Categorizing Functions And Properties In A Function Library?

May 9, 2010

I am currently working on a project witch contains lots of functions and properties. These functions and properties are stored in the dll. If I reference to this from within my project, these functions and properties are all in the same namespace or class. (I don;t know how it is called)Example:If I type the root namespace: Functions. I get all the functions. I would like to organize them in:

Functions.Maths (All the functions involving maths)
Functions.Internet (All the functions involving the internet)
Functions.Language (All the functions involving languages)

I tried using classes but I cant access the properties when they are stored in a class. I don't know why.

Library Of Functions In A Shared Class?

Feb 11, 2009

I have large group of functions that I would like to store in basically a library and simply call the functions from the controls on my forms. Back in VB 6 I would have done this with a module, but now I have been told that a Public Class is the correct way in .NET. How should I go about doing this?

Making A General Functions Class Library That Will Be Used In Several Applications And Asp Pages?

Jul 12, 2009

making a general functions class library that will be used in several applications and asp pages, sometimes running at the same time.I've looked at a lot of samples on the web and they all show you to create an instance of the classlibrary namespace or the classlibrary class.

IE.
dim obj2 as new mycompany.mynamespace.myclass
dim n2 as integer
n2 = obj2.somefunction(...)

What I did was create my class library and put a class in it and declared a function as sharred, then created my dll.I don't have to create an instance of it and I can use it like the net framework by just coding

n2 = mycompany.mynamespace.myclass.somefunction(...).

The net framework does this, I mean once I imports it I don't have to make an instance of it in every function.All the samples I've seen about class libraries do not use the shared keyword.

C# - Performance Of Static Properties/functions?

Apr 5, 2011

is there a difference in performance when making properties static/shared that were instance properties before, maybe any locking mechanisms?There is a heavily used object in HttpCache which was accessible through a property in a page-instance(Service.aspx). Now i wonder if it would be better to make it static because the HttpCache is shared across the application anyway.

Visual Studio 2008 - ReadOnly Properties/Functions In .Net?

Sep 28, 2010

I'm working on rewriting something in VB that was previously in C# and while I was doing so, I came across a "dilemna." I can have a ReadOnly Property:

Public ReadOnly Property MaximumIndenture()
Get
Try
'If the connection is closed, open it.'

[code]....

They both essentially do the same thing, but I'm not sure which would be more accepted in the community.

Can't Access Class Library Methods / Properties When Referenced As A DLL

Oct 15, 2009

I've created a class library and built a dll (release build). I've then referenced the DLL in another project (I've tried several). I can see the namespace and classes in Object Browser and I can declare instances of the classes but I cannot use or see any of the methods or properties! there is no IntelliSense whatsoever and calling the methods manualy results in a 'Declaration expected' error.

Within the class library solution I have a unit test project referencing the class library project which works all works fine (and all the tests pass).

Can anyone provide any pointers to what might be going wrong here? I've built plenty of dlls in the past and have had no trouble referencing them at all.[code]...

Hide Methods/properties Of Class-library (dll) From Visual Studio's IntelliSense?

Mar 3, 2009

I am writing my first class-library in VB.NET. My idea is to distribute this library so others may use it in their applications.However, perhaps due to my lack of experience in writing and structuring the library and the classes therein, I noted that the methods/properties are ALL being shown in the IntelliSense of Visual Studio.

The thing is that many of them are only used within the library itself and should NOT be used by the developers (could create a disaster) when they incorporate my library in their application - only a few should be visibile i.e. the ones which are needed by the developer.Thus, my question is: is there a way to hide certain methods/properties of my library from Visual Studio's IntelliSense? Maybe something similar to REM?

EDIT: as mentioned - this is my first library and I now understand that my question could be intepreted in two ways:

1) how to hide something from IntelliSense

2) how to prevent a developer from using and calling certain methods/properties

Of course, the end-result that I want is that the developer is not able to access AT ALL certain methods/properties i.e. No. 2 above.

Create An Object Of A Class In Which There Are Properties And Functions That Do Database Selects, Updates And Deletes?

Oct 22, 2010

how to implement UI, BL and DAL in a project the way that I see it as a requirement for some projects. The way I am able to do a project now is from a form create an object of a class in which there are properties and functions that do database selects, updates and deletes. Looks to me that doing a project like that is separating the UI from the DAL. In an update button click event I may call Obj. Delete (txtCustID.txt) for example. I don't understand the part of further breaking it down to include a Business layer; in which a vb solution is made up of three solutions.What goes in the BL?Does the BL call the DAL?

Add Description To Functions And Function Parameters?

Apr 19, 2011

I'm writing a VB.NET function with a ton of overloads. I've seen that most .NET functions have parameter descriptions in IntelliSense. For example, when typing in String.Compare(, IntelliSense says Compares two specified System.String objects and returns... you get the idea. This description changes and you click through different overloaded versions of the same functions. When you start typing in something for a parameter, it describes the parameter you're currently inputting as well. Example: strA: The first string to compare..

DB/Reporting :: How To Setup A 'Library' Function

Dec 23, 2008

I'm working on a Free, Open Source Multimedia player. I'm hoping if I do it right, I can have it beat out WMP and iTunes. As this is the case, I'm trying to program the whole thing without connecting to either WMP or iTunes through COM or ActiveX, and not use any of the .dlls.One of my current problems is that I can't seem to figure out how to setup a "Library" function. What I'm thinking right now is I want to setup a database, and then connect to it. I was able to create a Local Database, and setup my Table and Fields, but I don't know how to connect to the database; I figured out how to create a new instance of the table, but those get deleted as soon as the program is closed.If anyone has a suggestion on how to do this, or a tutorial they can point me to, that would be fantastic. My only stipulation I have is I'd like to be able to use SQL searches on the database, to make searching for song faster.

.net - Function That Takes Other Functions As A Parameter And Executes Them

Is there a way in vb.net to create a sub/function that will take as an argument some kind of pointer to another function, and allow this new sub/function to execute the passed function? What I have are 10-12 xml-rpc functions I am calling against a remote server. Each of these functions has different argument lists (one takes 1 string, another might take 3 strings and one int, etc). I know it has something to do with the fact that the first function is shared and the second function should probably be Public as well but I don't fully understand the reason behind it. Probably not relevant but I'm calling the web method from some javascript.

Mysql Functions - SELECT Statement And Make A Function ?

Jul 12, 2010

I am trying to clean up my code a bit.

I made the following function:

Public Sub sqlUpdate(ByVal table As String, ByVal column As String, ByVal var1 As String, ByVal column1 As String, ByVal var2 As String)
Public CN As New MySqlConnection
Public cmd As New MySqlCommand

[CODE]...

Which is fine, if I want to use mysql update all I have to do is call something like: sqlUpdate("test", "test", 0, "test", test) I was wondering if I could do the same with the SELECT statement and make a function. I cant think of a way to do it though...

sqlConnect()
Dim cmd As New MySqlCommand
With cmd
.CommandText = "SELECT * FROM users WHERE username=""" & lblAccountName.Text & """"

[CODE]...

The data I would want to extract would be different every time.
