I am writing a simple GUI for a 7-Zip command that will zip multiple directories, with two files in the working directory, to their own separate archives. The problem is that I have no idea on how to count the number if directories (only directories and not files) and find the name of just the first directory. Here is what I have so far:

I need to count the number of records that match on the GIDs from the 'Directories' table (GID) and the 'ClientSubscriptions' table (DirectoryGID), and also the 'FranchiseGID' from both; as follows:
Dim iSubscriptionCount
SQLCommand = "SELECT COUNT(*) AS Counter FROM Directories.GID, ClientSubscriptons.DirectoryGID FROM Directories, ClientSubscriptons WHERE Directories.GID = ClientSubscriptons.DirectoryGID;"

I need to determine whether or not to show a menu option based on the above.

I have a program that uses the Folder Browser Dialog... I am currently using it to GetFiles and list them in a list box... Currently, it searches directories and subdirectories to get files with a specific patter. I would like to either have the files show with their paths, or return a list of the directories to work with later on... Using the Get Directories method I beleive it creates an Array but I am unfamiliar with how to manage the list it returns. I am also having an issue when the user selects cancel the code continues running for the get files method and throws an error.

I have a textbox that is used to add directories to a system folder, each name seperated by a line. If the textbox has text value "Test " that is "Test" & controlchars.newline & "" (not like this is coded, it's typed in), then if i use loop for each part as string in textbox1.text.split(controlchars.newline), the first part will be "Test", the second part will say " " when i run step by step debugger, but if i try and block the addition of a folder by "if part = " "" it does not catch it. I've tried comparing part to "", " ", nothing (which is illogical anyways), and i even tried creating a boolean variable equal to the statment to try and catch it but the program insists that part is not " " even though the debugger tells me that is the value of part.

How would I go about counting specfic files in a given folder?I have for instance these files; 6-11715.jpg ,6-11715_1.jpg, 6-11715_2.jpg, 6-11715_3.jpg, 6-11715_4.jpg, 6-11715_5.jpg, 6-11715_6.jpg.
I want to be able to show the first picture then using a next button load the second picture and so on. When I get to the last picture I will repeat the process.
I'm thinking I need to count the files first based on the left string of the name to get the total number. then based on the number I can pull the fill with the file name change accordingly.

This is currently the code I am using.
Dim fileList As Collections.ObjectModel.ReadOnlyCollection(Of String) = My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles(FolderDialog1.SelectedPath, FileIO.SearchOption.SearchTopLevelOnly)
For Each topLvlFile As String In fileList
[code]....
The above code reads all the files & directories in a selected path. It ignores any hidden folders, like it suppose to. Except it doesn't ignore folders inside of the hidden folders that it finds & I need it to.I can't quite wrap my head around how to make it ignore all folders & files inside of a hidden folder that it find.

What I would want, is a way to get a count of how many sub-folders another folder consists of. For instance, if "c:TestAppTestFolder" contains the sub-folders "Videos", "Pictures and "Audio", I would somehow want to get the code to get the value '3' in this case.

I'm trying to figure the best way to verify the contents of a folder based on another count via a listbox. Here is my current code to count the number of PDFs in two different locations and total them together for a grand total.
'counts test1 pdfs
Dim f As String, c As Long
[code]....
I have another process before this that will create the PDF's based on the files listed in the listbox. What I am having trouble with is verifying that the PDFs that are created in the Test1 and Test2 folders equal the counts from the listboxes. This count needs to match before running the next process. I'm kind looking for wait or loop until both counts match, again before running the next process.

Basically I'm going to try and develop a software that merges PDFs automatically using the PDFSharp API.What I want in the program is to basically that: Have the program to give and Input and Output directoryMerge all the documents in the directory or sub-directoryRename the merged PDF file according the the name of the directory/sub-directoryIf the folder has PDF files and a Sub-Directory I want to merge the PDF files in the folder and rename them as per the main folder, and rename the files in the sub-folder according to its name (i.e. seperate|)
It's the first time I'm using an API.The problem I have is how to use the directories and sub-directories as I need them.

I am working with VB 2008. I want to be able to run this program say in N: and it will show me in an excel sheet the following:
Folder Path Size(GB) Count of Files
N:Clients 0.53 308
where clients contains subfolders and files and the size is the total of all those files within each folder and the count is the total within each folder also.
This works fine as it is but i have to select one by one the top level folders and some of them are huge so it takes forever to give me an answer.
1) I would like to see in my spreadsheet the following by only select the network drive n:
Folder Path Size(GB) Count of Files
N:Clients 0.53 308
N:Software 10.7 15430
N:Billing 0.98 105
2) I would also like to know if this is the faster method.
3) I tried adding a progress bar so that the user can have an idea of how much this will take but i had to remove because it was not working.
4) I would like to see the folder name, size of folder and count of files in the listview.
Here is the code:
Imports Microsoft
Imports Microsoft.Win32
Imports Microsoft.Win32.Registry
Imports System.Collections
[code].....

I have some reports that I use with the MS ReportViewer and I need to get a count of the physical pages (as opposed to logical page count) to use with a print dialog. I've implemented a workaround so the ReportViewer control displays the correct number of physical pages, but is there a way to get that value from the ReportViewer control? The only publicly accessible property gives the logical page count.

designing a Windows based computer program that will allow a user to enter some number (n) and a choice of a count up or count down for that many numbers. So for example, the user enters 5 as their number and selects the count down option, the message box displayed would contain the message: "Here are your numbers: 5,4,3,2,1,0"

Declare some class level variables that will keep track of the sums for each column. For example:
[Code]....
During the RowDataBound event, retrieve the data from each column and add it to the appropriate sum. I'm not sure if you are developing an ASP.NET application or a Win-forms desktop application so I cannot help you any further at this point. What have you tried so far to solve the problem?

I'm trying to make a simple program to list a directory and sub directories on an ftp. I haven't found anything simple to do this other than a dll made for ftp commands. There are two problems with that dll, the first is I can't get recursing through directories to work right and it has a trial period. So I'm wondering if there is a simple pure VB way to simply list directories on an ftp. The dll I've played with is ChilkatDotNet2.dll.

I am now convinced there is no such thing using VB 2010 Express. I have read, re-read, studied, copied and pasted code to no end and all I get are error messages galore. It appears there is a big gap between what's on line as far as tutorials and the code that VB 2010 Express will accept. I hate to sound so lost but at the moment I am. I used to program in BASIC and QBASIC. I was a master at opening up ascii text files, reading them in sequential order, sorting, manipulating, then re-writing them. It was all so easy, like this: [code] That's all I want to learn how to do for the moment. But every tutorial or article I find goes off in to wild tangents about How to Manage Directories or it reads the entire text file into one giant object. Or worse, there's some code which looks promising but it won't run under VB 2010 Express or it might run but the author leaves out important parts of the code that have to be declared ahead of the subroutine....you all know what I mean. It can't be this difficult to just read a text file one line at a time, therefore it shouldn't be so difficult to find an accurate and up to date article on this. This is for really rough programming. I don't need an interface of any kind. The user, will not even need to know that anything is happening. I simply want to read text files, manipulate what's in them and then re-write the edited text.
