I'm working with a vb.net application and i automate word with vb.net. so i want to create a page based on my template so i have to specify where the template file is but in my computer the file is in a special folder lets say named myapps but in the clients file it will probably be in the programfilles folder is there a way that i must not specift the whole path and just the file name or something like that?

It would be christmas if you had the code in vb...but I will be satisfied with just the logic. My thought is to eventually make this into a jsonp web service so I can use jstree to build a tree, but for now im just trying to understand the logic necessary to parse this correctly.

In VB.NET,I want to create template at runtime and save it the template with name. for ex : Administrator design a page with 5 fields like using firstname, lastname, dob,nationality and job. He want to assign this page to the user with some restriction like user1 need to enter the all the fields and save it the forms as user1profile, but user2 need to enter only firstname and lastname and save it as user2profile.(in features, he can remove the fields from the form).

I have an application that I'm writing that needs to allow the user to be able to create templates and save them for how the applicaton will work. For instance, lets say I am provisioining mobile devices, and my application allows the user to create a template to only install "application1" on the device, with "application1" settings for "devicetype1". But then if the user has "devicetype2", he or she can select the template that they created to install the software for that kind of device. I've looked around and all I find is the .exe.config for read only application settings, and I have found the user.config for the read/write variables. But that won't work as my application could have several templates depending on what the user chooses. I'm looking to have my app have a "create template", "edit existing template, and"use existing template" buttons, and have my config file extension like *.ipx for example.

My requirement is to create a XML file based on an XSD. The source data for this file will be coming from a database. For the purposes of this test, I am trying to manually assign the values.
I followed these steps:
1) Used the XSD.exe to create a VB Class.

2) Added the VB Class in my project.
3) If I try to compile my code, I get an error.

Is there a way to create a folder for each file with the folder name being the same as the file name minus the extension and then put the file in the folder.For example: Folder "test" would be created from file "test.doc". Then the file "test.doc" would be moved into folder "test".I have some experience with visual basic, and my thought process for this was: make a loop that brought in each file name > store as a variable > create folder with the name in the variable > remove the last four characters from the folder name > move file into the folder > clear variable > repeat.

I have a VB 6.0 code that creates file/directory on given path. If the path is local or a mapped drive then it's working fine but if I am having a network path like \netpathputfileshere" then it is not working. If I mapped "\netpathputfileshere" to some x: drive on local then it will work fine BUT I need not mapped this path. So is there any way to do this directly on network path. I get error for ChDrive "\netpathpullfileshere"

View 15 RepliesI have completed my VB project using vb 2008 express edition..I am not able to create a set up file for my project and I think it is because of the file path i have provided in my program

The above path is a fixed path which connects my program to the database. Now when I create a set up file and try to run on another machine it wont recognize this path . have placed the database in the same folder that of the program.
Im trying to write to a file I created and place "Unregistered" in it. Thought it would be a simple task but keep getting an error. Its happening when I try and open the file to write. This is the error: Access to the path 'G:\Projects\Project\pbss\bin\Debug\5\pbssv\Data.DB' is denied.
Ive tried adding the file attributes to read-write and still get the same. Most of the code ive looked at via a google search points to the same as ive got for the Added default value area. The application I wish to develop would need to be able to create html and email templates using variable tokens - what I mean is that users would need to be able to insert into their html or email template previously assigned variables that would send dynamically generated text from the database - so, for example, they could write in their template {title}, or {firstname} {lastname} which would then be replaced by the data from the db.
