Error To Check Remote Size Of RPT File

Nov 7, 2011

I have developed a system to update various programs. I put the programs updated into a particular folder of my site and Users can launch their update program to download and update their application.

The user interface has two progress bar, one for the single program in download and the second for the total download.

For calculating the total amount of bytes for the second progress bar I need to know the dimension in bytes of programs and files to be downloaded before start downloading. See the attached code.

For that I read, in remote mode, the size of all the files checked and I obtain the total amount of bytes.

All works fine with various type of files (.EXE - .DOC - .JPG - .TXT etc).

The problem arises with the Crystal Report file (.RPT).

The error 404 occurs but the file exists, the server WEB is active and the other files of the list are summed. If I compress the same file in .ZIP all works.[code]...

Create File With Certain File Size?

Jul 14, 2009

I want to create an application where a user can create a file which is a certain file size. e.g. Two textboxes, one for Name of file and one for file size. When submit button is pressed, a file is generated from the textbox information. Here is what I have got so far:

Imports System.IO
Module Module1
Sub Main()

[Code].....

However this code is only for text files. I want users to be able to specify a file extension. The file doesn't need to work, it just needs to have a certain file size and a certain name. e.g. I can use this application to create the file Song1.mp3 which is 4567kb. It won't play because it is not a valid mp3 file which is fine, it doesn't have to.

File I/O And Registry :: File Stream - Backup Program That Zips Files ?

Feb 9, 2009

I am writing a backup program that zips files. Using some sample code I have the following that creates a zip file. Problem is it does not get any subdirectories or files. Where am i going wrong?

Dim azFileNames() As String = Directory.GetFiles(SourceFolder)
Dim objCrc32 As New Crc32()
Dim zipStream As ZipOutputStream

[CODE]...

Alternativley, there is another component to the zipping dll that I could probably bypass the above altogether. It is: FZ.CreateZip(DestFile, SourceFolder, True, "", "") Where DestFile is (Output stream as system.io.stream). I'm trying to read all the files, directories, sub dir and files, etc from a specific location, let's say 'My Documents' into Destfile in which the FZ.CreateZip zips the file. FZ is FastZip which is from icsharpcode.net. They have c# examples, but that's greek to me. I'm trying to just learn VB!

VS 2010 IO - Check Location Of File And Create New

May 26, 2012

Is it possible to check a location for a file and if a file exists then create a new file (+1) in the file name? For example if there is no test file in the C:Temp folder then create a test.txt file and if there is one there then create C:Temp est1.txt and if there is a C:Temp est1.txt file then create C:Temp est2.txt and so on?

I was thinking
If Not IO.File.Exists("C:Temp est.txt") Then
IO.File.WriteAllLines("C:Temp est.txt" + 1, vbCrLf)
End If

Asp.net - Export To Excel File As .zip To Reduce File Size - Compress Xmldata Before Sending It To The Client?

Jul 8, 2010

I like to compress the xmldata before the data is provided to the client as an excel file. I am trying to compress and deliver it as a .zip file. its not working Here's my code below. I tried compressing it, converting it to bytes etc etc. The issue with below code is, the XSL transformation is not happening properly and the output excel file is raw xml with some .net exception at the end. (that's what I see on the .xls file that's downloaded at the end) Before I started working on compression my below code was working fine that gives properly formatted excel file from the xml input. the excel file is so nice you can't even tell it was from XML.

Text - Ensure That A File Has Unique Line If The Size Of The File Is Very Big

Apr 4, 2012

Language: vb.net
File size: 1GB, and stuff.

Encoding of the text file: UTF8 (so each character is represented by different numbers of bytes).

Collation: UnicodeCI (when several characters are essentially the same, the most popular version will be the one unique.). I think I know how to handle t his one.

Because each character is represented by different numbers of bytes and each line has different numbers of characters, the number of bytes in each line also vary.

I suppose we have to compute hash for each line. We also need to store buffers location where the line each. Then we have to compare buffers. Then we will check whether the same line shows up or not.

Create Log File To Track Progress And Populate Controls Via Text File Or XML File?

May 22, 2009

I am trying to create a log file which I am going to use to populate some controls (DataGridView or Treeview). I am trying to figure out if should use text files or XML files to do so. Effectively the log will highlight multiple phases in a client-side app. The log will be written to at various phases when the project is running. The user will always have the options move on to the next phase or save progress and exit the project. As such, I want the log file to highlight how far the user has progressed throught the various phases AND I want the log to highlight varous information from each phase. Whenever the user starts the project, they will be given the option to load existing log files. So the project will have to read these log files and append them where necessary as the user progresses.

I am not sure what the best way to do this is and below is a rudimentary approach using text files. As you can see, the top of the file would have a summary of all the phases and whether or not the user completed each phase. Next each phase would have a data section highlighting what data was stored along the way. I have used a ":" to denote each section. Then within each section I would obviously need to use a delimeter for all my data. So if Phase1 = True, then I would load all the pertinent data from "Phase1:" into the desired control. Can anyone provide an efficient way of doing this and provide some insight as to whether I should use XML instead. The phases my change during development and I am not sure yet which controls I will be using. Does XML provide more flexibility.

In summary I am looking to create, read/write and append log files and populate controls with the data in varous sections of the log file. Example:

Phase1 = True
Phase2 = True
Phase3 = False
Phase4 = False

VS 2010 Improve A Button So The User Can Make A Backup Of The *.mdb File?

Nov 14, 2011

I have my desktop app, bound to an access database. I want now to improve a button so the user can make a backup of the *.mdb file.So i used this

If FolderBrowserDialog1.ShowDialog = Windows.Forms.DialogResult.OK Then
If FolderBrowserDialog1.SelectedPath <> "" Then
FileCopy("BDGRACIA.mdb", FolderBrowserDialog1.SelectedPath & "/BDgracia.mdb")
End If
End If

It works fine when i try the app from within Visual Studio. But when i install it it wont find the database because it was installed elsewhere.Is there a way to control where the DB is installed and follow that route? Does this depend on the OS the app is installed? Or did I face the problem wrong and i should do something completely different with my button?
