ComboBox - Full Search On Adding New Character

Apr 27, 2011

I am Looking for a combobox that does a full search and O mean by that the following :
It starts searching data upon inserting or adding new character to the textbox of the combobox and vice-versa, which means that if I moved back by deleting a character then it starts searching again selecting the first data resembles the textbox. In another way I want a combobox class does exactly the same as combobox in Encylopedia.

IDE :: Multi Column ComboBox, Full Search System?

Aug 3, 2009

Regarding multi column search, i want to clear you the situation where one column contains say FirstName and the another column contains LastName for the 'Contacts Combo box', then when user types either FirstName or LastName for the person, combo box should search for the appropriate value into both columns.

for my fifth question consider the same combo box with FirstName, LastName all typed together shows in one column only then, by default combo box searches only for strings that 'Start' with the string typed in the textbox portion, insted of which i need a feature which allows me to let set the behavior of combo box search system tobe able to search for the typed strings within any part of record.i.e. If user types 'Ja' in textbox portion, the the list should show following maches

Micle Jackson
Sandeep B Jakhotya
Javid Akhatar
Suresh Jadhav

Search The Local Disk For A File Type And Copy The Full Path To A New Location?

Feb 1, 2010

How can I search the local disk for a file type and copy the full path to a new location. I am trying to write a backup program that will copy all pst files to the server while maitaining the structure, so if there is a pst located in "C:pstuserpersonal1.pst" it would create the folder "\serverpstuserpersonal1.pst" and copy the file to the correct location. I would need it to do this for each pst on the hard drive no matter the location. The user running the program will not have admin rights, so it will need to skip files it cannot access.

Search For A Character In A String?

Nov 20, 2010

Recently I have started my computing course at college. I had little programming knowledge (as I'm more of a 'web developer') and it has come to the point of us learning some of the basics.I downloaded VB at home, and have been learning by myself when I have the chance... but I've hit a wall Basically, I have to create a program that searches for a character within a string.I managed to do this at college, but it has slipped my mind... So I could use some help The specification we have to meet is:An event (such as a button being clicked) must use a function to return something. The function must use the mid() function

From this, I've come up with:
Public Class Form1
Dim string1, searchterm As String

[code].....

The layout of my program is effectively 2 text boxes (named input1 & searchterm), a Label (named Output1) and a button (named search).ow, My problem (I think) is due to the mid().I'm not entirely sure I've used it correctly.

Search String For A Character?

Nov 17, 2008

I know this has been answered before but I am having trouble with it still. I am trying to find if a textbox has an "x" as the first character. I am trying to use the left(string, 1) command as described in a couple other threads to just test the first character on the left but the only left function I can find relates to the left coordinates of the textbox.

ComboBox Auto-Search With String From ComboBox?

Sep 23, 2009

have build some code which goes through the datasource finding records on what a user types, basically if the user types 'P' in the combobox it finds all records from FieldName with 'P' and if you type 'Portugal' it finds all records from the FieldName with 'Portugal, it all narrows down the search list say if there are to entries which match 'Portugal' the combox would only have to items in. The problem i am have is that when i bound the datasource back to the combobox every letter you type stays at Postion 0 of the combobox and doesn't move to the end of the letter as normally the combo works, does any one now how to get arround this problem.

At the moment i call my combobox search code from the keypress event of the combobox. This code works fine with recordsets in msaccess combobox but i cannot get it to work with the datasource of the combobox in vb.net Heres the code from the combobox keypress event:

Private Sub ComboBox1_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles ComboSearch.KeyPress
Dim keyascii As Integer = AscW(e.KeyChar)
PhoneBookComboSearch(keyascii)
End Sub

Below is the code at the end of my keypress event send the datasource back to the combobox.

Dim adapter As New SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter(strSQL, conn)
Dim dt As New DataTable("MyTable")
Dim ds As New DataSet

Accented Character Replacement For Search Then Reinserted Afterwards

Apr 12, 2010

Basically my issue is that users would like to search for a french word that has accented characters but without typing in the accented characters and then have the actual accented word appeared highlighted if found... So for example they would type in "declare" but in the result sets it would look like "déclare" and if found "déclare" would be highlighted.

My first thought was to just simply replace the characters with a regex but then I remembered that I would need to re-insert the replaced characters after the search... I was thinking of then using some sort of character map that would track position and the character so that when the search was finshed I could put the result set back to the way it was.

DB/Reporting :: Single Character With In A String Search In SQL Query?

Jan 14, 2011

I am trying to do a SQL query that checks for the presence or absence of a character's occurance in a field / column as a condition to retrieve the row. In this case I only need to test for existance of the specified character and in a similar query to test for the non existence. Not where it is or how many, just is it there or is it notI am using VB express.net 2008 and it uses, I think, MS SQL Server 2008.Using VB's instr() I can tell straight away if a string does or doesn't contain a character, but I would like to know this before I retrieve the row.

using the

WHERE .... and [mytable.myfield] LIKE 'Q'
or
WHERE .... and [mytable.myfield] NOT LIKE 'Q'

produces a result, but not a correct result. It does something but I can not say that it is working even part way.CHARINDEX gets an undefined function error MATCHES also gets an undefined function error?CONTAINS looks like it should work but I am still getting sytax errors with it, so I don't know how to use that predicate yet.

Masked TextBox Adding Extra Character

Oct 31, 2010

I'm working on a project that employs a masked text box with a mask ####. When I run the code it pulls the value from the textbox then clears it. When I try to type in it again the first character is added before the mask. (ex. 1#### instead of ####) I've figured out that pressing backspace before trying to enter numbers again resolves this issue. Is there a way to send the backspace function rather than the chrs(8) like SendKeys.Send(Keys.Back) does?

Adding Search Providers From Webpages?

Dec 25, 2011

I've been working on some autocomplete abilities for a webbrowser I'm building, rather like in IE or Firefox. This is what I mean: I have absolutely everything working - adding search providers from webpages, getting the search suggestions as an XML file from whatever provider may be being used, and adding them in a multithreaded manner to the combobox with all the suggestions in it.

But there's a problem. Due to the fact that the search suggestions are only retrieved (in a matter of milliseconds) after the user has typed something in the Combobox, the suggestions only flicker up, as they are modified just after the text is changed, therefore I get an effect like this:

Again, I'm pretty sure I'm getting this effect because of the fact that I'm adding the Auto Complete suggestions to the combobox right after the text is changed - so they just hide themselves again - and this process is repeated. Does anyone know any way in which I might be able to stop this disappearing from happening? Because I've had a good think about it and I can't really think of any workarounds.
