It only seems to work if the first column is an integer datatype, which is the case for my other tables, but the table which I am currently dealing with using a string datatype. Is there another way to count the number of rows without using SQL statements or can I adapt my existing code in some way?
how do I count all non-new rows in a datagridview?
datagridview always give a blank row at the last row, and when i do a rows.count, it always adds up
is there a way to count only non new rows, or do i just need to subtract 1 every count (which is weird)

I am trying to create some code in my program that will allow the user to open an excel file and then return the number of rows and columns in the worksheet. There will only be 1 worksheet in the workbook (since this is just a small part of a larger program I am writing). I already tested the code that will open the file in another program and it worked fine; the thing that is catching me is the row and column counts. i have a datagridview linked to a access DB that right now looks in the 5th column and counts the number of "c","o" (completed and open) but it gets the count from the entire data base. I am able to filter the ones for a certain day and view them on the grid but how to count the number of occurrences that are visible and not the ones that have been filtered out?

- gridview.GroupRowExpanded
- gridview.GroupRowCollapsed
Where I increase or decrement an integer that keeps track of how many group rows are currently expanded. I am now tackling the problem of what to do if the user expands or collapses all of the group rows. I currently know when this is done by checking the e.RowHandle. Any way to find the total number of groups rows currently in the GridView (something like rowcount for normal rows) so I know how many to set the tracking integer to.
For Example: If my current count is 2 and the total number of groups are 15 then when the Expand All is fired the current count is set to 15 rather than 3.

View 1 RepliesOur site is developing against a 3rd party API (Wonderware) that returns datasets and datatables from certain calls. The issue we are having with some of the calls is the data returned is more than we want to show to the end users. We are binding the data to a datagrid, and will sometimes get back 20+ columns of data we don't need to show. Is there a way to filter the datatable of columns before binding it to the datagrid? Right now we are using the datagrid to hide the columns, but I think it would be better to strip out the columns of data we don't need before binding to the grid.
