Convert String To Predefined Variable Name?

I'm programming a basic slot machine in Visual basic, and want to use a for loop to randomly choose the image for each slot, display the image in each slot, and change the slotName variable (so I can check later on which symbols are in the slots) for each slot. The problem I'm finding with a for loop is that the variables and objects for each slot have different names (slot1Name, slot2Name, slot3Name, lblSlot1, lblSlot2, lblSlot3, etc). Is there any way I could have could something like:
currentSlotName = "slot" & i & "Name"
This is the code at the moment, this code is repeated (with different variable and object names), for each of the 3 slots, which is pretty inefficient.

Here's my problem :
Let say I have a variable called A
Which value is 100 ( A = 100)
In a form, I have a textbox, where I want to enter a variable name
textbox1.text="A" for example
Then I want to display the value of that variable
msgbox (somefunction(textbox1.text)), which will popup 100
I read some info about Reflection, but they all seems to refer to controls and not simple variable

I am using the following function to Convert a String variable to a Date. Subtract a day from it and convert the date back to a String. The code goes as follows

If edate has a value 29/12/2011 than the value in expenddt gets changed to a different format and the value in expenddt comes to 12/29/2011 and later after subtracting a day expenddt is 12/28/2011 and than when i convert it back to a String i get the value in asd as "12/28/2012 12:00:00 AM"

I am developing an application which initially allows the user to browse and select a save location. The selected path is assigned to a public variable which is used with concatenation to crate folder for saving user input data. How can I change the path string to a constant so the user can run the program again without having to run setup routine unless they want to change the save location?

I am currently looking into the conversion of a string value to an integer. Obviously I will need to do some validation as to whether the passed value is in fact convertible to an integer.
At the heart of my question is this: the users' local is nl-BE (dutch (Belgium)), which means that we use a comma as decimal sign (and points as thousands separator); e.g. 123.456,78 would be a valid nl-BE number. Now, when using the numeric keypad, the
decimal key will yield a point, not a comma (weird huh!). So many user will enter 123456.12 and when converted to an Int, this should yield 123456.
The thing is that I want to cover all possible angles; both points and commas may be used as decimal sign by the users. So I wondering if anyone has written some code that deals with such a situation. I was thinking of an extension method that makes the
conversion based on whether a point or a comma is last used in the passed string (since no thousands separators should occur after the decimal sign).

Is there an approach to preselect the items in checkedlistbox on formload.
1) I have a form with checkedlistbox
2) items in checkedlistbox are "One" "Two" "Three" "Four"
3) i have a string str="One,Two"
at formload i want these items in the checkedlistbox to be selected.
is there a way other than selecting these item by looping through the items in listedcheckedbox.
i.e., as we can get the selected items by using ".checkeditems" property
i need a way to select the items of checkedlistbox from a string or array in single statement without looping.

1 within each section of a SplitContainer. The left hand side will be for inputing text that is copied/pasted from a word, excell, or text file.The right hand side would be for my output. What I would like it to do is return just the rows from the left hand side that contain a match to any one of the predifined strings. This will be used to search large lists of company names and circuit IDs and return the rows with matching namesSo far I have the form created, the Splitcontainer in place along with the richtextbox on each side and a submit button at the bottom.

I am trying to insert a string variable inside of two strings, and make a combined string. The code below works for the class that I hard coded "XCCustomers" in my RetrieveIDandName method where I use CType. However, I would like to be able to pass in various classes and property names to get the integer and string LIST returned. For example, in my code below, I would like to also pass in "XCEmployees" to my RetrieveIDandName method. I feel so close... I was hoping someone knew how to use CType where I can pass in the class name as a string variable.
Note, all the other examples I have seen and tried fail because we are using Option Strict On which disallows late binding. That is why I need to use CType.I also studied the "Activator.CreateInstance" code examples to try to get the class reference instance by string name but I was unable to get CType to work with that.When I use obj.GetType.Name or obj.GetType.FullName in place of the "XCCustomers" in CType(obj, XCCustomers)(i)I get the error "Type 'obj.GetType.Name' is not defined" or "Type 'obj.GetType.FullName' is not defined"

I have a List(of String()). I have written a custom comparer (implements IComparer(of string)) to do an alphanumeric sort.Is there a way to sort the List using a given index to determine which position in the String() to sort by? In other words one time I might sort by Index = 0 and another time by Index = 3. The length of all String() in the list is the same.For reference this question is similar to Sort List<String[]> except I am using VB.net and that question is hardwired to Index=0.
EDIT from OP's comments:I started simple with the non custom comparer but I am getting an error: expression does not produce a value. Not sure what I am doing wrong.Here is the code:
