Is there any way that I can prevent a designer class from being rebuilt when running my project? The designer class is a webservice reference with over 30000 lines of code and appears to be being rebuilt almost every time I run my project. (Which obviously takes quite some time)
Is there some explicit way I can prevent Visual Studio 2010 from rebuilding this class each time I run the project?

I've been trying out VS2010 and noticed that the Find and Replace dialog box was extraordinarily wide. I resized it (smaller) but it always seems to get wider. At first, I though it was designed to be that way. Then, I noticed the same problem on a control I created in a project. Whenever I rebuild the project the Find and Replace dialog box widens if it is closed and then reopened.
A samiliar thing happens with the control at design time. The control has a panel docked to its left side. It went from a width = 40 to 52 after a rebuild, the next rebuild changed it to 68, the next time it went to 89. Well, you get the idea.
Is this a bug in VS2010's IDE? I've side-stepped by resetting the panel's width at runtime but, obviously, this should not happen.
REASON : my program have many projects , and some of them relative about interface . If i change one , but when i call this from other project then, the change won't affect. and it takes several times , it may work.

I got that working for each individual data item, but I can't figure out how to get the designer to call my classes' ShouldSerialize and Reset methods.

I have a class which inherits a form class, and just recently it's started acting strange. All of the controls on the form are locked, and I don't understand why. I can't edit the properties of any controls, or anything.

I am using Linq to Sql that generated a data contract for a table. I have a date field in that table which is a non-nullable field. View 1 RepliesI'm creating a UserControl that draws a simple radial gauge. I need it to be very customizable; the user should be able to customize everything such as the colors, fonts, sizes. So, I just made a property for every customizable detail. For example, I had ScaleFont, ScaleColor, ScaleStart, ScaleEnd, ScaleInnerRadius, ScaleOuterRadius, ScaleTickmarkFrequenty, etc.. etc.. etc...
Because there are so many properties about the same subject, I wanted to 'group' these properties into one "property". I've seen this done loads of times in third party controls, but I've never done it before myself.The idea is that the properties can be accessed like

So far, I tried creating a class for each group, for example a clsScaleSettings class, containing properties like Font, Color, Start, End, InnerRadius, OuterRadius, TickmarkFrequenty, etc (corresponding to the same properties as above).
Then, for every 'group' or class, I create a Property. For example, I have the ScaleSettings property, which simply returns an instance of the clsScaleSettings class (I initialize the instance only once of course):

Now, this works in the code editor. I can now use
Gauge1.ScaleSettings.Font = Me.Font
for example, and it sets the font correctly.But, I does not work in the designer, in the Property Grid. The whole reason I made the effort to move and rename nearly all properties (about 70!), and all references to those properties, to separate classes, was so that the user could design the gauge more easily using the Property Grid!Instead of having 15 settings related to the scale, scattered all over the Property Grid, he can now have one ScaleSettings property, which he can expand, and then he can edit the properties of that group easily.The ScaleSettings property is greyed out in the property grid... So I cannot expand it and view it's underlying properties.
How do I set a User control (or a class with a few properties) to appear in the tan bar at the bottom of the Designer? I have tried googleing it but, I don't know what that bar is called (Kinda Hard to Google without know what to Google)
View 2 RepliesI am making a TabStrip control to hold a number of tabs just like TabControl, but only with the tabs, no page. The control has a "Tabs Collection", which stores a list of "Tab" class. "Tab" is not inherited from Control, but each tab has its events. So when the user add a "Tab" in the "Tabs Collection", each "Tab" instance should have a (Name) identifier, which user can access it in the code, and with WithEvents keyword so users can add event handlers to each "Tab". The expected out come should similar to this:

in VS 2008, is there a way to design a ContextMenuStrip in a designer without a relation to a specific Form or UserControl class? For example,if you need the same ContextMenuStrip in Form1, Form2 and Form3, in which of them am I to design the ContextMenuStrip? Do I have to add a "pseudo-Form" to the project that contains my shared ContextMenuStrips and create only one instance of that Form, or is there another way? I consider this a programmatic hack, that's why my question is whether the IDE offers something better.

A couple usage scenarios:A Fluent interface on a large class; a statement like "foo=bar.WithX(5).WithY(9).WithZ(19);" would be inefficient if it had to create three new instances of the class, but could be much more efficient if the WithX could create one instance, and the other statements could simply use it.A class may wish to support a statement like "foo[19].x = 9;" even when foo itself isn't an array, and does not hold the data in class instances that can be exposed to the public; one way to do that is to have foo[19] return a struct which holds a reference to 'foo' and the value '19', and has a member property 'x' which could call "foo.SetXValue(19, 9);" Such a struct could have a conversion operator to convert itself to the "apparent" type of foo[19].In both of these scenarios, storing the value returned by a method or property into a variable and then using it more than once would cause strange behavior. It would be desirable if the designer of the class exposing such methods or properties could ensure that callers wouldn't be able to use them more than once. Is there any practical way to accomplish that?In formulating a question, it's difficult sometimes to draw the line between complicated usage cases, and simpler usage cases which aren't quite so important. The return object from WithXXX would be known to be of the derived class, and would thus use the shadowed WithXXX methods, but once it was assigned to a variable, it would be regarded as an instance of the base class, so the next WithXXX would create a new instance.
C++ a stronger concept of value types than C# or vb.net, including the very useful concept of references to value types; it ensures that references to value types cannot be persisted outside the scope of the type in question. Unsafe code in C# can use pointers to value types, but they don't have the protections offered by C++ references.
I have cooked up my first iteration of a code generator which creates the basic Entity models from a SQL Database Schema. Currently, It will scan a SQL Db Schema, and create .vb code files complete with private members and Public property declarations for every User table in the Database. My next step is having it add the basic CRUD procedures as well. Are we mere mortals able to access whatever technology allows the Partial class files created by vs to be hidden/Linked to their "parent" files, such as the Partial Class files for Windows forms or any other designer-generated control? My thinking is that it would be handy to be able to re-generate code files from the database if necessary to reflect changes in the schema, without overwriting any other properties or methods added to a class in addition to those derived from the database. SO I am hoing I can have the Auto-generated output go to a Partial Class file, and then use a regular class file of the same name for the rest of the code. My Concern is the multiplicity of files that might result, so I was hoping it is possible to "tuck them in" to the parent code file in the Class View.

I've successfully called and used it in my Main Project. But when I started debugging and stepping through my code which involves calling and using the class I wrote in my Class Library, I noticed that the class' file in my Class Library opens up during debug mode.
how can I prevent the Class Library's files from being opened during my Main Project's debug mode?
I am attempting to update an existing winforms application, that was created with a dataset control on all the winforms pages. I have ported it from VS 2008 to VS 2010 and I need to update the database section and connect it to the SQL backend using traditional code method.In the Solution explorer, when I click on the Dataset files, and click "Exclude From project" I am unable to build the project.Is it advisable to comment out the code lines that refer to the dataset in the .designer.vb files?

I've more or less finished the design of the interfase, but there are stange this happening with the form. I can say much about what is wrong because I dont understand it, but I would like to. I have added the form Class code and the Designer Code, is that enough or is more required? Theres a msgbox that popup in the form Load event which I placed there to see what I could learn about the GraphicsBuffer.

My self and most everyone else on our team is having the same issue with VS2008. The designer will not render many forms in designer mode. Currently I am getting this error "The type 'Team.CAD.UI.My.Resources.Resources' has not property named 'view_16'" Well veiw_16 is in the resouces file.

View 1 RepliesI have put this code in the global form Inherits System.Windows.Forms.Form. And then in the form that will inherit this from the global Inherits MenuStrip. "MenuStrip" is what the global form is called. But keep getting this error: Error1Base class 'MenuStrip' specified for class 'Lesson2' cannot be different from the base class 'System.Windows.Forms.Form' of one of its other partial types.

The last word, "ClientProfile" has the scary squiggly red line below it. It is not recognizing my class.Even the Intellisense is not picking up te class. Do I have to register the class file in any way?
