Comparison - 4 String Lists - Compare The Contents Of The Input List - Containing Words
May 31, 2009I have 4 string lists as follows
Dim input_list As New List(Of String) Dim input_POS As New List(Of String) Dim trigger_list As New List(Of String) Dim trigger_POS As New List(Of String)
I want to compare the contents of the input list (containing words (e.g., want, the) etc. to the ones of the trigger list (containign again words) and if a same entry (i.e. word) get the POS for both input word and trigger word from the relevant lists and put them into a property list. For example
input list (want, the, right)trigger list(want, there, wait)input list POS (verb, article, adjective)trigger list POS (verb, pronoun, verb)
Output property list (want:verb, want:verb) (only want is common between input and trigger list). Then I need to conduct a test between the two property items for similarites. If they are exactly the same, the code should output a confirmation "i.e., Yes" into a textbox. If not the code should output a "No" plus the contents of the property list into a textbox.
Compare What You Type Into A Textbox To A Randomly Generated Password?
May 8, 2012I am setting up a game for my final visual basic program in my computer programming class, and it is supposed to compare what you type into a textbox to a randomly generated password, and then return whether the last character you entered had a higher, lower or the exact same ascii value as the corresponding character in the randomly generated password. Well, in order to test it, I set up labels to compare the two characters... when you type in ALT + 125, the ascii value returns 125, as it should, and it says that the ascii value of the correct character is 142. I typed in ALT + 142, and the character's ascii value, according to what the label puts out, is 196... obviously its converting dec into hex or oct or something... but how do I fix it?I can also tell you that when I typed in 196 to see if it was reversed or something stupid like that, it printed that the ascii value was 49... what's up with that?!

Multiple File Upload With Input Areas Dynamically Generated
May 28, 2009I want to create a form where the user can upload as many images as they like with the input areas being dynamically generated. I can't use Ajax for this I need to use ASP.NET controls and the images are being written to a database. Any ASP.NET control that can accomplish this? Here is my code for the dynamic form, its Javascript and its not passing the "PictureSmallLink" value back...and their in lies my problem.

Dec 31, 2009so here is my scenario. I have two input files... both are plain text files. File1 has customer name, customer address and invoice number. File2 has customer name, customer address, invoice number AND a keyline. File1 will only contain some of the records in File2, and it will change daily. I need to be able to compare File1 against File2 and output one file (preferably an Excel spreadsheet) with the info from File1 and the keyline from File2, that matches the duplicated info. I know the basics to get it to work, but I'm not sure what would be the easiest way of doing this... File2 can have up to 100,000 records per day. I'd only need to run it once a day though.

Sep 26, 2011`I want to encode my string using .net and pass it to a java program. I am using the same program for encryption and decryption on both the sides. But the java program and .net programs are returning different MD5 hash codes.Here are the codes for both my programs :

The problem is that m.digest() from java and oHash from vb.net are different. So i cant go further with DES encryption.

Pass Arrays Hashes To VBA Via COM?
May 6, 2012I am currently trying to pass an array of objects as a result to VBA but Excel is complaining the following:
'Function or interface marked as restricted, or the function uses an automation type not supported in Visual Basic.'
I have looked around on the internet and have seen similar issues but not to one I am trying to do.
My function is declared as follows:

VBA is complaining about the System.Objects my question is how the heck are you supposed to pass and return arrays from .NET to VBA. Also the data that will be in the ArrayRes() is mixed type, its not just strings etc, its an array of arrays that can contain strings, integers doubles etc.
I chose VB .NET because I assumed it would be possible to map to VBA easier.
One last thing, if System.Object and Arrays in VB .NET is not the way, ie maybe theres another way via collections or lists, then Im open to that. I just need to get this data into VBA. Also I could move over to C# if needs be.

Apr 9, 2010I have this string that shall come in from another file. The string has maximum length of 102 digits. I need to compare the string with numbers in a pair and delete those from that string.
e.g - 6125223659587412563265... till 102
numbers that compare with this string-
first set - 61
new string = 25223659587412563265
second set - 36
new string = 252259587412563265
and so on. the set of numbers shall go to maximum of 51 pairs = 102, which shall give an end result of string = "" How can i achieve this in a loop?
this is not answer, this is editing the question. i dont know why but the edit button just vaniashed so i have to edit question here. No duplicates will ever be in this string. and in the end when compares are done, i want to see what numbers are left in pairs.

and "OULJYSA" to be macthed with the patern, as u see A is common, so in that case it should display msgbox("match found") is there any way to do it? i did it in php using regex and preg_match()

My question is whenever I compare "alt+ctrl+w" with "alt+ctrl+W" it tells me that both the strings are the same, but as you can see that both of these strings are not equal because it got small 'w' and the other one is 'W', how come both of these strings are equal?

May 18, 2012I am making a question and answer game, and I would like to be able to give the user some slack in the answers if they were to misspell a word by a letter or two, like if the answers was Jumps and they type Jump if you did a comparison of them like If string1 = sring2 then do whatever, but obliviously those to string dont match, so it would return false, even though it is the right answer, I came up with this routine to compare two words and if the percentage of the letters are higher then 82 % right it will give you credit for your answer.

Compare String Values From Database?

VersionID Version
VersionID is a bigint primary key, version is a ntext column that holds the current version... I want to be able to pick the row that has the highest version number, but version could be in this format:
MyApplication 1.0.1
If I try to convert that to a int32 it will throw an exception obviously. I would like to know if some of you have a idea how to solve this issue. I could of course make sure the column will only contain numeric values but this gives a little more flexibility.

The ignoreCase and CompareOptions arguments of String.Compare are ignored by LINQ-to-SQL (if you're using a case-sensitive database, you get a case-sensitive comparison even if you ask for a case-insensitive comparison). Is ToLower or ToUpper the best option here? Is one better than the other? I thought I read somewhere that ToUpper was better, but I don't know if that applies here. (I'm doing a lot of code reviews and everyone is using ToLower.)

The I realized that it won't work properly. If I have ABCD as a normal and A*CD as my wildcard string the match will work even if my normal string was CDAB, which is not what I want.
