Compare A Full String To One Containing Wildcard Characters?

I have a method that takes 2 string arguments. One that contains a normal string and one that contains a string with one or more wildcard characters. I've tried the following code:
Private Function DoesMatchWildcardString(ByVal fullString As String, ByVal wildcardString As String) As Boolean
Dim stringParts() As String
Dim matches As Boolean = True

The I realized that it won't work properly. If I have ABCD as a normal and A*CD as my wildcard string the match will work even if my normal string was CDAB, which is not what I want.

I want a string search/compare with wildcard. I'm trying to create a "crypto crossword" application and got most of the code working but the wildcard thing was harder than I thought.
Basically I want the program to compare if "H**LO" is equal to "HELLO" (true). But "HE*" is NOT equal to "HELLO". I tried with regex but the number of wildcard is different each time and in different places so I never managed to make it work.

What I want to do is to replace lets say ##test## with Something(test)..I know that I can find ##test## by: (Though don't know whether there's a smarter way)
System.Text.RegularExpressions.Regex.Replace(str, "##Test.*##", "Output")
So basically the problem is to get what the wildcard (.*) is, since thats really what I need to know..

Not sure if too many people know this, but the following line will cause an error:
GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_"
....if the length of GroupName is less than 3 characters. I always thought it would simply return whatever characters in GroupName, but no, it errors. I must be thinking of the old VB6 days.So, I now have to change the code to:
If (GroupName.Length > 2) Then
If (GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_") Then
Note that the two comparisons need to be on separate lines. If they are on the same line, such as:
If (GroupName.Length > 2) and (GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_") Then then the code will still fail as the length command is executed at the same time as the substring command- which will cause the error when the GroupName length is less than 3.Just thought that those of us not aware of this should be!

I have written a program that uses an array of the english alphabet and Morse code. I also built a form with a input box for the alphabetic information and an output box with the Morse Code. What i am trying to do is basically type a word like "Hi" in the input box and produce the Morse Code equivalent in the Morse Code output box. [Code] This works but only one letter at a time. Do i need to Parse the string of characters one at a time, and then run it through a loop like i have created?

In my project I need to use a 190 very long strings with different number of characters (4-60).I want to mark them in a short form with the numbers 001, 002, 003 ... 190. I have a project which has a table with a list of stores. Originally the store code was a string of 3 and was padded so 1 would be 001 etc. I have had to increase this column to 8. The problem is when I read in data from a XML file the store code is padded so it looks like this '500 ' rather than '500'. This is now causing a major problem when I do a comparison.Is there a way to it does not auto pad to the full string length?

I am trying to log the contents of an object to a text file. If I do a debug.print of the object itself in the immediate window, it prints all of the values of the object's properties:

However, I can't seem to access this as a string in code due to a type mismatch. I assumed I could get this information using the .ToString method, but all that returns is the object description with none of the properties or values:

I have made quite a nice and tidy little game. Its based around space invaders and works quite well. however because i have finished my college project almost 2 weeks ahead of the assignments release date, my tutor has asked me to tweak my project and make it better.So far i have added a full main menu to the game and a full splash screen. I have this string that shall come in from another file. The string has maximum length of 102 digits. I need to compare the string with numbers in a pair and delete those from that string.
e.g - 6125223659587412563265... till 102
numbers that compare with this string-
first set - 61
new string = 25223659587412563265
second set - 36
new string = 252259587412563265
and so on. the set of numbers shall go to maximum of 51 pairs = 102, which shall give an end result of string = "" How can i achieve this in a loop?
this is not answer, this is editing the question. i dont know why but the edit button just vaniashed so i have to edit question here. No duplicates will ever be in this string. and in the end when compares are done, i want to see what numbers are left in pairs.

i want to compare each character is string with the pattern and if any character matches it should give error.. eg, i have "ABCDEF" as patern to matched with.
and "OULJYSA" to be macthed with the patern, as u see A is common, so in that case it should display msgbox("match found") is there any way to do it? i did it in php using regex and preg_match()

My question is whenever I compare "alt+ctrl+w" with "alt+ctrl+W" it tells me that both the strings are the same, but as you can see that both of these strings are not equal because it got small 'w' and the other one is 'W', how come both of these strings are equal?

I thought I was done with the tree view control until i realised that my tree view control was behaving differently when it came to sub nodes . I have attached my treeview pic and also a sample tree view.

Since I clicked on subfolder1 i was expecting the msgbox to display D:Folder1Subfolder1 but unfortunately the msg box doesnto even have the name of the node i clicked on but when i use selectednode.text I get the correct node text. Anyways why isnt my full path working. I then tried manually designing the entire scenario using tree node editor and the code which i mentioned above works. But whenever i populate the trr programatically the above problem starts.

I am making a question and answer game, and I would like to be able to give the user some slack in the answers if they were to misspell a word by a letter or two, like if the answers was Jumps and they type Jump if you did a comparison of them like If string1 = sring2 then do whatever, but obliviously those to string dont match, so it would return false, even though it is the right answer, I came up with this routine to compare two words and if the percentage of the letters are higher then 82 % right it will give you credit for your answer.

I have a tblVersion that contains the versions of my application:
VersionID Version
VersionID is a bigint primary key, version is a ntext column that holds the current version... I want to be able to pick the row that has the highest version number, but version could be in this format:
MyApplication 1.0.1
If I try to convert that to a int32 it will throw an exception obviously. I would like to know if some of you have a idea how to solve this issue. I could of course make sure the column will only contain numeric values but this gives a little more flexibility.
