View 1 Repliesfor a test project that i'm doing i am looking for ways to program a LED screen. I ordered a few LED screens (320x160) that can be connected together). Using a special controlcard the whole thing can then display text etc. Using the software that a Chinese supplier gave me. All the above works fine. But I am depending on the software I have. I have VB.Net experience and I would like to put the software aside and write my own software. I would like to set up the COM connection and tell what LED to activate.
Problem i'm facing is that the chinese cannot provide me good use of the software dll files. I need a small Vb.net program that does the above. Would somebody be able to figure out how to do this.
I realize this is a broad question, but how do I recieve / send packets. I know what packets I need to send and what Im going to recieve, but I dont know how to send / recieve them.

I try to use it in a project I am working on but somethings are not clear to me.
1: Now the send and received data is shown in one RichTextBox but I would like to split this into two RichTextBoxes (RtbSend and RtbReceived).It is unclear to me how and were data is assigned to the RichTextBox?
2. the received data is shown in the Richtextbox as one long line, I would like to get a new line for every send message.So for example: I I send "test" four times, I would like to see:

now I see: Test Test Test Test I've tried ctrlf but this does not work.The example describes that "comPort_DataReceived" is executed when data is waiting in the buffer. Where can I see the eventhandler responsible for this? How does it know data is waiting?The problem is this kind of coding is a bit to difficult for me. I want to understand the code before I implement it into my project.

View 1 RepliesI am working on a client/server based application and I have run into quite a few snags stumbling my way through I have resolved quite a few issues, and need help with something new. I am using a TCPIP client/server and I find that at the end of each loop when I am reading the data from the network stream it appends a character to the end. I have tried removing the last character but I am not sure if it is getting the whole character successfully because I still get lots of different errors both in binary and xml deserialization whcih I think is related to this. Does anyone know the ascii code for the termination character for TCPServer/Client communications?

View 1 RepliesI am using VB2008 Express and am curious how to send a command via RS232 communications. The string that I need to send is 02h PON 03h. The start and end bits are 02h and 03h.
How can I convert 02h and 03h to its ascii form. In hyperterminal, I use the sequence {(hold)ALT 0 0 2} on the number pad to send the start bit.

I am trying to make a program with a bar code reader for the first time. I am programming with VB 2005. I want to differentiate a bar code entry to keyboard entry. My questions:
1. Does bar code reader generate a keydown (or keypress) event for each of the digits of the entry? For example, if the barcode read: 1234567890, does that mean that there will be 10 keydown (or keypress) events for that single barcode that was read?
2. I have read from the posts that the best way to differentiating keyboard vs bar code input is to analyse the time between keystroke (for less than certain number of milliseconds).

View 2 RepliesI avidly create games in VB.net. Being a hobby programmer I give my games away for free. Since I'm a hobbiest without formal training I do try and educate myself on proper programming principles and follow them when programming such as OOP. There are however some things I have obviously missed being self-taught that perhaps I would know if I were formally educated. Once such issue that has really been my bane is how different classes (from now on referred to as objects) 'know' about each other WITHOUT programming specific interaction.
Okay imagine this, you have a space game and the following objects

Now each one of these objects has a Health, X,Y and Z private members and properties that are all inherited from clsSpaceEntity for argument sake. Now one way of programming collision between them would be to code out the following logic in the main game loop

Now this might seam okay if your talking about the simple example above but some of my games have tens or even HUNDREDS of objects that interact in this basic way. Is there a way in OOP to do the following... for each thing that inherits from clsSpaceEntity check against every other object that inherits this type (except itself) and if they collide then reduce health next? This sort of ability for a type of objects/class or whatever to be 'aware' of another and how they are the same/different and interact would save me tonnes and tonnes and TONNES of coding.
I got a piece of code that I have to use as a class. It gets added to the project every time, the accessed from the code of the forms.
It is for ethernet communication to an industrial radio.
So right now it's a just a class called MK

Is it possible to compile a class into a DLL which then can be just referenced to each application?

The &H30D? i know its a hexadecimal value and may represent a message but i cant find anything about why someone would need to use one, and not just "As Integer = 703". I've found nothing in the VB.NET library or windows messages/functions docs.

On 'normal' windows programs there is a way to externally control a program and its contents. But on a page loaded in a webbrowser i can't find a way to get external control of its contents and buttons ect..
