I'm programming a basic slot machine in Visual basic, and want to use a for loop to randomly choose the image for each slot, display the image in each slot, and change the slotName variable (so I can check later on which symbols are in the slots) for each slot. The problem I'm finding with a for loop is that the variables and objects for each slot have different names (slot1Name, slot2Name, slot3Name, lblSlot1, lblSlot2, lblSlot3, etc). Is there any way I could have could something like: currentSlotName = "slot" & i & "Name"
This is the code at the moment, this code is repeated (with different variable and object names), for each of the 3 slots, which is pretty inefficient. ' Randomise numbers and assign images to slots based on random numbers, if the hold isn't on ' Slot 1 If Not held1 Then slot1Value = Int(Rnd() * numbersGenerated + 0.5) Select Case slot1Value [Code] .....
I am using the following function to Convert a String variable to a Date. Subtract a day from it and convert the date back to a String. The code goes as follows
[Code]...
If edate has a value 29/12/2011 than the value in expenddt gets changed to a different format and the value in expenddt comes to 12/29/2011 and later after subtracting a day expenddt is 12/28/2011 and than when i convert it back to a String i get the value in asd as "12/28/2012 12:00:00 AM"
I have a string value of form names in my DB so when my condition passes, the variable string will take over the value , then that value will call the form(variable) as string.
I am developing an application which initially allows the user to browse and select a save location. The selected path is assigned to a public variable which is used with concatenation to crate folder for saving user input data. How can I change the path string to a constant so the user can run the program again without having to run setup routine unless they want to change the save location?
I am currently looking into the conversion of a string value to an integer. Obviously I will need to do some validation as to whether the passed value is in fact convertible to an integer.
At the heart of my question is this: the users' local is nl-BE (dutch (Belgium)), which means that we use a comma as decimal sign (and points as thousands separator); e.g. 123.456,78 would be a valid nl-BE number. Now, when using the numeric keypad, the decimal key will yield a point, not a comma (weird huh!). So many user will enter 123456.12 and when converted to an Int, this should yield 123456.
The thing is that I want to cover all possible angles; both points and commas may be used as decimal sign by the users. So I wondering if anyone has written some code that deals with such a situation. I was thinking of an extension method that makes the conversion based on whether a point or a comma is last used in the passed string (since no thousands separators should occur after the decimal sign).
I'm looking for a way to search a string variable for two words and copy the text in between them into another variable. This needs to be done as many times as the match occurs.
i want to get theButton control name from user in a textbox. it means ... every control name that user enter in textbox, the control backcolor will be change.
I am developing an app which allows a user to send emails.I am using a multiline text box for the user to capture data, but when I convert it to a string it does not pick up a new paragraph. How would I insert a <br> & </br> for a new line within a string variable?
To be honest I am fairly new at VB as a language, and I just came across a problem that I can't figure out. I have a feeling it's something simple...but here it goes.I created a set of string variable on my first form as follows:
Dim strpro1 As String = txtpro1.Text Dim strpro2 As String = txtpro2.Text Dim strpro3 As String = txtpro3.Text Dim strpro4 As String = txtpro4.Text Dim strpro5 As String = txtpro5.Text
I set strpro1 as a global variable in my module:Module Module1 Public strpro1
I'm supposed to convert the string in one textbox to binary, and display it as binary, in another textbox. I can make this part work, but when I want to convert it from binary and back to text, it all goes bananas. Here's the code I'm using for the conversion:
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs ) Handles Button1.Click
I'm trying to convert an integer (0 to 255) into a 2-value hex string. For instance, if the integer was 255, the hex string would be "ff", if the integer was 15, the hex string would be "0f". The issue I'm having is trying to keep the leading 0. I've been able to overcome this by using an if statement to determine if the length is less than 2, in which I would concatenate a 0, but this is pretty inefficient I think. Here's my
Dim get_integer as Integer = TextBox1.Text Dim hex_value As String = Convert.ToString(get_integer, 16)
If hex_value.Length < 2 Then hex_value = String.Concat(0, hex_value) End If
how to improve this? I really would like to get away from using the if statement.
could anybody point me in the right direction in regards to the following problem? I have some data that has time and date in form of ordinary string. The format is always the same, for instance:
[Code]...
How can I convert it to time understood by computer and check if given time is in the past of in the future in comparsion to current time on my computer? I would also like to be able to tell how much difference there is between the time from my data file and the current time. For instance to say "this time was 3 hours and 20 mintues ago".
I have a combobox which I want to use to change the font-size of text, but I'm getting an error.
vb.net Dim xfont As New Font(font_cbo.Text, font_cbo_size.Text, FontStyle.Regular, GraphicsUnit.Point)
Conversion to Type Single is invalid So I tried to convert the string to Single, but with the same error. If I replace the "font_cbo_size.Text" to a number, it'll work fine.
I have several sets of similar objects (labels, progress bars) on a form in Visual Basic 2010 on Windows. In my code, I have collections that contain data, which needs to be pushed into the value/text property of each.
I would like to get a solution similar to PHP in that I can assign values somewhat like:
For ID as Integer from 0 to count(collectionExample) lblExample{ID}.Text=collectionExample(variableID)
...and as such to loop through so each of the different lblExample's were updated to their corresponding value.
The issue I have come to is that I cannot seem to reference an object on the form using a variable. I have also tried using something like
CallByName("lblExample" + variableID, "Text", CallType.Set, exampleCollection(variableID))... however I still can't combine the string and variable to reference the object.
Any solutions on referring to objects in VB2010 by combining a string prefix and a variable string identifier, similar to PHP's $variable{$variable} approach?
I'm trying to make a program that can export my schedule into a CSV file to upload on to google calender.I need to extract some text within a textbox control. I'll show you an example. This is the text in the textbox:
I am trying to insert a string variable inside of two strings, and make a combined string. Public Sub Page_Load() Dim Id As String Id = Trim (Request.QueryString("Id")) End Sub Dim mp3text as string url... & Id & ".mp3" My goal is to make the mp3text variable have a string that is: url...(If Id is 7) It is for some reason not connecting up correctly. I checked what string it is outputting and this is what it is giving: url...It is missing the Id content.
Say that i have the following code that parse about 20k records from the DB.
Code #1
vb.net While reader.Read() list.Add(If(Integer.TryParse(reader(0).ToString, 0), Integer.Parse(reader(0).ToString), 0)) End While
And then another code which does the very same thing but it seems to be a little cleaner.
Code #2
vb.net While reader.Read() Dim storeowner As Integer = 0 Integer.TryParse(reader(0).ToString, storeowner) list.Add(storeowner) End While
This is what i am confused about; does the compiler creates a new variable automatically when i use the if statement without strictly declared variable? What approach is better in sense of performance?
The code below works for the class that I hard coded "XCCustomers" in my RetrieveIDandName method where I use CType. However, I would like to be able to pass in various classes and property names to get the integer and string LIST returned. For example, in my code below, I would like to also pass in "XCEmployees" to my RetrieveIDandName method. I feel so close... I was hoping someone knew how to use CType where I can pass in the class name as a string variable.
Note, all the other examples I have seen and tried fail because we are using Option Strict On which disallows late binding. That is why I need to use CType.I also studied the "Activator.CreateInstance" code examples to try to get the class reference instance by string name but I was unable to get CType to work with that. When I use obj.GetType.Name or obj.GetType.FullName in place of the "XCCustomers" in CType(obj, XCCustomers)(i)I get the error "Type 'obj.GetType.Name' is not defined" or "Type 'obj.GetType.FullName' is not defined"
These is the content of my txt file which is saved in D drive in my pc abc,1,2,3..I tried the flowing but it didn't work:[code]I am getting error on this line.. data = line.Split(","c)...it says this line isn't in use anymore or something and that I rather use LineInput but thats asks for filenumber and i don't know what that is. I am sorry but I am a complete beginner. what else can I try? [code]ok that error is gone now but now if I want to add these values to a list box..how can i do that?
