Struct Used - Serialport.write() But Have To Use Byte[] In BeginSend() Network Tcp Programming ?
Dec 7, 2009I have a basic confusion between serial port and network TCP communication to devices.
My colleague uses a vb struct as the nice easy to read way to create a packet to send out via a serial port. Like this basic code sample below of his vb.net serial call followed at bottom by my c# tcp beginsend network call.
Can I use a struct as well to call out for my TCP network beginsend? By looking at the signature of BeginSend(Byte[] as the beginning of the signature for that method call to send data to a connected socket, I don't see myself being able to use a struct.

The agent based programming creates different agents (people) that each one of them has a distinct attribute (ex: ____, age). So if I have 5 agents, then there maybe male/female and a number assigned to each person. Now I am trying to make some sort of a waypoint system and I thought it would be best to make a small coordinate based map that will act as a birds-eye view of whats going on ingame. But I don't know where to begin creating this thing, since it needs tons of xyz values.Just throwing this in here since I've already made the thread:I also want a small circle to represent the player that will turn, facing waypoint 1 and move in a straight line towards it.

Dec 12, 2011Well this is a re-post now as nobody replied in the gaming section, and i believe this question could go as a normal VB question, therefore I'm asking in this category instead.I have decided to pick up on programming and want to make a text based RPG Game i will "upgrade" as my programming knowledge grows.I got some ideas that i think i should use, but i want you guys' opinions on it.I assume I'll use different classes for each monster, which will have properties.Should those monsters then be inside a list of all possible monsters, or would i have a monster class which i would use and generate the enemies when needed? And would i use the same approach on items and character stats?

Dec 2, 2011All i am trying to do is read and write files to a shared folder on a network in visual basic (VS 2010). I can go to the folder through windows without a problem and without being prompted for a password. However when i try to do it through visual basic, it cant find the directory. Here is my small snippet of code that i (hope) is telling me that the program cannot connect to the folder. [code] Are there any known issues with VS 2010 that may cause this? Maybe something else in my code that could have an effect? This is in my form_load event though, so it is literally one of the first things that runs.

If i use ip addresses, this works fine but i would rather use hostnames due to the ip addresses being dynamic (something which is outside my control). Using the hostname, it reurns "Computer is on" if the ping is successful, but if the hostname cannot be found, instead on returning "Ping request timed out", an error occurs as follows:

Feb 24, 2009I have this VB.Net 1.1 project that I have to make some changes to. There is a flag in the App.config file. If it is false, the page just loads a splash screen and runs the program normally. If it is true it first opens a login window. VB.Net is not something I've ever worked with before. I can't for the life of me figure out where the logic for the picking the startup object is. In the property pages, Main.vb is always set as the startup object, but that's not even the window that loads up when the flag is false, it always comes after the splash screen.
