VS 2010 IO - Check Location Of File And Create New

May 26, 2012

Is it possible to check a location for a file and if a file exists then create a new file (+1) in the file name? For example if there is no test file in the C:Temp folder then create a test.txt file and if there is one there then create C:Temp est1.txt and if there is a C:Temp est1.txt file then create C:Temp est2.txt and so on?

I was thinking
If Not IO.File.Exists("C:Temp est.txt") Then
IO.File.WriteAllLines("C:Temp est.txt" + 1, vbCrLf)
End If

Create A Single Location For One File To Be Shared Among Three Different Applications?

Apr 13, 2009

Using: Visual Studio 2005.We are developing three different applications. We currently have 4 different modules that we all share among our applications. When a change is made to one of the modules, we must make changes to the other two modules. If it is possible, how do you (where do you) create a single location for one file to be shared among three different applications? Hopefully this will avoid the unnecessay task of changing a file three times.

VS 2010 Check If File Is In Use

Mar 2, 2011

I'm making a program in which a couple of txt files will be used for reading and writing (streamreader/writer). Incidentally, these txt files might be in use by another program, although never more than 1 or 2 seconds each time.

Suppose, I have the following

Dim Input As New System.IO.StreamReader("c:data.txt")
Data = Input.ReadLine
...more code...

[Code].....

This doesn't work though. When I open c:data.txt in another process and run my VB application, I still get the IOException.

VS 2010 Check For File And Close If Not There?

Jul 7, 2010

Its been requested that my project has a way to limit number of users logged in at one time. I have that figured out but there is a problem. What I have done is that when a user logins in the application creates a .usr file in a directory on the network. If the number of users (value in the database) is less than the number of .usr files another user can log in, otherwise they can not(the file gets deleted at logout or application close). Now the problem is I need to create a way that if the .usr file get deleted the application will close. Is there a way to keep a watch on file and if it gets removed close the application.

VS 2010 Create A XML File Based On An XSD?

Mar 10, 2010

My requirement is to create a XML file based on an XSD. The source data for this file will be coming from a database. For the purposes of this test, I am trying to manually assign the values.

I followed these steps:

1) Used the XSD.exe to create a VB Class.

PHP
xsd /d /l:VB emprec.xsd /n:XSDSchema.EmpCollection

2) Added the VB Class in my project.

3) If I try to compile my code, I get an error.

Here's the code I wrote:

VB.NET
Private Sub cmdXML_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdXML.Click
Dim emp As New EMPLOYEE_COLLECTION

[Code].....

How do I resolve this? I am unable to add any code in the 'TODO section for this generated class.
