C# - Finding Any Console "graphics" Library For .Net?

Oct 21, 2010

My basic goal here is writing a .NET remake of Kingdom of Kroz. For those not familiar with the game:

[URL]

Originally it was supposed to be a quick distraction project to give me a break from all the generic enterprise WCF/WF/LINQ2SQL/etc work projects occupying most of my time lately. While the result of my effort is playable, it looks like absolute arse (even for a console-based game) because of the way I'm redrawing everything in each frame.

I'm aware of some alternate approaches but in the brief tests I've done they still don't offer significant performance or aesthetic benefits. I almost can't believe I'm asking this, but... does anyone know of a fast and efficient "console graphics" library for VB.Net / C#?

Edit: failing the availability of a "library" as such, perhaps there's a reference for fast console drawing/update techniques?

C# - Finding A Free SQL Formatting Library For .NET?

Jul 26, 2010

I've been looking for a free library/source code to format SQL queries, preferably in .NET, for quite a while. Even after searching some of the responses here on SO, I'm almost at the point where I'm willing to believe that nothing like this exists. The closest thing I've found, a project called sqlformat, does not seem to be active, nor does it really even support a workable subset of SQLs features for formatting.Are there any free or open source SQL formatting libraries out there? I don't want a canned product, as I need to integrate this functionality into a tool I'm building. Web services aren't acceptable either, since the ones I have found like T-SQL Tidy haven't proven to be very reliable.

Shared Subroutine Library For Console Applications?

Sep 29, 2009

VB.net newbie question: I am writing a number of console applications, all of which need to use a set of common functions and subroutines that are compiled directly into the applications, not into a separate DLL.

I assume that each separate console application needs to be a separate project, and that the commonly used functions and subroutines need to be in a separate module, but how can such a module be shared between multiple projects so that only one copy of the shared module and its code is required, without creating a separate DLL?

Interface And Graphics :: Draw A Circle On The Console?

Feb 28, 2012

I am trying to draw a circle on the visual basic console. I have been told that the console is not made for this but i have to use it.

What I want to do is a circle with:

Centre (40,20)
Radius = 10

I know from basic trig that the following will give me the points on the circle:

x= (10 x CosA)+40
y=(10 x SinA) +20
(A) being an angle in radians.

Then combine x & y that will give me a point on the circle.

I want to use the '' Sets the cursor position

Console.SetCursorPosition(x, y)
Console.Write(".") "

To print a point(.) on the given position from the formulas above.

Now heres my question how do I get Visual Basic too calculate:

x= (10 x CosA)+40
y=(10 x SinA) +20

360 times i.e 0rad-2Pirad and then pass the x & y [(x,y)] point to my cursor position code so that a '.' is printed at that position. I.e I will end up with a circle made out of 360 '.'

I would asume that a loop is used and also an array to store the 360 Pi values. I'm finding it extremely hard to even get Vb to calculate the Cos of an angle.

C# - In A .NET Console App, Have A Line Of Text Stay Visible In The Console All The Time?

Jun 1, 2011

I was thinking of adding a simple bandwidth monitor to a console application and I was wondering if it would be possible to keep a line in the console window visible at all times. I could set something up manually to pass new console output into a method that would get the contents of the console, clear the console, add the bandwidth data on the first row, then rewrite each line of previous information back to the console, etc.. but that seems like a really hacky way to go about it, and I'd be limited to the amount of rows visible at once in the console window (no scrolling).

Rendering Graphics Efficiently - DirectX - Graphics Card And Use Of DirectDraw Or OpenGL

Sep 23, 2011

We have a GIS application that has some performance issues. It creates and sends an image to a web browser. We start with a Bing Maps imager, add complex polygons (complete with transparent fill), save the finished image as a PNG, and send it to the browser.

The idea has come up that we could possibly install a graphics card and use DirectX or OpenGL to improve performance. I believe this would be the case even though we ultimately generate an image instead of sending the data the the screen. I believe our processes could still make use of the API and the hardware acceleration it provides. Our process is not unlike what CGI film makers do to render individuals frames of a film, though we simply render a single image and send it, as opposed to the hundreds of thousands of images needed for a single CGI film.

So my question is: would a powerful graphics card and use of DirectDraw or OpenGL provide us a worthwhile performance boost? It can take us 20-30 seconds to render a more complex map. Which is a long time to wait on a web page...

Send ASCII 0-255 From One Console To Another Console?

I am trying to send/print/write all possible ASCII codes (0-255) to another console-window application. From my application I would enter the name of the "receiving" application and the comma seperated hex values that should be sent/print/written to it. I have used AppActivate to select the "receiving" application and then have used sendInput and send.sendkeys to attempt to send the desired ASCII value. However, these appear to have limitations on values greater than 127. I need to be able to send all 255 values.

Showing Console In Console Application?

How do I get the console from closing immediatley upon opening in a Console Application program? I have all of the code written but when I run the program it pops up the console window and then immediatley exits so I am unable to read what is in the window to see if my program is operating correctly. This is the first time I've ever used a console window so I don't know where in the code I would need to put "whatever it is" I might need to put to keep the window open until closed by the user.

VS 2010 Console Application Without A Console?

Aug 23, 2009

It sounds confusing but it's not really. What I need is basically a way to emulate the console style text, without using a console. What I'm really doing is trying to do a matrix effect on my form background, by drawing symbols and moving them, alternating their colors (see this video for what I mean).

Is there a way to do this effectively with a timer and a draw event, with the timer calling the draw event and changing the intervals?

Interface And Graphics :: Draw On Tabpage's Graphics?

Jan 19, 2011

So I decided to make my famous tile selector project, but instead of drawing in a form's graphics, do it inside a tabpage.Well, I managed to get it working, but it seems to... flicker.Normally, setting the form's DoubleBuffered property to True would help a lot there, but apparently, the tabpage has no such property.

When I invalidate the tabpage, I draw two images and fill one rectangle.Following past advice, those two images were created before, just once, and are stored in a variable so I don't create them every time I invalidate the tabpage.
