We are filling a combobox with information of a table. (we read a field for filling the combobox and the id)
It's necessary that if we choose an item in the combobox we also get the id of the table.How do we put the id into the combobox so can read this id after selecting an item.

My.Settings.Current_DB is bound to 'cbdatabase' which is a combobox which is filled by this method:

So that throughout the program and when the program starts up it knows what the current database is.
The databases and the folders have the same name, in order to keep track of. My problem is when the combobox is filled when the program starts, it is overwriting the current info with the first item of the info loaded into the combo box.

Instead of maintaining the Current_DB as "Default", it updates it with the first item into the Combobox and that is "Alabama". How do I fix this so that it maintains the correct Current_DB and not update when the Combobox is filled.

All works well HOWEVER, new records are not displayed in sorted order.When I add a new RECORD, it can go anywhere within the table. When I move around the table using the TABLEADAPTER Manager, the newly added record does not appear in sorted order.Furthermore, when I restart the application and show the form (which issued a FILL command), the records are not sorted.The SELECT I am using is fairly simple:

When I insert a new record, it might fall between 4313 and 4314. Lets assume I add 9999. I expect it to be at the end of the list however, it appears between 4313 and 4314.FYI Also tried this in the code as well:

How can I control what is filled into the table adapter at runtime? Basically, I have a table full of thousands of rows, and I want to limit this to just 1 row. I want to specify an ID number and be able to pull up that row in the table, and I need to do this at run time. What are my options, and what is the easiest way? I want to make sure the data is still linked to the original row in my database, that way the changes are saved properly.
View 5 RepliesI have a form with a combobox that is filled with a list of parts from a mysql DB. But the table contains more then 1000 parts. So I decided to load only the first 20. then have 2 bottuns 1 for UP and one for Down. when the user wants to get next 20 he press Down Etc. I see that the data is retrived well from the DB. I use a stored procedure with parameters and test it outside the VB code. In the VB debug I also see that the combobox got loaded with the right data. But the drop down list continue to show the original 20 parts. I also have a code to see if I got to the top or to the end and display a message box. I got the message box display but still the drop down is showing the original 20 parts.
View 4 RepliesI'm using Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition, so I have a combobox that gets filled with items from a data base made with Microsoft Acces, the combobox is filled with the values stored in a column from a table in de database so the user can select an "option" from it, I want to add labels that show the values for the corresponding row of that column. I used the Data Source panel to drag and drop the labels corresponding to the values that I want and it works it show the value that I want when I compile the application (at least I think it does, it could be that it's only selecting the first entry) the problem is that when I select a diferent entry on the combobox the labels don't refresh with the new values. How can I do that?

I have set up at DataGridView "cdgvExp" for data entry. cdgvExp.Datasource = ExpTab. The datagridview can accept new rows according to how many entries there are. I will then use the data in ExpTab. The Fourth colum is called "Lot" and is a combobox in the datagridview. I am creating a form for entering technical data about a part into an Access database. In the same form I have several ComboBoxs that need to have their lists filled from the same reference table in my database. I have a number and unit field for the twist and bending radius properties. I made the unit fields ComboBoxes and I am trying to bind them to referance table in my database called UnitsLength. The relevant structure is as follows....
Form: NewPartForm
Database: CableDataSet
Main Table: PartMechanical - with fields: TwistNom, TwistUnits, BendingRadiusNom, BendingRadiusUnits
Reference Table: UnitsLength - with fields: Unit, Shorthand, Conversion Factor
First tired the following settings....
Data Source: Other Data Sources > NewPartForm List Instances > CableDatase
Display Member: UnitsLength.Shorthand
Value Member: UnitsLength.Unit
SelectedValue: PartMechanicalBindingSource > [The associated unit field]
But the lists didn't populate.... Then I tried these settings

But now every ComboBox displays the same value but still stores the data in the proper field... it just sets them all the same.

I have a combo box, it is populated with a database column of "G/L codes" (by the way that is not the column name) the combo box shows these values without problem.
These codes exist in a table that is editable (basically so the user can add a G/L code to the list if one is missing), a button is supplied that opens a new form, which contains DB related text boxes, and a data binding navigator to look through the data base records, save, add new records, etc. When this form is loaded, the user can add a new record, save the info, and then close this form, which brings us back to the main form where the combo box is located that is populated with the values of this G/L code table, what I am trying to get working is updating this combo box now that a new G/L code has been added.

I have looked all over the web for a way to set up a VB 2008 combobox but what I have seen makes me shudder! I want to , as In Access VBA, set the recordsource/datasource for the combobox i.e. the list shown in the combobox, to the values of another table (currency) and then when the user selects one of these values to store it in the (already) bound field of the combobox (to another table). In Access of course there was a wizard for this sort of thing, but in VB 2008 looks like it is just lots of code.

View 2 RepliesI'm writing an app to print a list of beers that are currently on tap at the restaurant where I work part-time. We have 29 taps and dozens of different beers. I have 2 tables in a database (one with the "master list" of all the beers and an "on tap" one with one entry per tap). Each database entry includes fields for name, brewer, location, style and ABV. So far I've made a GUI with 29 combo boxes (one for each tap) and 2 buttons (one that opens a dialog box to modify the "master list" and one to print the list). The idea was to make it as simple as possible since the people who use it aren't great with computers and are often in a hurry.
Each combo box drops down the whole master list of beers and I'd like for the selected beer to be written to the corresponding index in the "on tap" table. My idea is to then extract the data from the "on tap" table and print it. I haven't done any coding yet, really, just drag-and-drop.It's frustrating since I know how I'd do the back end in C or C++, but not in VB. The reverse is true for the GUI.
