I have written a small VB.net program to connect remote server and read the status of system Services(IISADMIN), here i am able to connect remote system, but while reading below error popup coming...
I have a VB2008 application which can control a windows service i.e. start, stop, pause etc. This runs ok on a Windows XP machine but not on a Win 7 machine (message is - Service error cannot open <service name> service on computer '.') ( if I stop the UAC then it runs ok ). It seems to be a rights issue,
I've looked through several posts to find potential solutions to this problem, however I don't find them very suitable for my needs. Some included the user to run the application as Administrator However, even as I start VS2010 as administrator, starting or stopping my service continues to throw the exception.
I have a project in which we would like to do the following :Install a service that perform several tasks. this would be put on Computer A and B.Another computer C serves as a witness; At start, only A is running because the work it performs cannot be duplicated;Should A fail, then B must start. C should be the one that verify is one is running or not;Sholud A return back up after a fail, then B still runs and A is on stand-by;Should B then fail, C start A services,And So On.Is it possible, if so how ? Both A and B have a SQL server 2008 on them but this part is taken care of for us.I tried stopping a service (that I know is running) and it dosn't seem to work.[code]In this case, strServiceName is "Communication Interface" which is a service I recently add and started manually.I am running under windows 7.
I'm using asmx web service to lock a folder on remote computer! When I run web service on local machine everything working fine, but when I run it on remote computer nothing happen, folder on remote computer stay unlock! I supose that I need to set security permission for this web service on remote computer, but i don't know where! So, what I need to enable executing this service on remote computer?
i'm trying to copy a file from my computer to another comp. i'm using windows xp, and the other comp is using a win xp embeded. on the other machine i run a web service which has a function that gets the file's url and tries to download it. i'm trying to use a shared directory from my computer, and i'm getting an access denied error. When i try to cennect directly from the other machine (using run...), all works fine, even with a test program.
I am using this code to try to connect to a computer/server from my desk top. but keep getting errors The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)
Dim options As ConnectionOptions options = New ConnectionOptions()
I am writing a Windows Service that will shut the machines down in my domain at 6:00 PM every night. I just want to do an If/Then statement to see if someone is logged into the machine before I shut them down. For example: If Machine_Is_Logged_In = True Then
Do Nothing Else Shut Down The Machine I've been searching for the syntax but can't find it. I've tried both "isauthenticated" and "my.user.name = "" " but nether of these work.
All, I have a Custom object which I have written using VB.NET (.net 2.0). The object instantiates its own threading.timer object and carries out a number of background process including periodic interrogation of an oracle database and delivery of emails via smtp according to data detected in the database. The following is the code implemented in the windows service class [Code].
After a little bit of experimentation I arrived at the above code in the OnStart method. All functionality passed testing when deployed from VS2005 on my development PC, however when deployed on a true target machine, the service would not start and responds with the following message: "The service on local computer started and then stopped..." Am I going about this the correct way? If not how can I best implement my incident manager within the confines of the Windows Service class. It seems pointless to implement a timer for the incident-manager because this already implements its own timer.
I want to know how to open My Computer, My Document, Recycle Bin and the Start Bar in vb.net? I mean a user has to click on a button and all of these must be opened. Its a prank I'm doing.
They are all working on my computer, but they are not working on any other computer(I tested it on about 10 computers). They are working when i start making it,but after they are not working. When i try to run it on other computer it is not opening(there is not any error message), or there is a crash report(application crashes). So they are working on beginning of programming, and after they aren't.
I am making a VB .NET application using Visual Studio 2010. I want to know how to open/close ports of the computer. The application will be running in Windows XP only.Actually the thing I want is to close all ports but 80 but also have the ability to open a few more if I need them. Any ideas?
I've copied a project from one computer to another and while I can open the project and its one module, when I try to open any of the forms, I get this error:
Quote: There is no editor available for 'C:UsersDaBoyesDesktopWattsDBForm6.vb'.
Make sure the application for the file type (.vb) is installed. I can open the forms just fine on their own--I just can't open them from within the project.
I have a program that needs to access the files that are open by another program on the computer. When my application comes up I can easily see if the other application is running with the .net Process.GetProcessesByName method
Dim MyProcesses() as Process = GetProcessesByName("AnApplication") For Each Instance as Process in MyProcesses If MsgBox("application is running - do you want to end it?", MsgBoxStyle.YesNo or MsgBoxStyle.Question, "Warning") = MsgBoxResult.Yes then
[code].....
The problem is that the Instance.Kill does not allow the application to end gracefully. In VB6 you could use the SendMessage API to send a close message to the application and it would end gracefully - i.e. give the user the normal closing prompt. This just slays the application - leaving any open files in their potentially incomplete state, etc.
is it possible to have the open programs on my computer viewed in a list, and have the abbily to minimize and restore if so, what are the codes for it and what do i have to attach it ro (butten etc) it is for my OS i am making.
I tried to make a winsock program. But when i run, i have a SocketException "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refuse it."Any suggestions on what i should do? Im using 17477 port.By the way Im using my own computer to test it. So i have no idea why.How should I open this specific port in my own computer?
Is it possible that I could include it to could into my program so that i don't need to open the ports of each computer? Below is my code.
I have a simple executor that when clicked, opens the CD tray.[code]On my computer it works fine but on another computer, it only opens the CD tray if there is no disk in it.[code]
I'm trying to open a project we did in class the other day at home.
When I try to open the project in VB, I get an error that's not terribly helpful. It basically says the project cannot be opened because its project type () is not supported by this application.
I believe that the information I need should be contained within the paren which is blank in my error message. I've looked up the error message and all the examples I've seen contain some information there.
The project was done using VS 2008 in VB in the classroom. That's exactly what I have at home. The only thing that I can think of is that something is missing from my version of VS2008 at home. The reason why I believe this is because when we needed to use SQL, it was already installed at school whereas I needed to go out and download then install it at home. So I assume my install at home is somehow incomplete. I've thought about uninstalling everything at home and re-downloading it and selecting all of the "add-ons" when I do it. This could be a total waste of time though since I don't really know what's going on.
I just thought I'd ask around before going through that.
EDIT: I downloaded VS 2008 Pro from dreamspark. Everything seems to be working.
I have a project I built in VB 2010 Express Edition. I copied the project's folder to a flash drive, pasted it into the visual studio 2010 projects folder on a different computer, and opened it with VB 2010 Express Edition on that computer. I can view the code, but when I try to open the design view, I get the following error:
I am creating a Windows Service using Vb.Net. In that i want to open the word document.Using the following code i start the process WINWORDcreateProcessAsUser(token, "c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 12\WINWORD.EXE", Nothing, saProcess, saThread, True, CREATE_UNICODE_ENVIRONMENT, envBlock, Nothing, si, pi)This process runs under my UserName, but it is not visible. Now i want to open a word document from "c:MyFile.doc", That document has to be opened under the same instance that is already created through 'createProcessAsUser'. I want the document to be visible. My environment : Xp, VS 2008, Office 2007?
i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:
Warning: Type library exporter encountered a type that derives from a generic class and is not marked as [ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)]. Class interfaces cannot be exposed for such types. Consider marking the type with [ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)] and exposing an explicit interface as the default interface to COM using the ComDefaultInterface attribute.
It does not work. I have tried to call it through a class library but this does not work either as the end point is not set correctly.
The program i made is an IP Finder. it uses MS WinSock, so i thought that would be the problem. I have already installed the powerpack and i got another program i made working
i have a task to create a TCP Server (a program that is listening on its network card interfaces for incoming data stream).I have search on the internet and i found that i can use two methods : Socket or TCPListener class.I have created an example for Socket class, but i wondering how could i test it? I need to check that if another computer in the network send some string data to the listener computer , then this message should be displayed. Here is the example from microsoft that i am using for TCP Server using Socket:
Public Shared Sub Main() ' Data buffer for incoming data. Dim data = nothingc[code]....
But it does not work because of the PORT setting. If in the TCP Server i have "Dim localEndPoint As New IPEndPoint(ipAddress, 0)" the client crashes, but if i change the port from any (0) to 11000 for example, the client works fine.Do you know why?
Later edit2:Maybe i should have started with this question:Which method is recommended for my scope?asynchronous or synchronous method ?
I am developing a computer application designed to monitor the network and CPU statistics on a computer remotely. The monitored computer would have my program installed and the monitoring computer would display, in a form, the information being sent from the remote client. The application does not send any information regarding packets, user names, passwords, etc. It is solely meant for monitoring CPU performance and Network resources remotely.
What would be the best method to send this information over to my host machine?I am programing in Visual Studio 2008 on windows XP. The client machine is also XP. I know this sounds a little shady, but it is required for my little business (http://www.iquorum.net) to monitor what and when something happens on our machines when I and my employees are away.
