Anyone else have an issue using read, It appears when I use read it gives me the correct buys but returns the wrong integer value So I use it and it fills the Array i make with &h10, &h6 but read reutnrs number of bytes returned to 1. if there a better way to go with Vb.net with RS232 I mean really my projet dosent have anything out of the Normal

I've got a DataGridview I want to remove columns from as it greatly increases performance when I format the DGV. The first time I remove columns in a loop (using the removeat) property, everythings fine. But when I try to remove more columns in another loop, it appears to remove the wrong columns and displays the wrong data. In other words, it displays the wrong data and headers; and the columns it does show has headers and cells that don't match.

i have a system that will search a data and print it, the problem is that everytime a search the data and shows its result when i try to view it using crystal report it shows a wrong data... the crystal report shows the very last entry that the user added and ignored the previous data.

I have a program that receives serial data from a microcontroller and displays it.If I use windows terminal I get the right data.For some reason my program is not displaying the right data.What is sent is temperature.So the actual data is 24 degreesC and my program is showing 10 degreesC.

I have a ListView that populates and displays a user's data (via a profile system in VWD 2008) during Page_Load and also when I go from the EditItemTemplate to the ItemTemplate. When I go to the edit screen again, my DropDownList and RadioButtonList controls display the first items in the corresponding tables instead of the correct profile values.
I don't understand why the controls populate correctly the first and second times but not on the third time (that's right, the third time is NOT a charm).how to solve this problem?

I got a CRC checksum now and I get a Message in this Format SOH, Length Of Incoming Message, Message, CRC Checksum So I have a nice little look to processes the message and everything, Now I have questions on two events, While this loop is running it awaits for Data on the wire to come through and Checks for the SOH, I always get that but what are the chances of NOT getting a SOH, and if I don't what should I do with the Buffer Dump everything Till I come to another SOH? And on another scenario If two Packets are clashed together in one buffer should I always try to Peek and see if the Next byte after the CRC is a SOH to see if there is more Bytes and an whole another command to start Parsing and then take action?
View 4 RepliesI've been playing around with the TCP client/server sample code I found on [URL] but I can't seem to get it to function correctly. The problem I am having is that if I try to send data from the client a second time I get nothing back, not even an error that it couldn't send data. Every time I run the project it works the first time but that's it. When I was running the code line by line it seems to get to 'networkStream.Read(bytes, 0, CInt(tcpClient.ReceiveBufferSize))' and then it jumps over the rest of the routine.

I am using VB2008 Express and am curious how to send a command via RS232 communications. The string that I need to send is 02h PON 03h. The start and end bits are 02h and 03h.
How can I convert 02h and 03h to its ascii form. In hyperterminal, I use the sequence {(hold)ALT 0 0 2} on the number pad to send the start bit.

I am using VB.NET and I am designing a generic network architecture in which data can be transmitted in various ways. I am wanting to strip down things as much as possible, and I do not want to transmit in plain text. My question today is regarding ideas and example code (if applicable) as far as parsing binary data that is sent over the wire in VB.NET.I want each packet to have a very generic architecture such as <packet type> <address> <payload> or whatnot. I understand that I can use certain bytes as delimiters for these packet fields. I don't necessarily want to serialize everything being that for security reasons, the same library has to be used to deserialize the data.
a) Put my protocol into binary data where each field is delimited using a certain byte
b) Parse that data from binary at the other end.
Once again, I don't want to use plaintext since this can cause a bunch of overhead in comparison.
I am trying to recieve HEX data from a seriall device. Code is as below . but the required output is not correct. Some chracter code are not correct even in decimal. like for 80 i recieved 3F and for c0 also. for example i recived a string .

I am writing a small application to see what data I am sending and receiving to my COM port (for a small hardware project based on url..).The problem I want to activate a "Serialread" or "SerialWrite" procedure as soon as data is waiting in the receive or send buffer.I have some basic skills so before I start digging in I would like to get some advice. Can I use a addhandler (I have read something about this on the internet but have to clue how to use it) or something else? Is there a way to check if data is in the buffer ready to be read or write??

The problem is that for some columns it sets the data type to be Double even though the spreadsheet column format is "Text" and teh column contains non-numeric data. Then when it gets to that cell it returns DBNull instead of the text value.
I want to create a program that will keep track of the amount of (network/internet download) data that has been received, but I have know idea how to go about doing it.Where would be a good place to start with this type of development? However as a RS232 interface I cant get the same result? Hyper terminal reads it perfectly. I've tried all the keypress options but it doesnt work (I assume because it's not actually a key press). when the textbox recieves the CR/LF from RS232? The scanner that does keyboard wedge interfacing is not an option as it is far too expensive for my project.
When you Use Socket.Send Ether in VB6 with the Winsock control or Vb.Net sockets / Windows API does it generate that if you send "Hello" that on the other side it will get the Full Message Before the Data Arrival event is triggered??Or is it possible it can get it in two Different events like "He" & "llo" and a Last question, TCP is stream oriented, is there a Protocol that is Message Oriented but is wrapped with TCP, if not what is a good Delimitor to use with TCP, Usually ide use &H1 OR &H0 but I assume &H0 is common.. or Should I just add a Length Param before each Packet I send..?Now if thats the case and I got the Delimitor route... BUT the issue lies as it thinking that only the 3 of 4 of the incomming file Frames are getting Recv due to it not knowing which frames are for which. Mainly due to me sending a big burst and on the other side recving random chunk sizes on the other side.Edit: Got another question, If I send two bytes across the internet via TCP, will they ever arrive as two different I belive the term is Frame or is that only when they exceide the size of the MTU will the Message be Split. The reason why is if I send a Header saying SOH, Length Of Message(2Bytes), thats 3 bytes can I say 100% of the time the computer on the otherend will recv that all at once so I can parse it? And What ever happen to Flush for Winsock?

View 8 RepliesI m into automation development of FMCG products using Micro-controllers. I get real time data Barcode 2D from TCP/IP connection. My task is to compare the result do some Computation with them and Store the incoming Barcode and results into a Excel sheet in a folder. I m successful with the basic working. Am currently working at slow speed of 1 barcode(22 char info) per second from the TCP/IP data (barcode scanner). Now, comes the real issue. I need to process atleast 5 barcodes per sec ( <200ms per process). I m partially successful with 3 Barcode per second(300 ms per process). so, thats like 300ms per processing. I need to achieve less than 200ms for entire processing. I have used threads and timers. but I m unable to achieve. Seems like storing in Excel takes more than 250ms. Since i come from micro controllers background 1msec is a lotta time to process for me. I m not sure how much time does it take and trust me i find it difficult to guage the time here.
View 1 RepliesI have created a Client that can send and receive data via TCP sockets. The objects stored on the serverside are the *exact* same object used for the client. They use the same send and receive protocols.
Now, when i send a string from the server to the client , it does precisely what it should do. However when I send a string to the server.... I do receive the string as an equal length of NULL characters. I run the server and client locally.
Basicly what can influence the behaviour between two completely identical objects performing the exact same task? I wonder if there is some socketflag issue if the TCPlistener.accept function returns a completely different setup then the one I R used to.

I've been looking for some programming languages, and I've read about the basics of Python and C++, but I'm more interested in Visual Basic But! Everywhere I look, I only find tutorials about how to use MS's Visual Basic Express and stuff, not how to code, not tutorials about the code syntax, how to declare variables and these essential things.Does anyone here has a good tip about learning the basics of VB? And not how to use VB Express/Full edition I can insert a new button but I have no idea on how to make it work, what's the point of it?
EDIT: Oh and another thing.I was playing around VB, creating a simple user interface with buttons, and I've noticed that the code doesn't change when I update the button's or other objects' Name property in the Designer window... shouldn't the code update itself with the new objects names?

I am making kind of like a login form, except a little more complicated. Right now I have an SQL Database that stores the login information. My question is, how do I add stuff to the existing tables?
