This assignment works for me TryCast(Me.NamingContainer, LDHello).ToggleChartConfigurationSections = AddressOf LD_SayHello whereas Dim objLDHello As LDHello = TryCast(Me.NamingContainer, LDHello) AddHandler objLDHello.LoveAndLoveOnly, AddressOf LDSayHello fails with an error message like LoveAndLoveOnly is not an event of Universal.LDHello. Visual Studio intellisense is able to pickup the event whereas the background vbc and build compiler are failing. When I need to stack multiple subscribers to the event I need to use AddHandler right?
View 6 RepliesI am replacing an AutoHotkey script with a VB.net application. Part of the script involves sending keystrokes to an active application. VB uses SendInput and does send the keystrokes, but the application doesn't "get" them, but when AutoHotkey sends the same key to the same application, it works. I have verified that VB is indeed sending the keys properly. Does anyone know how to imitate the autohotkey Send function?
View 7 RepliesI find this behavior of TryCast in .NET 4.0 / VS 2010 rather confusing. In my understanding TryCast works like DirectCast, but will return Nothing instead of throwing an exception if a cast is not possible. VS 2010 / .NET 4

View 1 RepliesI datagridview and I populate it using a bindingsource. I have the following code in the bindingsources PositionChanged event and it works as I want it to except when I filter the bindingsource.
Private Sub ProductBindingSource_PositionChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ProductBindingSource.PositionChanged
If (Me.ProductBindingSource.Current IsNot Nothing) Then
Dim dr As DataRow = CType(Me.ProductBindingSource.Current, DataRowView).Row
Dim ProductId As Long = CLng(dr.Item(2).ToString)
Dim ResultId As Integer = CInt(dr.Item(0).ToString)
GetReport2(ProductId, ResultId)
End If
End Sub
The scenario is when I click on a row in my datagridview the bindingsources positionchanged event fires and I load a crystal report. Problem is when I filter the bindingsource, even though the first item in the grid is now different the incorrect report is displayed because the bindingsources position hasn't changed.
I have a simple unit test which tests that a validation function picks up a specific validation issue. The validation item returns a simple object with Item & Message properties. I've written a unit test for this function but this always fails even though I know the function works as expected.
<TestMethod()> Public Sub ContractNote_ValidateForManualInputTest_TradeOrderValueComparison()
'Can't get this test to work even though validation works!
Dim CN As ContractNote = New ContractNote
Dim Trade As New TradeOrder
[code].....
I've implemented IComparable on ValidationItem (I have a separate unit test which confirms this works). Am I Using CollectionAssert correctly?

View 2 RepliesEnviro: 2007 Exchange Server, 2 Intranet servers (1 deploy, 1 dev) running .NET 2.0 app - all within same network / behind firewall. I am working on a legacy app by our previous web guy, when our sysadmin upgraded to exchange 2007 and put it on a new server all of the mail functions in old app broke. Had to upgrade to .NET 2.0 (from 1.x) and nothing worked untill I tried new SMTP code in a local function in the codebehind of a page of the app instead of calling a class, as follows:
Function SendNow(ByVal strFrom As String, ByVal strTo As String, ByVal strSubject As String, ByVal strBody As String) As Object
Dim msg As New MailMessage()
Dim smtp As SmtpClient
[code]....
So the above works fine, in that file. The problem is that the app was designed to call a class that resides on the dev server. When I move this same code into the class on the dev server I get transport errors. I think this has to do with the fact that we're using integrated authentication with impersonation=true and it seems to get dropped due to the class being on a different server (even though it's behind our firewall).
I could either try moving the classes to the production server or somehow keep the authentication in the class working through the hops. Either way I need to keep the class because it's referenced all over the place (in more than just this app). I am not that savvy in .NET and I cannot figure out where the setting is within the app that defines where the class is imported from. It just seems to be available no matter where the app is deployed. (Working files are on same server as classes, then publish the app to production server).
I am writing some code in VB.Net under .NET 2.0 which interfaces with MS Exchange 2003.Because of the Exchange 2003 "requirement" I am forced to write this code using WEBDAV.The code itself is replicating, to some degree,a schedule management process.It's creating Appointments on the Exchange Server in response to inputs from the user and managing it's data internally in a SQL Server database.The problem situation is this: A new person is assigned to be in charge of a meeting. The requirement says the program should generate a meeting cancellation request to the person removed from the meeting (if such a person existed) and a meeting request sent to the new person.In the case of there being an existing person, what appears to happen is this:
The meeting cancellation request
gets sent Exchange barfs and returns status code 500 (internal server error) during the set of requests which send the meeting request to the new person.However! While debugging this particular scenario, it works just fine for me, if I step through the code in the Visual Studio debugger. Left to it's own devices, it fails every time.Just for yuk's sake, I added a Thread.Sleep(500) to the part after sending the cancellation request, and Exchange doesn't barf anymore...
So, my question! If adding a Thread.Sleep to the code causes this error to go away, a race condition is implied, no? But, my code is running under a web application and is a totally single threaded process, from start to finish. The web requests I am sending are all in synchronous mode so this shouldn't be a problem. [code]....
...but a lot of the implementation details are hidden here, as I wrote a set of classes to interface with Exchange WebDAV.
I am trying to get my grid to refresh automatically when the underlying data is updated in the database. Isn't this supposed to work? Or am I missing something? I created a DataTable within my DataSet. Then I created a new form and added a DataGridView (actually I'm using DevExpress' XtraGrid but am trying to get it to work with just the Microsoft controls). I use the menu in the upper left of the grid to set the grid datasource to the datatable in the project data source. This then automatically adds the dataset, BindingSource, and TableAdapter to the form.

I have a UserControl that has a ProgressBar on it. The purpose of the UserControl is to be able to show the progress % on the ProgressBar as text. To do this it uses the MyBase.Paint event. To make it work the ProgressBar is made invisible and the UserControl is 'painted' with an image of the ProgressBar and then the text is painted on top. The UserControl has a Value property that is passed through to the ProgressBar.Value property.
I use this UserControl in two places, on a Splash form (not a standard Splash Screen) and also on the main form of the application. It works on the Splash form but not on the main form - by work I mean that changes to the ProgressBar.Value property cause the ProgressBar to show its progress. The cause appears to be that in the Splash form case the MyBase.Paint event is called as a consequence of calling Me.Refresh in the Set procedure of the UserControl.Value property, in the main form case it isn't,
i.e. Me.Refresh isn't causing MyBase.Paint to run.
The main form has two BackgroundWorker components. The first gets called (RunWorkerAsync) from Form_Load after the Splash form has been shown. The BackgroundWorker.ProgressChanged event updates the Value property of the UserControl and it works exactly as intended. The second gets called as a result of a user starting an operation and again the BackgroundWorker.ProgressChanged event updates the Value property of the UserControl but MyBase.Paint doesn't run so the ProgressBar remains resolutely static.
Any ideas why it won't respond to Me.Refresh in one case but does in the other? Happy to make any of the code avaialble but didn't want to fllod the first post with reams of it. Here's what I think are the most relevant code sections. First the UserControl

View 1 RepliesI'm trying to deploy a VB.NET app which is an extension to Excel using VSTO. It works fine in the development environment, but when someone else (without a dev environment installed, just the .NET framework) installs it, they get:
The common language runtime could not be loaded by <application>. Contact your administrator for further assistance.Google pops up the microsoft help page for this:

But I've verified that the .NET versions are the same on both machines. For VSTO apps in 2k5 there was a specific vsto runtime library users needed to install -- is there something similar for VS2008 that I haven't found yet?
I've got a gridview (ASP.net) inside of an update panel. I also have a "Save" button so that when I click "Save" it loops through all the rows of a grid view and passes the data to a stored procedure to update each row. This was too slow as sometimes I would be updating the database even though a change did not occur.
I decided to add a field in my gridview like so:
<asp:TemplateField>
<ItemTemplate>
<input type="hidden" id="hdnIsChanged" runat="server" />

View 1 RepliesI've created an SQL Query using the query builder. In the query builder, you can test the query by clicking the button "Execute Query", and entering the desired values in the parameter fields.
My query returns the correct results when I do this, but when I seemingly pass the same values at runtime, I get 0 records returned.The query is designed such that you can pass nulls if you don't wish to filter data by that particular parameter.
SQL Query:
SELECT ID, UPC, Quantity, Manufacturer, Style, Color, Size, Category, DateReceived, Cost, OriginalRetail, Retail, LocationID
FROM Inventory
WHERE (UPC = @UPC OR
[code]....
In the query builder "Execute Query" dialog, I enter a value I know that the db contains in the "Size" field, "1/1/1900" & "1/1/2199" in Dates A & B, respectively, and nulls for all other fields. This returns 1 record, which is just as I expected. It works correctly.But when I pass the same values into the method created by the designer, I get 0 records returned. I can't figure out where the problem lies. Even if I enter nulls for all fields other than the dates, it returns 0. This tells me that the dates are causing the problem, but I can't figure out why, because I'm passing strings equivalent to what I entered in the query builder.
I used to have a single DataGridView (DGV) on a form. I formatted and populated this, then used DGV.Show to make it appear on my form. This worked fine.I upgraded my form, to included 2 DGVs. Within a sub I dim a new DGV, populate and format it as before then set this equal to whichever DGV on the form it's meant to be. For example:
Dim pDGV as new DataGridView
with pDGV
.ColumnHeadersVisible = True

View 8 RepliesIm writing a app using vb.net, which has multiple front ends e.g a windows service and a windows forms app. Ive got all my business logic and database stuff compiled into 1 project (producing a dll) then the different front ends as different projects calling the dll.
In the backend / dll project Im connecting to 2 databases using app.config to store the connection strings and DataSets / TableAdapters. This all works fine .... Until
When I deploy the windows app, it deploys the exe and the dll produced by the backend project. when its installed on a client PC, Im need to point the app at a different db server and therefore need to change the connectionstring, but its packaged up in the dll.
is there any way I can use a settings file within my windows app (therefore deployed with my windows app) where I can define the connectionstring, which onload gets passsed through into my dll, so the backend connects the correct database. I know how to pass standard settings through (strings etc) but the my.settings.connectionstrings seem to be readonly.
So I wrote a VB.net project in Visual studio.I have a scheduled task that is set to run the program every morning at 10AM. If I use windows explorer and double click the application, it runs fine.If I open task scheduler, open the task properties, and browse to the application, then choose run, the program fails, due to Runtime exceptions.I know I have the path entered correctly, since I can debug the instance when it crashes from the task scheduler. VS2010 pulls up my source code.The exception is System.IO.FileNotFoundException, remember, it works fine when I double click the app. If attach a debugger to the process after it is executed from the task scheduler, I can then restart the debugger, and Voila!, The application runs fine.
View 1 Repliesi have a program i've made a while, and one of the users wants to be able to load his own images to the background instead of the plain grey that is there now. i've searched and searched, and basically can get this working
BackgroundImage = Image.FromFile("C:UsersMeFileName.png")
i just slapped that onto a button just to get it to work as i was experimenting. but that only works for a file of that name, on my computer, in that folder. what i'm looking to do is get it so a user can browse his own directories for images and upload them as the background on the form. and be able to save the settings as well. but so far i have only seen different ways to load preset images that you can load. if it's even possible? i'd assume that you'd use the openfiledialog command, but i'm not that well versed in vb as of yet.
I'm trying to change a forms title at runtime where it = my textbox's text. But I can't even get it to change to "test". When I try to google it, it comes up with vb6's
