Code Only Works Successfully When Passed The Same Values About Half Of The Time?

Sep 25, 2010

I have a situation that has puzzled me for weeks. I am running logic that does a bit of back and forth to and from the database for each time it is executed (about 20 times). The problem is that the same code works about half of the time. What could possibly be the reason for the difference in execution performance and how can I better shore that this problem is checked?

IDE :: Component Will Not Render At Design-time, But Works Fine At Run-time?

Jan 30, 2009

using VS2008, targetting framework 3.5I have a rather complex UserConrol which does some of its own rendering.I display this UserControl on a form.Opening that form in the Designer creates an instance of the UserControl in the Designer, which tells me a NullReferenceException is occurring in one of my rendering methods.I have attempted to correct this by making alterations to the UserControl's default constructor, but have not found success.

Update Access DB With Passed In Values?

Mar 11, 2010

I am currently working on a project that requires an update within an Access Database. There are photo folders, and the user defines the path name via a dialog box. That path name is stored to a string value, and through OleDBReader, the actual name of the photo (from another column in the database) is stored to another string value. Anyway, I have tried a number of methods to update, and nothing is working, here is my code from the OleDBReader on, and the procedure designed to do the update. (note that TargetID represents the primary key of the access DB.. this is why I pass that value in because I can use the Rows.Find(PK) method.. When I use a simpler updating method, I get an error saying I do not have a valid update command). OK Here is the code:

Dim photoSQL As String = "SELECT * FROM PotentialTarget"
Dim oleDbCommand As OleDbCommand = New OleDbCommand(photoSQL, tableConn)
Dim oleDbDataReader As OleDbDataReader = oleDbCommand.ExecuteReader()

C# - Object Being Passed Using Webmethod, Loses Some Values But Not All?

Jun 22, 2011

when calling a webmethod

[WebMethod]
public Profile synchronize(string MID, DeviceUploadData data)

The object DeviceUploadData has many properties, and a few of them are array's. My question is about the array specifically. It loses it's value once it's received on the webmethod end. This is the property inside DeviceUploadData

Private data() As DataObject
Public Property Data() As DataObject()
Get

[code]....

So the DataObject is populated with data, then once passed, on the other end, some of the DataObject properties are no longer populated. I haven't included the other properties in this example.

VS 2005 : Declaring Clearing Passed Values?

Nov 1, 2009

I'm just learning VB and enjoying it, but I have run into a problem with a recent program. I am working with passing values. There is a button on my form that is pressed each time the user "votes" for an option. The problem is I'm declaring my variables in the button press action, then calling my subs/functions.

This seems to be re-declaring my variables each time the button is pressed causing the total counters to fail to increment. I wrote the code for a very basic example of what I am running into in my more complex program.

Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim intGenericValue As Integer
Call GenericSub(intGenericValue)

DB/Reporting :: Selected Values From Comboboxes Not Being Passed To Connectionstring?

Jun 10, 2008

Once again I have hit a brick wall here. I have a combobox in which the user types the server name and then clicks on button 'CONNECT' to populate the next combobox which contains all the databases in that
server. Then after the user selects a database, I have another button that he/she click and I want to retrieve file groups from a specific table. At this point when he/she clicks on that button I get an error: "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. Passlist Separator Program Will Not Let Read And Write Half Of A File To One File, Then The Other Half To Another File?

Nov 8, 2011

What my program does is load a file (password list), then progressively reads each line of text in the file whilst writing each line to a new file. After X amount of lines have been written, it should start writing the lines of text to a new document until the initial password list has been split into X amount of password lists. The problem I have is that after hours of tweaking, all I can get it to do is write either blank ocuments, or write all of the lines to only one file. I really need it to be able to split into multiple files, preferably at runtime rather than loading a whole text document into the program in a textbox or array then writing it to new files.Below is the source:

Imports System
Imports System.Windows.Forms
Imports System.IO

Type Being Passed Through Web Service Not Being Recognized By Consuming Code

Mar 22, 2012

I am creating an XML web service that passes an array of custom types. In my consuming code I am referencing the code as a web reference which I have given the namespace MYWS. Now in code I am trying to assign the results of my web service call to an array of my type like so..[code]When I do this the complier complains, saying: "Value of 1 dimensional array of my.namespace.MyClass cannot be converted to 1 dimensional array of my. namespace. MYWS.MyClass because my.namespace.MYSW.MyClass is not derived from my.namespace.MyClass"Now I understand the message, the thing is they are the same class. The class is declared in my calling code by the web service references a dll from that project. How do I tell the compiler that these are the same type?

VS 2008 : SQL Query - Works At Design Time But Not Runtime?

Aug 16, 2010

I've created an SQL Query using the query builder. In the query builder, you can test the query by clicking the button "Execute Query", and entering the desired values in the parameter fields.

My query returns the correct results when I do this, but when I seemingly pass the same values at runtime, I get 0 records returned. The query is designed such that you can pass nulls if you don't wish to filter data by that particular parameter.
SQL Query:

SELECT ID, UPC, Quantity, Manufacturer, Style, Color, Size, Category, DateReceived, Cost, OriginalRetail, Retail, LocationID
FROM Inventory
WHERE (UPC = @UPC OR

[code]....

In the query builder "Execute Query" dialog, I enter a value I know that the db contains in the "Size" field, "1/1/1900" & "1/1/2199" in Dates A & B, respectively, and nulls for all other fields. This returns 1 record, which is just as I expected. It works correctly. But when I pass the same values into the method created by the designer, I get 0 records returned. I can't figure out where the problem lies. Even if I enter nulls for all fields other than the dates, it returns 0. This tells me that the dates are causing the problem, but I can't figure out why, because I'm passing strings equivalent to what I entered in the query builder.

VS 2008 Copy File To Network Share With Username/pass Passed In The Code

Aug 4, 2010

I've been looking at accessing shared folders, read and write, via the network without being prompted by the OS for the username and password.

On this forum, and googling, I can find many things about accessing network shares, but none using code which also passes the username and password required.

What I'm basically looking for is to not have to map a drive on the users computer. Then using code, write or read files from a network share and at the same time pass the username / password required for that network share.

List To Update Every Time And Show The Values Each Time To Which The Previous Value Is Added To The New Calculation?

Jun 22, 2010

The idea with this form is to add the futures which is calculated when the button is pushed but I need the list to update every time and show the values each time to which the previous value is added to the new calculation, e.g. of what it should look like in listbox:

Year 1: $1,290.93
Year 2: $2,724.32
Year 3: $4,350.76
etc....

I have been working on this a while and I am at a standstill, I was given a function to clear the form everytime it calculates but I don't know how to implement it, I am new to VB. Here is what I have so far:

Public Class frmFutureValue
Private Sub btnCalculate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, _
ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCalculate.Click
