I've been passed a solution that has a vb.Net 2.0 project that references to a .Net 3.5 library. The library compiles with out problem but the vb project does not. It complains of missing objects which are in the library which are correctly added in the imports. Also I see a yellow yield sign next to the reference library also when I add the reference it complains of the framework version difference. Any help is apritiated. Also I'm using VS10. Imported the projects with no errors. A colleague has this working on VS9.
View 1 RepliesOnce time, me needed to compile the library with different code inside class which determined with prroject wich inherits this library At first I tried in project declare #const and in library to use condition with #const,

VB.net newbie question: I am writing a number of console applications, all of which need to use a set of common functions and subroutines that are compiled directly into the applications, not into a separate DLL.
I assume that each separate console application needs to be a separate project, and that the commonly used functions and subroutines need to be in a separate module, but how can such a module be shared between multiple projects so that only one copy of the shared module and its code is required, without creating a separate DLL?
My basic goal here is writing a .NET remake of Kingdom of Kroz. For those not familiar with the game:

Originally it was supposed to be a quick distraction project to give me a break from all the generic enterprise WCF/WF/LINQ2SQL/etc work projects occupying most of my time lately. While the result of my effort is playable, it looks like absolute arse (even for a console-based game) because of the way I'm redrawing everything in each frame.
I'm aware of some alternate approaches but in the brief tests I've done they still don't offer significant performance or aesthetic benefits. I almost can't believe I'm asking this, but... does anyone know of a fast and efficient "console graphics" library for VB.Net / C#?
Edit: failing the availability of a "library" as such, perhaps there's a reference for fast console drawing/update techniques?
My project has 2 forms, is it possible for the program (at runtime) to compile the 2nd form and make a EXE out of it?

View 3 RepliesI have a Linq-to-SQL class diagram in my web application containing the two tables in my database (held in a DBPro database project in the same solution). All was working fine yesterday. I start doing some work tonight and note that the solution compiles fine in Visual Studio, but when I run the web app I get a compilation error:
Description: An error occurred during the compilation of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific error details and modify your source code appropriately.

I wanted to get the Console which i access with Start > Run > Cmd in to my Form.
What i want to do then:
Well the thing i want to do is run a Perl-Script but it should copy the thing that the Perl script answers after running in to a Richtextbox so it doesent even have to be a CMD in my Form but it should copy the answer in to my Richtextbox after doing it with:
Shell()
I have trouble to control my form using with the class library. I am trying to set the form to maximum and set the form border to none. There is an error in come to the end of the statement next to the test.myform.[code]The error I have received is Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
View 6 RepliesI have a Windows Form application compiled to a .exe that contains standard classes and one windows form class. I would like to reference that .exe in another project. The dialog to add references shows .exe, I add the file to my project, I can see the classes from that file but when I run the second executable I get a "cannot load type" error when I try to access the classes contained in the referenced .exe
That behavior seems strange to me since the IDE accept the .exe as a reference and even "intelisenses" its classes.
I do this because I want a standalone version of the form, but I also reuse it in other project. Am I doing it wrong, what's the best practice in my scenario? I'd rather not maintain both a Class Library project and a Windows Form project that includes the same code.
I have a .net class library with a com class that calls a form. I want to to SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault(false) to ensure the form fonts look nice.
If I run the command in the class constructor I get the following error:
SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault must be called before the first IWin32Window object is created in the application.
Edit1: To clarify, I get this error when initiating the class from a .net test harness, if I call it from a VB6 app then I simply get "Automation Error"
Edit2: Is the answer that I cannot use SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault in a com class when calling from a vb6 app?? Maybe it's the "parent" app that needs to call this method and as such a vb6 app cannot?
how can I make the fonts look nice in a .net class library form called from a vb6 app?
I have a simple console app that has various command line args. I'm running the app as a different user so I cannot use the CreateNoWindow property. How can I add a winform progress bar? My thought would be that when you use a specific command line arg it would launch the winform progress bar and not the console window, but with other command line args they would operate as normal in the console window.

View 4 RepliesI need to write a windows application that accepts parameters, so I guess the best way to do this is console applications. But I have one question, in my console application startup module I use the following code to show the form that I designed, but the application does not recognize Application.Run command. I tried adding the required dlls , but no luck. Is there any other way to show my form?
Dim frm As New Form1
Application.Run(frm)

im trying to write a Form app that actually uses the program. However it doesn't seem to be doing anything. I have it to change a few settings but it doesn't do anyhting. I made it beep by using System.Console.Beep so i know its activating the function. Here is what i have.
Private Sub graphics_1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles graphics_1.Click
System.Console.Write("netsh interface ip set address name=""Local Area

It doesnt appear to do any of that! is there a way that i can view the console it is writting to to see whats going on?
I am working on an application that needs to have both a command-line AND windows form interface. I have designed the form, and written a basic console app. The issue comes when I try to display the GUI, as the application is a Console project in VS2008. I do the following:
Dim Apply As Boolean = False
Dim Check As Boolean = False
' Snip.
[Code]....
And the GUI flashes for a second, but then goes away. How do I make the GUI stay up, and wait for input?
I am attempted to write a small asynchronous socket library that I can use to create a client/server application. I can get all of the code to run fine if I leave it in the form, however if I try to move it out into its own class, I cannot figure out how to update the form with connection status, things like that. Below is code, shortened a bit just to make this easier to read and type.
[Code]....
There is actually more to that class, but I never get anything after the first message goes out. I'm not sure where to go from here. I've tried lots of different methods that I've found on the google searches, some from here, some not.

View 4 RepliesMy app is basically console based but I need a Form to run in background. Adding a form in the app works but using Form1.Show didn't work, so I used VB.NET Application.Run(New Form1) However, in Form1_Load Me.Hide didn't work. I have no idea why. It works in buttons or other components in the same form.
