Change Style Of Individual Cells In A Datagridview Row?
Mar 27, 2009
Is it possible to give individual cells in a data grid view row different styles such as backcolor, fontcolor etc?
I do not mean giving the whole row a new style, only a specific cell.

I am developing an application in vb.net 2008 express edition that displays utility meter information. In one column of datagridview it shows the meter type in numeric code. When the user hovers over the the individual cells in meter type column i want to be able to show more descriptive info on what that numeric code actually means.
As an example the cell in datagridview will show 1254 the actual description for this numeric code is "Landis Gyr Focus AX SD 2S 7.2Kh"
Below is my code so far, every other aspect of application is working except for above.
Public Class Form3
Private Sub dgv1_CellMouseEnter(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellEventArgs) Handles dgv1.CellMouseEnter

I want the user only to be able to select rows and not individual cells in a VB.NET DataGridView. Is there a way to make this happen? I don't see an option for the DataGridView object to control this via properties.

I need a few columns in my datagridview to have the font be aligned to the right, but no matter what code I use it doesnt work.
I would also like my columns with numbers to always have 2 decimals.
And lastly I would like the right side of the column header to be blank and not movable. I can do this by adding another column to my table with a blank name and then set the width to fill, but the problem is I can just move this around, which is not good, I want to freeze it so it looks good. I do want to be able to move around on the other columns, just not this one. Unless there is another way to do that?

I am trying to create a form that will update a database of school tests with checkboxs.Basically, i have a textbox for a student id, a combobox with the subjects in it, and a datagridview with the tests of the selected subject.(There are about ten subects with about ten tests each).What i want to happen is when you put in an id number, it should bring up all the tests the student passed in each subject in the datagridview. So when you select a subject it will load the datagridview with the tests (in a checkbox format) (with the tests he already passed checked) so you can click and add tests and then save it to the db.

I have a Windows Form that contains a DataGridView. The DataGridView ReadOnly property is set to TRUE. The DataGridView as 3 columns. I would like to make the cells edible (ReadOnly=False) when the RowHeader is clicked. I thought that the following code would do it, but when I click on a RowHeader and then click in one of the cells in that row, the cell is still ReadOnly.
Private Sub dgvData_RowHeaderMouseClick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellMouseEventArgs) Handles dgvData.RowHeaderMouseClick

I was looking for some code that would change the colors of some rows in my datagridview but I could not get that to work. I have this code which should work but it doesn't, I could not find any replacements. I need to change the color of some rows.
Do While cnt > -1 If datagridorder.Rows(cnt).Cells.Item("DataGridViewTextBoxColumn16").Value.ToString.Substring(datagridorder.Rows(cnt).Cells.Item("DataGridViewTextBoxColumn16").Value.ToString.Length - 5, 5) = "Cease" Then
datagridorder.Rows(cnt).DefaultCellStyle.BackColor = Color.Red
End If
cnt -= 1

I have a mature VB6 program that depends heavily on flexgrids for the display.It appears that DataGrids are somewhat of a replacement for flexgrid?I need to update individual cells over and over and I don't see how to address a single cell. Appears to me that most samples are tied to a database which I don't have.If I set up a datagrid that is say 3x3, how do I read and write from and to say the center cell?

How to programmatically change foreground color and make bold text in individual cell location on DataGridView control (Visual Basic)?
I use "dgMatrix.Rows(r).Cells(c).Value = x" to assign individual numeric values to individual cells in a DataGridView control. My question; is there a similar way to change foreground color and make bold the text in this cell, by specifying the individual row/column cell location?
For example; for cell (row 3, col 5) in the DataGridView make text in cell say red and bold or blue and bold so as to highlight and distinguish individual cell contents. As needed, I will also need to reset these properties (foreground back to automatic/black and font from bold back to regular); the reset could be done globally to the whole DataGridView as opposed to indiviaually by cell.

I am having trouble with automatically filling a table in word from a asp.net app - i use bookmarks in the next top row to determine what data should be inserted into the columns of my tables. However, i am having trouble in getting the individual cells bookmarks and get all the bookmarks from the row instead. This is fine if i have one bookmark in each column as i can use the 3rd bookark and assume that is from the 3rd column, but if i were to have 2 bookmarks in one column, how would i know which column it was that contained the 2 bookmarks?Here is my code that returns all bookmarks for the row even though i am selecting a single cell; and therefore using bookmarks(1) - always the same bookmark(the one in the leftmost

I have a DataGridView (not data bound, not editable) that displays a bunch of data. I want to draw rectangles around some of the blocks of cells to set them apart visually. For example, I want to draw a red border around the block of cells from row 3 colum 2 to row 6 column 3 so that there is a red rectangle around the 8 cells.I've found how to paint rectangles around individual cells or rows, but I can't work out how to do it for a block of cells.

I am creating an application and am very new to VB. I have 4 buttons on my form which is like my applications main menu. I would like that each of the buttons behaves in the following way when there is a mouse rollover: The Button back color is changed from the default to Red The Button text is changed to Blue, Bold, and increases in font size I would also like all the buttons to go back to their initial state when the mouse leaves.
Another thing, instead of me writing code for each of the buttons event handlers (Mouse Hovers, and Mouse Leaves) is there a way I can write this code once, maybe as a function and then always call it for any button that I create from here on so that any new buttons take on this behaviour.

I am throwing some data out into Excel and am having some formatting troubles. I have 5 columns (date, time, a long number I don't want displayed in scientific notation - text is fine, text, text). I can get it all working with numberformat, however I have to do them different ways.
Date works this way cell.numberformat = "m/d/yy" and it formats it to say 3/1/11
Time works this way cell.numberformat = "h:mm AM/PM" and it formats it to say 8:07 AM
For the long number cell.numberformat = "@" and it doesn't change the format and it gets displayed in scientific notation
BUT if I use cell.style.numberformat = "@" it works as it should, but it messes up all of the date and time cells. Apparently when you use style.numberformat, it doesn't just apply to the cell you're working with. If I try using style.numberformat with the date and time formats, they don't change and are entered as if I didn't change the format at all.

imagine an array of data containing a gray scale image and you want the bar chart (say 20x20) to display a section of that image as both the magnitude of the data and its shade of gray. if you were to look vertically down on the 3D barGraph you should see the section of the image. Is this at all possible? The projetc relates to clutter intensity in a radar image if this interests you.

I have a combo box which will store a list of RGB values generated when the user makes a custom color in the color dialog. The values are stored in the combo box in RRR, GGG, BBB format. I have this working. The code for this is as follows:
dlgChooser.ShowDialog()
Dim colorR As String = dlgChooser.Color.R.ToString()
Dim colorG As String = dlgChooser.Color.G.ToString()
Dim colorB As String = dlgChooser.Color.B.ToString()
lblTitle.ForeColor = dlgChooser.Color()
cmbRecent.Items.Insert(0, colorR & ", " & colorG & ", " & colorB)
cmbRecent.SelectedIndex = 0
The next part is to change each recent color's background color to match whatever color the values represent (so that it's easier to pick from the colors). How do I assign a background color to each item listed in the combo box?

I have a combobox called cbMaterialType on a windows form that's bound to a table in SQL - everything loads great and the combobox displays 'Material' items as it should, in that table I have two fields - Material (as mentioned above) which is a char(25) and InStock which is an nchar(1). If the InStock field contains a '1', I'd like the individual material to be green in the combobox, if '0', then red. I have the simple code in the drawitem event of the combobox as follows, but can't seem to get any results at all:
Private Sub cbMaterialType_DrawItem(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DrawItemEventArgs) Handles cbMaterialType.DrawItem
If MaterialTableAdapter1.GetData.Item(cbMaterialType.SelectedIndex).InStock = 1 Then
cbMaterialType.ForeColor = System.Drawing.Color.Green
Else
cbMaterialType.ForeColor = System.Drawing.Color.Red
End If
End Sub
I've never worked with any form of color in comboboxes before and this is my first attempt at the drawitem event.
