Custom CollectionEditor Never Triggers A Property's "set" Method?

May 11, 2011

I am trying to implement a way of persisting a collection in a custom settings class. I have successfully created the settings class (inheriting ApplicationSettingsBase) and can save properties using the built-in editors on a PropertyGrid, but my custom implementation of a property grid for collections doesn't persist any of the values I add. Here's my code:

Imports System.Configuration
Imports System.ComponentModel
Imports System.Drawing.Design[code].....

I set a breakpoint on the Set methods for both the BackgroundColor property and the EmailAddresses property. The BackgroundColor property works as it should - it breaks on the Set statement and stores the property correctly. But when I close the custom CollectionEditor dialog, the EmailAddresses "Set" method is never called. How can I get my custom editor to actually save the property once it's done being edited?

PropertyGrid And CollectionEditor - Object With A Property That Is A Collection

Aug 12, 2011

I have an object with a property that is a collection. When I point the PropertyGrid to the object it displays the ellipses for the collection. When I click it I get the generic collectioneditor. Of course the Add put fails because my collection is strongly typed. I need an example of how to create a collectioneditor that will create my collection's objects.

Calling The UpdatedDb Sub When The .CellEndEdit Event Triggers And When The .UserAddedRows Event Triggers?

Oct 19, 2009

I use the following code in a Sub called "updateDb" to accept changes back to the Db, etc. in the .CellEndEdit event from a DataGridView:

Try
' Write changes back to actual .mdb file
' Accept changes from DataGridView object
Me.Validate()

[code]....

Which is the most appropriate event to handle for this task? Right now I'm calling the updatedDb sub when the .CellEndEdit event triggers and when the .UserAddedRows event triggers.

Extending CollectionEditor - Reference It From Studio 2010?

Nov 26, 2010

As the default for visual studio 2010 is set to ".NET Framework 4 Client Profile" and as such that ill be whats available on the clients PCs. So as i'm looking at adding data binding to a listview headercolumns, i was planning on extending the CollectionEditor (if i have to), but the CollectionEditor is only available when you target the full .NET Framework. So therefore i need to create a second solution with that as a target and build my extended CollectionEditor, but how do i get Studio 2010 (not my 'client' project) to reference my extended CollectionEditor?

Method To Modify Value Of Property

Feb 18, 2011

I've got two classes deployed as COM+ components, let's say ClassA and ClassB. ClassA has some public properties. ClassB sets values for those properties and calls a method of ClassA. The method itself does not modify the value of the property. After the call the values of the properties are reset to default values for the corresponding types. This only happens if the called method includes statement ContextUtil.SetComplete(). Once I comment out the statement the values of the properties remain same as they were before the method call, which is what I expect. Do I overlook some basic concept of COM+ objects and their contexts? I would expect the property value to remain the same in any case.

Here's the simplified listing for the code:
Option Strict Off
Option Explicit On
Imports System.EnterpriseServices
<Transaction(TransactionOption.Required)> _
Public Class ClassA

Overloading A Property's Set Method?

May 12, 2012

maybe it's not a method exactly. here's what I'd like to do:

Private _Columns As ArrayList
Public Property Columns() As ArrayList
Get[code]....

which would allow me to conveniently set the property by assigning to it various kinds of collection types... except, I can't do it because apparently the Set method has to take an argument of the type of the property itself... I get the complaint:

'Set' parameter must have the same type as the containing property

is there a way to do this?

Add Property To Custom Control?

Apr 3, 2010

I have created a custom class, which contains a panel and a label on it. I added to this class a pcaption property, which holds the label text. This property is browsable and I can change its value. But when I drag the custom control to the form and change the pcaption property, it has no effect. Even the <Defaultvalue> has no effect. Why?

Here is the class code:

Imports System.ComponentModel
Public Class mypanel
Inherits Windows.Forms.Panel
Private panelcaption As String

[code]....

Color values are unimportant, you can change it.

Basically i want to hide all the methods/functions/etc.. which are no use.Is this possible whithout having to use the EditorBrowsableAttribute for every item? The best way would be to tell the class that it must hide all props/methods/functions/etc... and after that i can specify which MUST be visible.

Add Validate To A Custom Class Property

Mar 20, 2011

I'm trying to add validation to one of my class properties:[code]The value for the golfer's handicap comes from a oombo box on the form. Even if I have nothing set for this property at runtime, my validation doesn't work. I tried putting the If statement under Get instead of Set, and tried mHandicap = value after an Else in the If statement, but nothing seems to work. I'm working in the dark here and can't find anything suitable online. I was hoping to not go down the path of ReadOnly or WriteOnly properties as I'm not at that stage yet, but does this make a difference for my purposes here? Can anyone guide me as to what I'd need to do from this point? If I've got it right, you can add validation in the class and this means that you then don't need to repeat this validation in the form??
