I have been working on a checker game. So far I have code that allows all the white checkers to move properly. The only problem is that this code is about 5000 lines long. I am sure there is a quicker and easier way to do it.
Here is the code for one checker to move in all squares possible for it to go into:
elect Case str1
Case 1
If picCheckers1.Location.X < 271 And picCheckers1.Location.Y > 114 And Open5 = True Then
picCheckers1.Location = square5
str1 = 5
Open1 = True
[Code] .....
The case is the square that the checker is currently in. I also will attach a zip file of the game so that you can understand it more. There are no errors and everything is working fine but I am trying to find a quicker way to code that doesn't take another 5000 lines of code

So here is my problem. I have a vb game with animated sprites and all, and the character even jumps. However it only works in the y direction. So if i'm moving, he stops in place and jumps, instead of jumping forward. I was wondering if someone knew how to make him move at the same speed forward during the jump.
I am making a variation of the board game Trivial Pursuit. I am having trouble moving my piece around the board. The board is a circle divided into 32 squares, that are coloured. I am wondering how to get the players pawn to move around the board if it is a circle. They have to move according the the number they role on the dice. I have the dice rolling and finding numbers, but its the moving i'm having trouble with
I am creating checkers in vb.net 2008. I am allowing the pieces to be moved through the click and drag event. I used this tutorial to help and it works great [URL].What i am wondering is the tutorial says that to add another object to be draggable you have to add the objectname.event to each of the events. does that mean create new event classes or just add the name to each class?
I'm trying to create a small game in VB2010. The gameplay is as follows:
civilians would walk/stand in a room/street and suddenly an evil character would pop from the ground/wall. This evil character would suddenly vanishes too. So, the player has to shoot it to kill the character. The evil character, civilians, etc. would be random. Also, there would be sound effects too. That is the popping up of the evil character, it's voice, the civilians voice, etc. I'm trying to make it as simple as possible but without degrading the quality of the game play. I think, I could somewhat create the graphics for the characters, scenes, etc. and can get the sound effects recorded.
So, the difficult part is,[ ] how could I make it a smoother for playing the game ? [ ] what would be the best way to do animations ? [ ] Creating a GIF and placing it in the picturebox and moving it ? [x]how to play the music in background and at the same time play sound effects on certain instance ?
[code]This colours the squares on the map, but I wish to have an outline between them so as to make it a grid. Also is there any way of getting a thicker border?
I'm retrieving data info from comments in a website. Everything is fine (I can show correctly the words with accents), but in most of the phrases it comes with a square: How can I remove it?
I have this programming assignment to have a text box list all the squares and cubes from 1 to {$value} however when i run my subroutine only {$value} is displayed here is my code:
Private Sub btnCalc_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles btnCalc.Click If txtNumber.Text = String.Empty Then MessageBox.Show("Enter a Number", "Can not Calcuate Squares and Cubes")
I don't do much .Net programming, but I do have one that I maintain, so the answer to this may be obvious.
Setup: Windows 7 Ultimate with All Language Packs Installed Visual Studio 2008 Winforms VB.Net project.
I'm in the process of localizing this project, and when I'm making the Japanese version of the forms, the characters display as squares, though they render in my browser correctly. I'm guessing that this is because the default font does not have a glyph for those characters.So, my questions:
Are winforms UTF-8, or some other character encoding?
Is there a way to change the character encoding?
Should I change the font for the Japanese forms, or will Windows do it?
What's the general best practice here?
I want to know that I am copying the characters correctly into my forms, and I want to be able to test them.How can I do this?
Arial Unicode MS does have all the glyphs, but I wasn't using it, because it wasn't in the VS2008 list of fonts. I manually edited the font box to use it, but then Visual Studio throws the message, "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory has been corrupted." I'm guessing that's because VS doesn't have permission to access that font for some reason. I go back to the default font, scary error message goes away.
Then, even when using Arial Unicode MS, the text renders as blocks in the forms titles.Same text renders correctly in labels.I think I want to use the default font, and let Windows handle it. I think I've read that everything from XP on will handle it. Windows 2000 won't, which is a shame, but what ever, I don't know what font I should use, and whatever font it is was excluded from VS.I don't know how to add it without getting lots of error messages about protected memory.Now the problem is, resizing the labels in the form, since the translated text is often larger.
Also, I don't have a support team to do this for me, but I could maybe install extra copies of Windows 7, and change to the Japanese language pack and try to run it.But that becomes a major pain.I thought I read that you could change the language while the application is running, but that doesn't seem to be true.MS docs talk about how to do this, but Windows 7 also tells you that you have to log out to change the language.MS Gothic seems to work, and it's part of VS 2008, but the title bar is still squares. That's really odd, since the same glyphs are in the winform.Is that because title bar fonts are set at a system level, and not the application level?
I wrote a vb.net program that can view the documents It uses a reader and decompresses the sql blob to an outputStream and displays the document after a Response.Flush.We sent the code and databases to another group to host this website themselves. They can run the website but when they view the documents the documents open with a page full of small squares.
I am making a CSS layout creator. You can create reziable/dragable sqares. And when you press a button it get the css code for it. How would i get the locations and size of each box? And then spit that all out in a rich text box?
I am making a game based on "Simon" where the computer creates a sequence and the user then has to then replicate it. To create and show the sequence I am generating random numbers between 1 and 4 then based on what numbers come out I change the image in a picture box to simulate coloured squares lighting up. The problem however that I think I am having is that the loop I made is executing too fast as all I see when I run the program is the last light in the sequence. For example is the sequence generated was 2341 all I see light up is square 1. I have stepped into the program and it goes through everything correctly so the only thing I can think of is that it runs too fast to see? [code]
Im creating a space invaders game that has a group of "invaders" moving side to side and when i shoot one it gets destroyed, my invaders are in an array. So in order for the invaders to keep moving right until they get to the edge, i made a function that detects which invader is right most. But this was crudly done as I wa trying to make the opposite of my left most function which works. So my rightmost function dosent work
im trying to make a game in visual basic in which your character can move around, jump, and kill things. I can get the picture box with the character to move and everything is fine. but i did run into one problem. when the character moves over a tree (or something) you can see the gray backround of the character as i made in paint. how do i make the backround of the picturebox transparent?
I want to make a program that enables a game to have more than one instance running, where it would otherwise be unable to be done. How should I go about this? A sandbox? Hack?
I am working on a poker game and I have the game setup the way I want it in terms of graphics and I have the code programed to deal the cards out exactly how I want them. Granted, the code is very simplistic, but functional for a new programmer like myself. I'm sure there are other more efficient ways to code my game, but I like mine so far because I can at least understand the majority of it. With that being said, here are a few problems and questions that I have.
1. How come when all 12 cards are dealt out I have some cards repeating in the game? For example, I get queen of diamonds in more than one picture box when I only want the card to be dealt once and then removed until the next game.
2. I was hoping to have a button 3 to clear all the boxes, basically resetting the game to the next game. When I hit button 3 it only clears the contents of picturebox 10 and 12.Other notes: I have the deal down the way I want it. It deals the first 10 picture boxes and a second button deals the 11 and 12 picture boxes.
3. I know this is my next step so I want to post it with the code I currently have. I want to start taking my project one step further by evalutating each of the three rows of cards (3 rows of 3 cards each - I'm not worried about the dealers hand (picture box 10, 11, 12 yet). So I want to evaluate a row of pictureboxes against a "pay scale" and display the win in a text box or label next to the 3 card hand. For example, Q of diamonds, Q of Clubs, Q of spades would win 15, etc. ( have a weird feeling I may have to change the names of the cards (I have them named card1, card2, etc. right now) to something that identifies them in order to evaluate the hands.
Here is the code that I currently have. I'm using visual basic.
Public Class Form1 Dim Rndm As New Random Dim myPB(11) As PictureBox Dim HiddenCards As New List(Of String)
I have created a scrabble game that generates random letters. For the user to type in a word using the random letters they have to type it in a text box.
I want my program to prevent users from typing in letters that are not provided in the text box and to allow them to type in the random letters that are provided.
I'm trying to make a simple fruit machine game for windows mobile device.
I can create the game easily enough and flip through pictures in a picture box to display the correct symbol.. but what I'd like to do is do a proper spinning reel, but have no idea where to even start.
What I have is a list of images in an imagelist (or individual files) - what I'd like is them attached to each other and moving downwards, preferably as though it were going around a drum but just them moving would be a start.
I am trying to make a game which basiclly lets you shoot ducks. i have a picture as a background (set as form image) i then have picturebox's with ducks flying flying around you shoot them the disapear etc.
My problem is the image. i have a picture of a duck and a blue square round it. and i would liketo make it transparant because birds dont fly with blue squares.
Below is an image to illistrate my problem
I have tried adding transparent background, transparant key etc
On programming assignment without having any real experience in vb. I guess I don't understand subroutines that well. When the program runs it never goes to the computer's turn and does not update the users score either. This assignment is already in but would like to know what is going wrong. Using VB 2010, and this is windows application.
Code: Public Class Form1 Dim Myturn As Integer Dim Computerturn As Integer
I'm trying to make a 2D platform game and I'm pretty inexperienced at programming. I've coded the player to move left and right and jump, but I can't figure out how to prevent multiple jumps while the player is in the air. Anyone know how to do this?
Check Score: The winner is the one with the highest score less than or equal to 21If both scores(player total and computer total) are over 21, or if both are equal but under 21, the game is declared a draw.
There is something wrong with this line: If intPlayerCardTotal < intScore And intComputerTotal < intScore Then MsgBox "Draw"
Upon changing the field size a game should restart. Upon trying to do so I see the previous grid (e.g. 10x10) displayed on top of the new one (e.g. 4x4). How would I prevent this and indeed start the game fresh?
