View 4 RepliesI'm trying to match a certain DateTime value with the current system DateTime. I have a timer and a label on a form. Timer interval is set to 1000. When the form loads, the timer starts ticking. As soon as the current DateTime matches the value of the variable, it shows a message in the label. When I'm writing the following code, the values don't match even if the current system DateTime is equal to the variable. Label1 isn't showing 'Times Matched':[code]The default format of 'Now' is the same as I have stored in dtmVar variable. So there's no question of format mismatch. Does that mean 'Now' is not actually a DateTime property? Provided, my O.S. is Windows Vista Ultimate and all date/time settings are set to default.

Why is it so? The default format of 'Now' is the same as I have stored in dtmVar variable. So there's no question of format mismatch. Does that mean 'Now' is not actually a DateTime property? Provided, my O.S. is Windows Vista Ultimate and all date/time settings are set to default.
I have a Datetime Picker on a form.
When I use dtArrival.value for instance, it gives me the date in the format "24/04/2010 10:54 PM"
Is there a way that I can grab the value in the format "YY/MM/DD" e.g the value would return "10/04/24"?
Also whats the easiest way to calculate the number of days between two datetime pickers on the same form? I've tried to do it and it's just a mess.
I am building an application that needs to store different time of day values in dateTime fields of an Access database.I am trying to enter the time value's via a DataGridView using TextBoxColomn s.The coloms are formatted with the defaultCellStyle property to show only the time part of the datetime.After i save the entered data and look in the database itself, i see not only the time, but also the (current) date in the datetimefields. This raises a problem when i want to compare the timevalues later on in the functionality of the program i am building.(Of course it is simple to seperate the date and time part in coding of the program, but it would be more elegant (i think) if i could just save only the time part in the database (and have the date part of de datetimes left to 0))I have tryed via the CellFormatting and the CellParsing events, but no luck.I am new to visual basic and probebly missing out on something.
View 2 RepliesSo I created a table and one of the columns is is called currencydate, and has a datetime data type. Within my vb scripts, i've taken a filename and extracted the date components from it. an example filename is WER22402.10. The part in bold is the date meaning 24th February 2010.
I use the following function to extract the date values and convert it to a date type.
Private Function ConvertStringToDate(ByRef FileName) As Date
Dim S As String = FileName
S = S.Substring(4, 7)

View 1 RepliesI am not sure if this should be in the SQL or vb.net section.But, Basically I have a vb.net application from where I insert a datetime field into the SQL Server Database. Now for some reason the SQL server field(which is datetime) will not display AM/PM, I have referred this link where my code looks like this:
Dim dateToDisplay As DateTime = DateTime.Now dsNewRow.Item("date_created") = dateToDisplay.ToString("MM.dd.yyyy hh:mm:ss tt")
I tried stepping into the code by debugging and it seems to be inserting the PM but is not displayed in the table QuotedateToDisplay#8/12/2011 6:01:06 PM#Date
I'm changing old, vulnerable SqlCommands with SqlParameters but get a SqlException: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException {"Conversion failed when converting datetime from character string."}
on sqlCommand.ExecuteScalar:
Dim sqlString As String = _
"SELECT TOP 1 " & _
"fiSL " & _
"FROM " & _

How do I achieve the same in VB.NET which is so easily done in SQL Server.
Select Case(GetDate() as VarBinary(8)) --Gives the Current Time in Hex
How can I create the same string in VB.NET so that I can compare in SQL Server as such -
Select Case When GetDate()=Cast(0X00009F5E00D8DF7C As DateTime) Then 'True' Else 'False' End -- 0X00009F5E00D8DF7C Will be the value I get in VB.NET When I convert it Date.Now() To Hex
I'm trying to create an auction site using asp.net. My auction's start date & time and end date & time are stored in my sql server 2008 r2 database as datetime types. I'm using vb.net. I'm trying to create a select statement in which I can query the date and time portion relative to the current date and time (so as to only display current ongoing auctions). I can successfully query the date portion using the Date.Now function, but the time is giving me a hassle. DateAndTime.Now doesn't work. I've even tried to separate the time and date in the database, but I still can't get an effective query. Here are two examples of code which I've tried:

I've a scenario where I've to move data from a Oracle Table to a SQL Server table. The column in Oracle is Timestamp(6) 6 being the precision. Now I cannot send the Oracle Data in string format. I pull the data straight from the Oracle Table, so cannot format it on oracle side. What I can do is format the data using VB6.Format to make it suitable for SQL Server DateTime. I'm doing this for Oracle Date to SQL Server Datetime

Im writing a program that does some general network stuff

Im trying to retrieve some rows from sql server having datetime column that matches the given value of the textbox in a form. The tables datetime column name is "DepDateDepositDate" and the textbox.text was formatted as longdate eg("Tuesday, April 06, 2010") I have this code below but it seems its not retrieving the data that i wanted.
Dim daBnkBok = New SqlDataAdapter("Select * From DepositRef Where Convert(varchar,DepDateDepositDate, 112) = '" & Convert.ToDateTime(clsGlobals.BankBook.bbDepDate.Text).Date & "' ", bbcons)
I have some code that works fine when I need to delete some image files from a directory on my web server:
Dim ImageURL As String = dsImages.Tables(0).Rows(iImgRow).Item("ImageURL")
Dim physicalName = Server.MapPath(ImageURL)
oUpload.DeleteFileFromServer(physicalName, iAdid, iImgID)

Basically what I need to do is to insert into table Reservation a vehicleID, startDate and endDate.
I can do that fine but I'd like to validate it so that it cannot be inserted for that vehicleID if the current date is <= endDate as currently I can just keep adding to the Reservation table on the same vehicleID
This is just the simple insert SQL statement.
strInsert = String.Format("Insert into Reservation (VehicleID, startDate, enddate) VALUES ('{0}','{1}','{2}')", vID, now, now5)
How to get userID of current user logged in from server using asp.net vb?
View 2 RepliesI am a ASP Classic Programmer, professionally for a little over a year, I have developed some rather nice sites, including the one in my signature (Still a work in progress).
I have been forced to use ASP.NET (VB) for a FileUpload control, as it offers a self controlled way of creating Thumbnails, without the use of 3rd party controls, which is great, as my hosting server does not allow for 3rd party installs on their servers.
So.
The code below is what I have so far for connecting to the database and displaying a record is the "cookie" exist on the users computer.
Unfortunantly, this is not working, and to be honest with you, their is not a whole lot of resources available to show how to do this correctly.
So I am stuck with a lot of post and hoping that someone can actually assist me with this and tell me what I am doing wrong and maybe correct my code.
I am getting an error about the "Connection is closed"
If you want to re-write my code, I prefer something simple and basic, as the only thing that I am doing to checking rather the user is logged in, and if so, display a record from the database. I am NOT in the need for the DataGrid, so please do not suggest it, as I am only needing to check this one thing.
I would like to also add, that I have successfully contect to my database with the FileUpload control and save file names of the images uploaded, so I know that my connection string is done properly> But, for some reason the "SELECT" statement is causing a HUGE issue. (It was easier to insert, than to select, I am not use to that)

I have this code for my update checker. It loads a blank text file on my server containg the current version. I have it set to naviagte to this url then searches the web browser for the current version. If it cannot find it then there is a newer version, and a button becomes visible which lunches a webpage that has the current version. I would like it to loop my Check_for_update code until the webbrowser1.statustext = "Done" Below is the code i have but it doesnt work for some reason. Private Sub Update_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load

Question: How to pass the current user on the web page from the IIS server to the Reporting Services Server.I have seen this topic throughout the forums. However, the answers are always hard code the user in web.config - use a login window and pass those fields to the IReportServercredentials or create one user for everyone.
When the person who asks the question comes back and says that doesn't work there is not answer.Does anyone know how to do this? I have VS 2008 ( and 2010 ) I am sending the info to SSRS 2005 server.As anyone using SSRS knows that if the reports have parameters and udf behind the report to inspect who the user is, then you have to pass that user to the report.
[Code]...
I have been programming steady with vb.net for a year now and was all happy about using the List view and email etc from web sites. I even used a reportviewer to pdf to email attach, cool. Now I feel quite lost and realize I have not been using properties, etc. That is my background.
In VB.net code, I create requests with SQL parameters. It I set a DateTime parameter to the value DateTime.Now, what will my request look like ?
UPDATE table SET date = "2010/12/20 10:25:00";
or
UPDATE table SET date = GEtDATE();
In the first case I'm sure that every record will be set to the exact same time. In the second case it depends on how the DBMS processes the request. Which leads me to the second question : does SQL Server set the same date and time when updating a large table with NOW() ?
EDIT : replaced NOW() (which doesn't exist in SQl Server) by GETDATE().

View 1 RepliesWe are thinking about changing our current database system, MS Access 2007 front end and MS SQL Server 2005 backend to using a higher level language such as Visual Basic .Net. I wonder if this is the BEST solution for data management? Currently, among others, we have two big database programs that handle more than two hundred users and it's crashed often. That's the reason we think about changing to something that can handle these database programs effectively preferably using MS technology such as .Net.
