Reload Current Page In Asp.net?

Sep 28, 2011

I have a session variable that changes some things about how a page looks. I have a button that changes the value of this session variable. But ... the onClick event happens after page load, so by the time I update the session variable based on the button click, it's too late, the page has already been loaded.

Theoretically I could put all the logic about changing the display into a function and call it from page load, and then call it again from the onclick after the variable as been updated. But this is impractical: there are many user controls that check the value, used on many different pages in different combinations. I would have to hard-code the list of user controls on each page, and if someone added a new user control to a particular page, they'd have to remember to update this function, which is lame.

Is there a way to force a page reload? (I can use response.redirect back to myself and it works. If all else fails I guess this is what I'll do. But it means an extra round trip to the server, which is clumsy.)

Is there a way to process the onclick before the page load?

Reload Page Data Based On Dynamic DropdownList Selected Value

Oct 26, 2011

I have a bit of a tricky scenario. It consists of some partial problems for which I have individually found solutions, but I couldn't find anything that makes it all work together smoothly.

-Upon selecting an item in a datagrid, a new page loads with the details regarding that entity.
-The entity represents a product that can have any amount of variants (such as a t-shirt's color or size)
-I dynamically add dropdownlists to this detail-page that represent these variants (there can be any amount of variants, and each variant can have any amount of different values, each value or combination or values from different variants representing a unique product entity)
-Upon selecting a different variant in a dropdown, a delegate is called that will change the session variable to the productId associated with the selected variant and a postback is fired that will reload the page with new data based on this productId

The problem: the postback is fired BEFORE the dropdownlist's (OnSelectedIndexChanged) delegate is called. Since this delegate defines the productId in the session, the new to-be-used productId isn't known at the time of postback.

Result: loading the correct data in the page is always delayed by one postback. Each time I change the selected index of any of the dropdowns, the page is loaded with data based on the session variable that the PREVIOUS OnSelectedIndexChanged delegate of the dropdown set.

I have a LoadData() method that sets the values of all textboxes, fields, labels etc. based on the productId stored in the current session. This method is called on Page_Load.
Private Property CurrentProduct As Product
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
LoadData()
[Code] .....

It seems that I haven't been completely clear on what does and doesn't apply to this scenario regarding Page Lifecycle.

1) My dropdownlists are added dynamically, which works fine on the first page_load.
2) The content of the dropdownlists is defined by what entity's details i'm loading on the page.
3) What entity's details I'm loading on the page is at first(not-postback) defined by the product I selected in a gridview in the previous page.
4) At postback, this entity is based on a sessionvariable containing the id of the entity.
5) This session variable is defined by what item in the dropdownlist I select.
6) This dropdownlist dissapears after postback since it's not defined on the page, but dynamically. So is the event.

So my guess would go towards some clientside script that stored the selected value before postback, but then I would be clueless on how to get that variable to the server since the logic that retrieves the entity is in the business logic layer which is far away from this page..

Create A Asp.net Download Page?

Sep 1, 2011

I'd like to create a asp.net download page. I receive the file from a dataservice as a byte array. The file size can be up to 10gb. So I need to transfer the file "in parts".

Here is my code:

Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream"
Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", _
"attachment; filename=" & HttpUtility.UrlEncode(file.Name))

[code]....

The code snippet works but I have a big problem. The download already starts before the user confirmed the browser download dialog. If the user waits 5min he has already downloaded the 10gb file without accepting it.

Asp.net - Using SiteMapPath To Create A Dynamic Page Title?

Feb 18, 2011

I currently use SiteMapPath to generate a breadcrumb for my ASP.net 3.5 (vb.net) pages and it works great.

Now I am trying to figure out how I might be able to use the same control to build a dynamic page title (in the tag). I want a reverse path listed, but the SiteMapPath control includes links and bunch of styling spans. Is there any way to remove all of that, and just get a plain path with separators?

For example, Let's say we are on the "Press Releases" page inside of the "About" section of my site.

The breadcrumb shows up as:

Home > About > Press Releases

I want to have the page title be:

Press Releases - About - Company Name

So I need it to reverse the order, drop all spans, links and styling (since this is inside the tag) and drop the root node "Home" and then add the company name to the end. Since my menu nav and breadrumbs are all driven from the sitemap file, I thought it would make sense to try to make the title do the same.

Create A Secure Login Page Using VS 2010/ASP.Net?

Apr 5, 2011

I would like to create a secure login page for a pre-defined set of users (so no creating username/passwords by the users themselves). I've looked up a few sites and they all seem to suggest using Microsoft's Membership or something. I am not very sure as to why that's used, but all you need to know is that I will be creating the login details. I just need to make the login secure, ie, no duplicate logins, no logins from different browsers and cookies and sessions and encryption and all that. Any one have the code/links to where I can get all this?

Create A Strongly Typed View Page Using ASP.NET MVC ?

Apr 28, 2009

I am using the ASP.NET MVC VB.NET XML Literals View Engine created by Dmitry Robsman and described on his blog in this post.

[URL]

I would like to create strongly typed view pages using this view engine, but it doesn't seem to contain the requisite VbView(Of TModel) generic type by which I would create such a view class.

The end result should look something like this:

Namespace Views.Client
Public Class Details(Of Models.Client)
Inherits SiteMaster

[Code]....

Once there is a VbView(Of TModel) class that inherits from Dmitry's VbView class, how to hook that up so that it works with standard MVC controllers that call the view like this.

Function Details(ByVal id As Integer) As ActionResult
Dim c = SomeGetClientFunction(id)
Return View(c)
End Function

Create HTML Page Express 2008?

What I really need now is to be able to enter the code in VB to actually create the HTML page with the name as the link. The HTML page needs to load the image and have a form below it. I have a active form already online that uses e-forms to send responses back to me.

am trying to find out is there any way to create a web browser in a vb.net aspx page rather a vb.net form. I have looked on the internet they all seem to be on a form and not a website. The reason I want it on a website is so that i can view other website pages on the website that I am creating for holding game information. For example a user is interested in finding information about a certain game within my website and instead of using another tab or opening another browser page he/she can just use the inbuilt browser on my wbesite.

Create A WebBrowser Control And Navigate To A Page To Login?

Oct 26, 2010

I'm using a WebBrowser control in my current program in a bit of a bastardized way: I don't use it visually, I just use it because I'm more familiar with its events.

So, basically, I create a WebBrowser control and navigate to a page to login. Then, when logged in, I create a new WebBrowser control and navigate to a different page.

I've used this program for four months with no difficulty. Starting today, though, the second phase of that has been going really, really slowly. What used to take 3-5 seconds is taking 25-30 seconds. It still works eventually, it just takes a while.

Usually I would assume this was a server problem. However, navigating to the exact same URL in Firefox happens extremely quickly. Weirder still, within the program there is a user WebBrowser control -- I can copy/paste the URL the previous (not visible) WebBrowser was navigating toward into this user WebBrowser, and it goes just fine.

What in the world could be holding up this other "custom" WebBrowser? I don't even know where to begin in diagnosing this.It might be important to note that the site this is working based off recently underwent some changes -- but I can't imagine why that would affect only these "custom" WebBrowsers and not the user one in the same program.
