Connect To Microsoft Access Database Using "Microsoft DAO 3.6 Object Library"?
May 3, 2012I have vb .net windows form application that I want to connect to Microsoft access database using "Microsoft DAO 3.6 object library". My problem is that when I go to Project tab -> Add reference -> COM tab, there should have been "Microsoft DAO 3.6 Object Library" on the list, but for some reason It's not on the list. Then I googled, and found out that the location of "DAO360.DLL" is "Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedDAO". After clicking on Browse tab, I browsed to that location, and I guess I added reference on another way.This is the code that I used before for connecting to Access, but for some reason It doesn't work this way on this PC.

Back in VB 6 I would have done this with a module, but now I have been told that a Public Class is the correct way in .NET. How should I go about doing this?

May 9, 2010I am currently working on a project witch contains lots of functions and properties. These functions and properties are stored in the dll. If I reference to this from within my project, these functions and properties are all in the same namespace or class. (I don;t know how it is called)Example:If I type the root namespace: Functions. I get all the functions. I would like to organize them in:
Functions.Maths (All the functions involving maths)
Functions.Internet (All the functions involving the internet)
Functions.Language (All the functions involving languages)
I tried using classes but I cant access the properties when they are stored in a class. I don't know why.
Are Using Microsoft Enterprise Library?
Jun 13, 2009In my shop we currently develop what I would consider small to medium sized projects.We have been investigating the Enterprise Library and how it may be able to help us in development.I have particularly been looking at the Logging block and comparing it with Log4Net.It seems to me that the Enterprise Library blocks would be an extremely over-engineered solution for something like simple application logging.That being said. Are you using the Enterprise Library and on what size projects? What are your thoughts on the Enterprise Library as a whole?

Jul 12, 2009making a general functions class library that will be used in several applications and asp pages, sometimes running at the same time.I've looked at a lot of samples on the web and they all show you to create an instance of the classlibrary namespace or the classlibrary class.
IE.
dim obj2 as new mycompany.mynamespace.myclass
dim n2 as integer
n2 = obj2.somefunction(...)
What I did was create my class library and put a class in it and declared a function as sharred, then created my dll.I don't have to create an instance of it and I can use it like the net framework by just coding
n2 = mycompany.mynamespace.myclass.somefunction(...).
The net framework does this, I mean once I imports it I don't have to make an instance of it in every function.All the samples I've seen about class libraries do not use the shared keyword.

Aug 11, 2010My company is currently in the process of upgrading from Office 2000 to Office 2010. The upgrade won't take place until October, but I am currently testing it on my PC. I have some applications that reference Microsoft Excel 14.0 Object Library VERSION 1.3.0.0 and export DataGridView results to Excel. Since I upgraded my PC to Office 2010, my version of Microsoft Excel 14.0 Object Library was upgraded to 1.7.0.0. Now, Office 2000 users are having issues when trying to export data. They get the following error:"Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt."I can't debug to find out the issue because I am running Office 2010 and it works perfectly fine for me. Has anyone else encountered this? I think it's happening right around when it starts to save the file.[code]

Mar 11, 2012Okay normally this was easy to do, but now with IE9 Visual Studio 2010 hangs and crashes. The problem seems to be even worse because you can't build an Interop.mshtml.dll to match version 9. I've tried using the VS command prompt with no luck. Here the connection reference is created before the TRY clause and is initialised after the TRY clause. I believe the connection is always closed and dereferenced even if an exception is thrown. Is this good practice? I see a lot of code that creates references and dereferences in the TRY clause, but this would mean that the memory is not correctly handled if an exception is thrown. Some developers say they don't like to clean up in the finally clause.

Sep 2, 2010I am having problem with Visual Studio 2008.... When i add the Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects 2.5 Library from COM References, and just run the blank form, it runs perfectly.... But whenever i declare anything related to ADODB like dim con as new ADODB.Connection, then after that it gives me error and doesnt run the project. A first chance exception of type 'System.IO.FileNotFoundException' occurred in mscorlib.dll. After that if i comment that like (declaration), then error goes........ I tried uninstalling each and every component and VS as well but the error doesnt goes....i am using Windows 7 x64. The same is working in Windows XP x86 in my virtual machine..... as i am not able to start my project

Jun 2, 2011I am making a program for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, and When you are in Multiplayer in most games there is a Chat room, or Chat Box. Do you think that there is any way I can reach maybe an API or possibly monitor the Screen so If someone types !Help in the chat box my bot would Respond like "Software by (whoever) other commands" stuff like that. But I cant seem to find any info about API's in the Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK about Multiplayer Chatbox or any multiplayer functions in that matter.

Oct 6, 2009I'm trying to upgrade a VB6 app to VB 2008. I have read the article in the tutors corner about automating Excel from VB but I cannot get it to work. Heres what I have done:
1) set a reference to the Microsoft Excel 12.0 Object Library
2) Added "Imports Excel = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel" to the top of the module
3) in a routine I have added: Dim X As New Excel.Application Here's where I get an error: Error 75 'Application' is ambiguous in the namespace 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel'.
