View 4 RepliesHow can I get the key of a dictionary by passing the index value? I'm trying: If rs.Fields("NM").Value = dictNM.key(0) that is, I want it to compare to the first key in the dictionary but I get the error Compile error: Invalid use of property I tried googling, but to no avail. I'm hoping this is even possible.
View 1 RepliesHow can to make control arrays in vb.net ? there is no INDEX property or Load method like VB6. so how i can do it ?
View 5 RepliesI would like to format output to a property of a custom control I have made. For instance I have a literal control in my control and when populated I want to check if it is longer than 30 characters long, if so, then go to the next space (as to not cut the word off) after the 30th character and place a <br /> tag in to place the next 30 characters on the next line.So if there were 100 characters in a string, there would be 3 line breaks in the label.I have the looping worked out to get the label populated but cannot get how to dymaically create the array based on the string lenth property and index of method.

Can anyone give a good explanation of how the indexof method works and what is meant by "Index" ?
View 3 RepliesHow do I use the Indexof Method to search for an Index a number? The number will be different on each line of the file. Each array has a name and a different zip code. I want to tell it to search for the first number in the line. Everything before that index will be first name, last name, and then zip code.

Ive got two lists (each representing a table in a DB, so they are related). lstTransaction has t_id, date, and cust_id. lstCustomer has Name, and cust_id.For each item in lstTransaction Id like to find the index in lstCustomer where lstCustomer.cust_id = lstTransaction.cust_id.
View 5 Repliesmay i know why I can't locate the index property for the radio button in VB.NET? This is because for my existing project which is converted from VB6, there is existing 4 radio buttons with indexes. And now I want to add one more radio button with index 5, but I can't find the index property for the newly added button. The VB.NET treat it as a new button.
View 4 RepliesI need to develop a function called SetComboBox that accepts the category(ies) in the ComboBox as a string and returns an integer indicating the index position of the category in the ComboBox. The function is supposed to set the category in the ComboBox Selected Index property to match the string category stored in a database for an inventory item.
View 1 RepliesI use drag'n'drop from a datagridview to a panel. The panel holds an array of objects (think rows) so that the items from the datagridview can be dragged to the different objects. I use the y-index from the top of the panel to define what object the item is dragged onto. This works great as long as the object is visible from the start. However, if I scroll down to an object and then drag the item from the dgv, it gets released on the wrong object, as the y-index doesn't take into account the number of pixels I scrolled down. So, what I need is (if it exists) the scroll offset property for the panel, i.e., the number of pixels that I scrolled down. (Then I can add this offset integer to the y coordinate on which the user drops his/her object.)
View 5 RepliesIs it possible to (or how can I) assign values to a class property array like this:
MyImgClass.RGB = (255,255,255)
I'm not sure how to build my Public Property setter to allow this, if it's possible at all.

I'd normally do this in C# but since I've got to get this code in this particular assembly which is a vb.net one, I'm stuck.
Here's my linq query:
Dim i As Integer = 0
Dim oldAndCurrentIntersectionOnNames = From currentApplicant In currentApplicants _
Group Join oldApplicant In oldApplicants _
[CODE]...
You'll see the .Index = i+=1
This was my attempt to do what I'd quite happily do in C# (i.e. Index = i++) in VB. Unfortunately the VB compiler doesn't like that. how I'd do this in VB.
I needed to create an Access table programmatically an was able to by using Martin Xie's post but how can I set the Field1 - Field Property Index to Yes (No Duplicates)?

I am working on windows application form I am having one text box and Listbox. I want if user type on textbox, then List box item is going to be selected, that is working fine. List Box has more than 10,000 records. It takes time to select item from ListBox, while write data in textbox.

I need to find a method of looping through a listbox and retrieving the index number and values - quite straightforward in asp, but turning out to be something of a nightmare in winforms! Here is the scenario - The user can add values in a textbox, that are in turn added to a DataTable that gives it a unique ID and a row number, this is then bound to the listbox. The user can then move the items up or down the list by adjusting the row number in the datatable and rebinding to the listbox..
The problem that I am hitting is when the user needs to delete an item -the first part is easy - delete from the DataTable and rebind to the listbox. The bit where I hit the proverbial brick wall is needing to loop through the listbox rows and getting both the index number and the ValueMember - that way I can change the row numbers in the DataTable based on the index number against the ID number.

I was wondering if there was a way to get the name of the property my statement is in, like I can get the name of a function in PHP with the magic constant __FUNCTION__. Is there a way to get that property name, and more in general, also for functions and methods?
View 1 RepliesI'm writing a debug dump for my app and need to know which Method or Property caused the error along with a trace of the last few routines.
View 3 RepliesI've got two classes deployed as COM+ components, let's say ClassA and ClassB. ClassA has some public properties. ClassB sets values for those properties and calls a method of ClassA. The method itself does not modify the value of the property. After the call the values of the properties are reset to default values for the corresponding types. This only happens if the called method includes statement ContextUtil.SetComplete(). Once I comment out the statement the values of the properties remain same as they were before the method call, which is what I expect. Do I overlook some basic concept of COM+ objects and their contexts? I would expect the property value to remain the same in any case.
Here's the simplified listing for the code:
Option Strict Off
Option Explicit On
Imports System.EnterpriseServices
<Transaction(TransactionOption.Required)> _
Public Class ClassA
[Code] .....
maybe it's not a method exactly. here's what I'd like to do:
Private _Columns As ArrayList
Public Property Columns() As ArrayList
Get[code]....
which would allow me to conveniently set the property by assigning to it various kinds of collection types... except, I can't do it because apparently the Set method has to take an argument of the type of the property itself... I get the complaint:
'Set' parameter must have the same type as the containing property
is there a way to do this?
If you create a COMClass, I've noticed that the values in the XML Summary tag do not show in the object browser of VB6/VBA when you reference the resulting tlb file. Is there a way to have these values show up?
View 1 RepliesHaving trouble with properties in a Class, demonstrated by the code below. If create a class (person) that has another class (address) as a property and set the elements of the address, the set method on the first class never gets called. It also allows the property to be updated although the set method prevents this.

I have a Class A that inherits from a base class. In the class A i have build some methods/properties.What I want is that some methods/properties from the base class are not visible in the intellisense which makes it easier for a developer. Basically i want to hide all the methods/functions/etc.. which are no use.Is this possible whithout having to use the EditorBrowsableAttribute for every item? The best way would be to tell the class that it must hide all props/methods/functions/etc... and after that i can specify which MUST be visible.
'by default hide all props/functions/etc.... ????

Is it accepted to have a method parameter named the same as a property? At least it gives no error, even if in the same letter-case.. How does the compiler distinguish? does it always prioritize the local parameter?
