Display The Full Name Of The String While Choosing A Short Name ?

Nov 3, 2011

In my project I need to use a 190 very long strings with different number of characters (4-60).I want to mark them in a short form with the numbers 001, 002, 003 ... 190. Is there an easy way to display the full name of the string when I choose a short name ? Of course, I do not want to write 190 times "if - end if" and also I would like to avoid a complicated database. Onenew Visual Studio 2010

Visual Studio 2010 - Choosing Which Full-form GroupBox Displays In Designer

Apr 28, 2011

I've inherited a large Visual Basic project that has a number of "frames" (obviously, it came from Visual Basic 6.0) which are now GroupBoxes. They all cover the entire form. The program chooses which one to display during execution. That all works fine.

Is there a way to switch between them for display in Visual Studio designer? Now it's displaying only the last one added, and I have to go to the code rather than Toolbox to make changes to all the ones behind the top one.

SHGetFileInfo Returning 4 Letters Short On Display Name?

May 23, 2010

I am using the SHGetFileInfo function to get the name of folders etc. The reason that I use it, is because it also has to get the name when copying a drive, so it returns "Local Disk (C:)" instead of "C:".This worked, up until recently, I cannot remember what I changed! Suddenly, it's always missing the first 4 letters! Like, "Local Disk (C:)" becomes "l Disk (C:)".

I'm on Windows 7, and it works just fine on Windows XP. Here's my

<DllImport("shell32.dll")> Private Function SHGetFileInfo(ByVal pszPath As String, ByVal dwFileAttributes As UInteger, ByRef psfi As SHFILEINFO, ByVal cbSizeFileInfo As UInteger, ByVal uFlags As UInteger) As IntPtr
End Function

[code]....

I also made a test project with the EXACT same code, and it did work...

VS 2010 Converting String To Short?

Jan 5, 2011

Working on a Sudoku program and I want to read a puzzle in from a file. So, I read the file in as a string in the form --3-2--1- and so on, where - means nothing starts in that cell. How do you convert a string to a short? I found the cshort function but it doesn't seem to work. Is there a different way or am I making some other mistake?

SudokuPuzzle is a string where I read in the file. squareValue(i,j) is the number is the ith row, jth column position of a correct solution I used 1 to 9, 1 to 9 as the indices for my puzzle (and just ignore the 0, though I did Dim as (0 to 9, 0 to 9)), so that is why I have the i - 1 and j - 1 in there.

For i = 1 To 9
For j = 1 To 9
If SudokuPuzzle.Substring(9 * (i - 1) + j - 1) <> "-" Then
squareValue(i, j) = CShort(SudokuPuzzle.Substring(9 * (i - 1) + j - 1))
End If
Next

VS 2010 - ListView Display (Full Row Selection Appearance)

Oct 13, 2011

I have a form with a listview on it. Listviews are very versatile beasts with all kinds of odd options to them, so I'm not sure if this is working the only way that it can, or not. The issue is that when I select one of the items in the listview, only one column (of two) is highlighted. I'd prefer a selection appearance similar to using a DataGridView where the whole row is highlighted. Of course, one option would be just to switch to a DGV, but that would require a bit more code to get the column widths right. So my question is whether there is some setting to get what looks like full row selection appearance in a multiselect ListView?

Compare A Full String To One Containing Wildcard Characters?

Private Function DoesMatchWildcardString(ByVal fullString As String, ByVal wildcardString As String) As Boolean
Dim stringParts() As String
Dim matches As Boolean = True

The I realized that it won't work properly. If I have ABCD as a normal and A*CD as my wildcard string the match will work even if my normal string was CDAB, which is not what I want.

VS 2005 Is There A Way To It Does Not Auto Pad To Full String Length

Nov 26, 2010

I have a project which has a table with a list of stores. Originally the store code was a string of 3 and was padded so 1 would be 001 etc. I have had to increase this column to 8. The problem is when I read in data from a XML file the store code is padded so it looks like this '500 ' rather than '500'. This is now causing a major problem when I do a comparison. Is there a way to it does not auto pad to the full string length?

Direct Access To Full String Representation Of Object

Jan 23, 2012

?mDb.DatabaseOptions
{Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.DatabaseOptions}
AnsiNullDefault: False
...
UserData: Nothing

However, I can't seem to access this as a string in code due to a type mismatch. I assumed I could get this information using the .ToString method, but all that returns is the object description with none of the properties or values:

?mDb.DatabaseOptions.ToString
"Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.DatabaseOptions"

VS 2005 Tree View Full Path Function Gives Invalid String

Oct 3, 2009

I thought I was done with the tree view control until i realised that my tree view control was behaving differently when it came to sub nodes . I have attached my treeview pic and also a sample tree view.

(-)D:
|_config.msi
|_netfile.sys

[Code]....

Since I clicked on subfolder1 i was expecting the msgbox to display D:Folder1Subfolder1 but unfortunately the msg box doesnto even have the name of the node i clicked on but when i use selectednode.text I get the correct node text. Anyways why isnt my full path working. I then tried manually designing the entire scenario using tree node editor and the code which i mentioned above works. But whenever i populate the trr programatically the above problem starts.

Choosing A Row In ListView?

Nov 17, 2010

how to get different backcolors and how to change them using ListView.ItemCheck.

I am using ListView in a self written control (basically to improve padding). In some deployments, CheckBoxes is set to true and I use a RaiseEvent to return the Index of the row selected using an ListView_SelectedIndexChanged event.

In other deployments, I am using the control with the CheckBoxes set to false. But clicking on a row does not fire the ListView_SelectedIndexChanged event to be able to use RaiseEvent to return the Index of the row chosen. I have tried using a MouseUp event to capture the mouse Y coordinate. But conversion of that coordinate to an Index position is both inconsistent and inaccurate with my primative code of

return = (point.Y - me.top) / some constant

I have used ItemHeight on a ListBox in a similar situation but ListView does not have an ItemHeight property.

how I can capture the Index of a row clicked in a ListView without checkboxes?
