Compiling Readings - Timer Dependent Data Average

May 24, 2011

Below is my code. I have a system that provides me voltage readings that changes based on a timer (interval of 300 milliseconds). I want to compile voltage readings for over 5 seconds (but I need the timer reading to remain at 300 ms) and then spit out an average of the THAT data. How do I do this? I was thinking of using datasetvalue but wasn't sure.

Public Class Form1
Private Daqboard As MccDaq.MccBoard = New MccDaq.MccBoard(0)
Private RangeSelected As MccDaq.Range = MccDaq.Range.Bip5Volts
Dim ULStat As MccDaq.ErrorInfo
Dim Channel As Integer = 0, DataValue As System.UInt16, EngVolts As Single

Calculate Average Dependent On Criteria?

Oct 10, 2011

I have a spreadsheet that has two columns (A and B) - Column A contains Month/Year and column B contains sales. I would like a bit of vba that will look in column A to find the month/year then calculate from column B the average sales for that period. So for example:

Date Sales
Jan 11 500.00
Jan 11 250.00
Mar 11 152.00
Apr 11 116.00

So in other words there can be a number of lines with the same date/year and the code will need to identify these and average all sales from column B associated with that particular date. I would like the output to appear in a summary table showing the total average sales for each particular month - perhaps this could be output to a new sheet?

Initialize Graphic Dependent Data?

There are several times in my code when I need to determine the width of some text. Under VB6 I would use the .textwidth() method pretty much any time I wished.Under VB.NET it appears that the paint event is the only place I can gain access to an initialized graphics object and from that the measurestring() method.Do I have to use a flag in the paint event when want to auto-resize my splitterbar position or is there another way?

Dependent Object Will Not Return Data For Extended Fields In TPT

Jul 22, 2011

I am using TPT modeling and writing the EDMX by hand as our data model is much more complex than the designer can support. My model includes a ProjectObject which has a dependent object name Project. When I query ProjectObject.OfType(Project) using Linq to SQL, I receive back data in all the fields that are inherited from ProjectObject, but no data in the fields that only in Project. I have ran a SQL Server Trace and captured the actual SQL and ran it using SSMS and it returns data there, so I am relatively certain the data is being passed back, but it seems to be getting lost somewhere in EF. Everything appears to be ok in my model, but . . .

DB/Reporting :: Include An Average In A Column Where The Average Ignores Zero Values In A Report Cell?

Jun 15, 2010

I want to include an average in a column where the average ignores zero values in a report cell where the column may have

17
19
0

[code].....

I want 16, not 11 so (17 + 19 + 12 + 13 + 19) / 5 not (17 + 19 + 0 + 0 + 12 + 13 + 19) / 7 Something like this if it would work.

=SUM(Fields!fieldname.Value) / Count(iif(Fields!count_cycle_per_hour.Value >= 0,Fields!fieldname.Value,0))

Essentially just average everything in the column NOT a zero?

Compiling Error 'The Value "Ctrl" Can't Be Found' While Compiling VB2008 Imported Project

Feb 15, 2010

In one of my forms witch I imported from VB2008 there are all properties saved in the *.resx file. One Property, of the Type System.Windows.Forms.Keys, can contain the Value 'Ctrl+F1' witch compiles fine in VB2008, but not in VB2010. To reproduce, simply add the following to any resx file:

<data name="cmdFenster.ShortcutKeys" type="System.Windows.Forms.Keys, System.Windows.Forms">
<value>Ctrl+F1</value>
</data>

It will compile fine with VB2008, but not with VB2010. Notice: The VB2010 also generates this Code in the resx file

Calculating Exponential Average With Out A Simple Moving Average

Sep 8, 2009

I'm working on a function to return a exponential average and there are a lot of examples of exponential moving averages but they all start with a moving average that is just the mean as a lead in to calculating the continuing moving average. I needed just a exponential average of a value set. After Googling my Bing off I still haven't seen anything so here is my attempt at a basic exponential average. Is this correct? Are there any errors? I have seen some text about adding a smoothing value to change the curve of the exponential average but not how that would be implemented.

Compiling List Of Data From Notepad To Excel?

Oct 22, 2010

I have a folder of around 200 notepad files with ticket information inside.Essentially, I need to compile a single PDF or Excel spreadsheet from all the information inside the individual notepad files.I don't want to have to open each notepad file, then copy and paste its data manually. I'd prefer to use some sort of loop function that opens each notepad file, extracts the data, and puts it onto an excel or PDF sheet.

Displays The Average With An Appropriate Message Before The Average"?

May 10, 2011

I'm in a computer science class, and we are writing simple programs using Visual Basic 2008. I am really inept when it comes to this, as I have never done it before. I need to write a program that: "Asks the user for 5 numbers and computes the average. It then displays the average with an appropriate message before the average."

I have been really close with this, but I can't get the numbers to add up, then divide by 5, and display a pop up message.

Averaging A Series Of Compass Readings?

Oct 19, 2009

If I have posted this question in the wrong forum, please tell me how to find the correct forum.

I am working on an application that presents the average of a list of compass readings. The readings are wind directions. The problem occurs when the wind is oscillating around North. Some of the readings will be in the 300's, other readings can be 1, 2, 10, etc. degress. (A compass reads from 1 to 360 degress. 360 degrees is the same as 0 degrees.

You can't just average the numbers. For example, if you had two readings, 355 degrees and 5 degrees, just averaging the two results in an answer of 180 degrees. The correct answer is either 360 degrees or 000 degrees.

Most likely I can code data analysis logic to look for the problem, but I am hoping there is a simplier way. Does anybody know the answer?

How To Collect Readings Done After Port Opened

Feb 1, 2011

I'm using the .NET SerialPort class to communicate with gauges. Every time a button on a gauge is pressed a reading value is sent over port. The problem I have is that if the gauge button is pressed while the program is off then when the program starts it fires the data received event for that existing data. I don't want this behavior -- I only want to collect readings done after the port is opened.

port = New SerialPort("COM1", 9600, Parity.None, 8, StopBits.One)
port.Open()
port.DtrEnable = True
System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(100)
port.ReadExisting()
AddHandler port.DataReceived, AddressOf PortDataReceived

If I don't have the Thread.Sleep then the DataReceived event is fired for the previous gauge data. I'm guessing this is because the ReadExisting doesn't block and so when its called immediately after an open it just reads nothing. So if you call 'port.BytesToRead()' immediately after open its zero. If you call it 100ms after open its non-zero. I guess this makes sense -- it takes time after open to read the existing data. Another option is to call read and set the read timeout but that seems no different than Thread.Sleep except you have to catch an exception...

VB Express 2008 - Reading File And Use Data And Average Them Out

Nov 29, 2009

I have a text file that the first part of my program writes data to, but for this second section, I need to read that file and use pieces of that data and average them out. The text file is setup up with 90 lines of data starting with the first 9 lines containing data and the 10th is a blank space. I need to read line 6, 8, and 9. I need to Loop through the file so I am using the Do While Loop. Where I am confused is when using the For...Next Loop to tell the program to read a specific line. If you have any info that can lead me to the answer that would be great. I would prefer you just point me in the right direction because I would very much like to somewhat figure it out in the process.

Error When Version Of A Dependent Application Changes

Jan 19, 2011

I have developed an application in VB.net which uses R Programming language. The library that help connect VB.net to R is called R-DCOM. The application requires the user to install R-Programming language into the user's computer. The application was working all fine until there was a version change in the R-Programming language. The specific libraries involved with this are: Interop.STATCONNECTORCLNTLib.dll, Interop.StatConnectorCommonLib.dll and Interop.STATCONNECTORSRVLib.dll. It also uses StatConnectorClnt.tlb, StatConnectorSrv.exe and StatConnLib.tlb to run the application. Is this something related to "DLL hell". Is there a fix to that I may not have to recompile and install the original code and install them to the user's computer all over again.

Plugin Which Is Dependent On Main Program?

I realized that when I release the API for 3rd party plugin development, someone would be able to create a loader program to replace my main program quite easily. All my main program does is get an icon and a description of the plugin from the DLL plugin (using the interface) and then calls the dll's interface function to create and display the form.
