I want the user only to be able to select rows and not individual cells in a VB.NET DataGridView. Is there a way to make this happen? I don't see an option for the DataGridView object to control this via properties.
View 2 RepliesI have a DataGridView (not data bound, not editable) that displays a bunch of data. I want to draw rectangles around some of the blocks of cells to set them apart visually. For example, I want to draw a red border around the block of cells from row 3 colum 2 to row 6 column 3 so that there is a red rectangle around the 8 cells.I've found how to paint rectangles around individual cells or rows, but I can't work out how to do it for a block of cells.
View 10 RepliesI am developing an application in vb.net 2008 express edition that displays utility meter information. In one column of datagridview it shows the meter type in numeric code. When the user hovers over the the individual cells in meter type column i want to be able to show more descriptive info on what that numeric code actually means.
As an example the cell in datagridview will show 1254 the actual description for this numeric code is "Landis Gyr Focus AX SD 2S 7.2Kh"

Is it possible to give individual cells in a data grid view row different styles such as backcolor, fontcolor etc?
I do not mean giving the whole row a new style, only a specific cell.
I would like to copy only the selected rows, but not all cells, only the ones I set in the sub, from one datagridview to another datagridview.

I have a DataGridView with SelectionMode = "CellSelect". I do this because I want the user to be able to click the Column Header and drag the column to a different DisplayIndex. They move the column by clicking and holding down the left mouse button, then moving the column. I also want the user to be able to click the column header and all the cells in the column would be selected. However, i am having trouble in getting the individual cells bookmarks and get all the bookmarks from the row instead. Is it possible to add a button column to a datagridview and then remove a select group of these from rows without removing the rows themselves? That is, I want the ability to hide or remove these buttons in certain rows after certain actions have occured. I realized that I could simply delete the rows with these buttons, but I want to keep the data in these rows visible without the user thinking they have to use the buttons. I am assuming that I can also disable the buton in the desired rows as well.

I have added an unbound checkbox column to my DGV. I have two questions on handling it:
1. How to have a checkbox on this Column header, which on checking must check all the rows in the DGV and vice versa?
2. How do i get the Boolean value of the checked rows in DGV on event handling? In other words, how do i know what rows are selected?
VB6 had a feature for it's datagrid where the user could use the mouse to drag the row divider in a datagrid and when the user released the mouse button, all the rows in the datagrid would resize to match the one the user resized (Excel does the same thing if you have all rows highlighted).

I am attempting to create an application in an attempt so it could be run as the user and preserve individual settings, by this what i am trying to achieve is when the application is installed, it is installed once but each user has their own settings saved within their own profile - a bit like Office applications. How could i start with this?
View 8 RepliesI'm working on a project and my boss insists I use a DataGrid for this. The grid holds information for work orders, one of the cols has a check box in it. I need the user to be able to select any number of those checkboxes/rows and then return a value to the table "stamping" that users ID. This is what I have so far to get the grids populated... I'm using 2005 with a 2000 Access Database if that helps. Though this will be changed to SQL Server once we get it working (yay more work)...

I removed the code from the second grid to make it easier to read, obviously once I can get one to work the second shouldn't be as much trouble.
This is the check box: dgvNewBiz.Columns(1).HeaderText = "Select"At this point if someone knows how to get it to recognize the click event of the check box and pass that row info to a variable that would be super as I'm sure I could probably figure it out from there.

If i dont delete the successful rows then i will have multiple inserts of the same dataRow and we dont want that! AND if i dont move the data up then it will have blank rows uptop and will end the try and not insert the corrected data.
