Class's Designer ShouldSerialize Method?

Feb 17, 2010

I'm working on a custom control which requires gradient settings. I created a class to contain the data, and it works perfectly, but i'd like to be able to use Reset in Visual Studio. I got that working for each individual data item, but I can't figure out how to get the designer to call my classes' ShouldSerialize and Reset methods.

Code:
<TypeConverter(GetType(ExpandableObjectConverter)), Editor(GetType(GradientFillEditor), GetType(UITypeEditor))> _
Public Class GradientFill
Private colorDark As Color = StyledColors.DarkFocused

Best Method To Convert Designer Into Program?

Aug 24, 2010

I've been trying to figure out how to do this for some time now and keep coming up short, so I'm hoping to get some good suggestions.

I'm making an application that will allow the user to add some labels during runtime, edit their text, and then 'build' the designer that would output code for a scripting language.

The people using this app are creating the scripts using Notepad++ at the moment, but aren't developers in any way and would like an easier, point and click method.[code]...

C# - Prevent Designer Class From Being Rebuilt?

Jul 19, 2010

Is there any way that I can prevent a designer class from being rebuilt when running my project? The designer class is a webservice reference with over 30000 lines of code and appears to be being rebuilt almost every time I run my project. (Which obviously takes quite some time)

Is there some explicit way I can prevent Visual Studio 2010 from rebuilding this class each time I run the project?

Create A New Class That Inherits From The Base Form Class And Define A New() Method With Parameters?

Oct 1, 2008

I've been creating short test apps repeatedly to try to understand some of the concepts in VB.NET.For the most part it has been illuminating.I read Bucky's .NET knowlegebase tutorial on passing objects as parameters to newly created forms. He shows how to create a new class that inherits from the base form class and define a New() method with parameters Extending the concept I thought about doing the same thing with a form that was created at design-time (In this case Form2).

Call Method Base Class In Program Passing Sub Class Objects?

Apr 22, 2012

Base class has one field to hold numeric balance value. With 2 methods that accept arguments for adding and subtracting the new input calculating new balance. Sub class has four fields dates, transaction, memo and amount.I have a deposit form, and withdraw form. Each time one transaction is entered it creates an object with sub class fields, then adds to the account collection. My problem is not understanding how to call the deposit/withdraw method and pass the current transaction amount back to the base class to alculate the new balance. Does anyone have any links to information/tutorials on how to perform something like this? As you can see with my code I have tried various different approaches without any success.

VS 2008 Properties In 'groups' (class) In Designer (property Grid)?

Jul 29, 2009

I'm creating a UserControl that draws a simple radial gauge. I need it to be very customizable; the user should be able to customize everything such as the colors, fonts, sizes. So, I just made a property for every customizable detail. For example, I had ScaleFont, ScaleColor, ScaleStart, ScaleEnd, ScaleInnerRadius, ScaleOuterRadius, ScaleTickmarkFrequenty, etc.. etc.. etc...

Because there are so many properties about the same subject, I wanted to 'group' these properties into one "property". I've seen this done loads of times in third party controls, but I've never done it before myself.The idea is that the properties can be accessed like

Me.Gauge1.ScaleSettings.Start = 10
Me.Gauge1.ScaleSettings.End = 80
...

So far, I tried creating a class for each group, for example a clsScaleSettings class, containing properties like Font, Color, Start, End, InnerRadius, OuterRadius, TickmarkFrequenty, etc (corresponding to the same properties as above).

Then, for every 'group' or class, I create a Property. For example, I have the ScaleSettings property, which simply returns an instance of the clsScaleSettings class (I initialize the instance only once of course):

vb.net
Private _ScaleSettings As New clsScaleSettings
Public Property ScaleSettings() As clsScaleSettings

[code]....

Now, this works in the code editor. I can now use

Gauge1.ScaleSettings.Font = Me.Font

for example, and it sets the font correctly.But, I does not work in the designer, in the Property Grid. The whole reason I made the effort to move and rename nearly all properties (about 70!), and all references to those properties, to separate classes, was so that the user could design the gauge more easily using the Property Grid!Instead of having 15 settings related to the scale, scattered all over the Property Grid, he can now have one ScaleSettings property, which he can expand, and then he can edit the properties of that group easily.The ScaleSettings property is greyed out in the property grid... So I cannot expand it and view it's underlying properties.

Hiding A Method From A VB Class In A Derived C# Class?

Apr 20, 2011

I'm writing a set of unit tests for a large, complex class called ImageEditor from a piece of legacy code, where image processing and GUI functionality isn't strictly divided. One of the methods in the class, BaseImageChanged, seems to be concerned entirely with how images get displayed and should be disabled in my unit tests to avoid unnecessary complexity. The test project is in C#, and the original code is in VB; my idea was to create a Decorator for the class in C# and then hide the method behind an empty one that does nothing. However, when I try running the unit test, the VB code keeps referencing the old BaseImageChanged method as though the replacement didn't exist. Here's what I'm doing:

(VB class)
Public Class ImageEditor

Declare A WithEvents Class In Windows Form Designer Which Is Not Control Base

"Tab" is not inherited from Control, but each tab has its events. So when the user add a "Tab" in the "Tabs Collection", each "Tab" instance should have a (Name) identifier, which user can access it in the code, and with WithEvents keyword so users can add event handlers to each "Tab". The expected out come should similar to this:

Friend WithEvents t1 As Tab

Me.TabStrip1.Tabs.Add(t1)

IDE :: Design A ContextMenuStrip In A Designer Without A Relation To A Specific Form Or UserControl Class?

Oct 16, 2011

in VS 2008, is there a way to design a ContextMenuStrip in a designer without a relation to a specific Form or UserControl class? For example,if you need the same ContextMenuStrip in Form1, Form2 and Form3, in which of them am I to design the ContextMenuStrip? Do I have to add a "pseudo-Form" to the project that contains my shared ContextMenuStrips and create only one instance of that Form, or is there another way? I consider this a programmatic hack, that's why my question is whether the IDE offers something better.

VS 2008 Partial Class Files For Windows Forms Or Any Other Designer-generated Control?

Sep 24, 2009

I have cooked up my first iteration of a code generator which creates the basic Entity models from a SQL Database Schema. Currently, It will scan a SQL Db Schema, and create .vb code files complete with private members and Public property declarations for every User table in the Database. My next step is having it add the basic CRUD procedures as well. Are we mere mortals able to access whatever technology allows the Partial class files created by vs to be hidden/Linked to their "parent" files, such as the Partial Class files for Windows forms or any other designer-generated control? My thinking is that it would be handy to be able to re-generate code files from the database if necessary to reflect changes in the schema, without overwriting any other properties or methods added to a class in addition to those derived from the database. SO I am hoing I can have the Auto-generated output go to a Partial Class file, and then use a regular class file of the same name for the rest of the code. My Concern is the multiplicity of files that might result, so I was hoping it is possible to "tuck them in" to the parent code file in the Class View.

Assign A Value To A Class From A Method Within The Class

Feb 13, 2012

I know this is possible, and it is probably something simple that I am missing... I have a fairly complex class to handle deserialization of an XML file. I wish to place a [class].loadfile method within the class. It looks something like this: Serialization decoration left out for simplicity...

The Deserialization is working just fine (that's my own code), but assigning the object value to Me is not correct. What I want is for an instantiation of this class to have a LoadFile method (similar to the XML class LoadFile method) - but I cannot figure out how to set the value of the class from within the class.
