Accessing The Caption Property Of A Field In Access Database?

Jul 7, 2009

I have made a front-end application in Visual Basic .NET that will store data entered by the user in a backend Access 2003 Database. The application has other functionality as well.If the user searchs for a previous record that has been stored in the Access Database, I query the Database (SELECT ... ) using an OLEDB Connection and then display the records on a Datagrid on my Form. Everything is working fine, however, the Column Headings of the Datagrid are the Field Names in my Database (FirstName, LastName,...) rather than Caption Values (First Name, Last Name,... )

I tried looking up the net, but most of the topics addressing a similar problems use DAO, and I understand that it is not completely supported in VB .NET. I am fairly new to VB .NET and I am not quite sure how to address the problem or where I am going wrong. I tried using FirstName.Caption but that gives a Runtime error (One or more parameters missing from the Sentence)

IDE Stop Filling In The Rest Of A Property When Creating A New Property?

Nov 5, 2011

when I'm creating a new property in Visual Basic .NET in Visual Studio 2010, the rest of the Property (template?) doesn't complete the basic framework of the property in the code editor. It is now treating a statement like:

Public Property Length() As Integer

Instead of completing the property as it used to (code follows), it simply goes to the next line:

Public Property Length() As Integer
Get[code].....

What happens now is that, if I type in the 'End Property' code, the name of the property will now be highlighted as an error since it doesn't have a 'Get' or 'Set' portion. However, when I THEN type the 'Get' on the line following the 'Public Property Length() As Integer', then the balance of the property is created in the code automatically.I don't know how this got changed, but would love to change it back.Does anyone know if there's a setting in VS2010 that addresses this, or if it's something with the basic templates that visual studio uses for creating the basic code components? The weird thing is that for everything else, from class declarations, structures, functions and subs, the IDE still creates the balance of the code structure correctly. The only area where it doesn't is for Property declarations.

Asp.net - Get Selected Row Index Of Dynamic Dropdown List Selection?

May 29, 2009

I know the question is a little choppy and perhaps misleading, but I have a gridview with dropdownlists on the rows. I created an AddHandler and a Delegate for the SelectedIndexChanged and it gets to the sub. Here is the code for that:

AddHandler ddlmgr.SelectedIndexChanged, AddressOf ddlmgr_SelectedIndexChanged
Public Delegate Sub DropDownList_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As DropDownList_SelectedIndexChanged)

Protected Sub ddlmgr_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)

End Sub How can i get the row's Id if GridView_RowCommand is not called?

Make Gridview Checkbox Field Update Boolean Field In Database?

Feb 7, 2011

There are lots of questions about this but I've not been able to solve my problem using the answers to any of them (after many, many attempts..)

I'm working in vb.net creating an asp.net web application. I have an SqlDataSource and a GridView on my page.

I want to change the DoNotMail boolean value represented by a Gridview checkbox and automatically update in the database if the checkbox is checked from 0 (False, Will Mail) to 1 (True, Won't Mail) here is the code I used. [code]...

is it possible to do a two way sync on the entire gridview when the user hits a button so you don't have to do an update every time a row is changed? because the user might check the box and then check another box then uncheck a box and it would be a lot of updates...

Some of the columns in the GridView have text boxes, as well as Checkboxes. When the user saves the page, the page may error if they have not entered their data correctly. At this point, I need to re-display what they have entered already so they can simply make the correction instead of having to change everything from scratch again.

Error The Type For Variable 'Index' Will Not Be Inferred Because It Is Bound To A Field In An Enclosing Scope

I have some code and there are 2 errors which I don't understand I have tried all sorts...

1)The type for variable 'Index' will not be inferred because it is bound to a field in an enclosing scope. Either change the name of 'Index', of use the fully qualified name (for example, 'Me.Index' or 'MyBase.Index').

2)Function 'GetNewPhrase' doesn't return a value on all code paths. A null reference exception could occur at run time when the result is used.

I can't get it to work..

Dynamic Custom Class Property

Dec 18, 2009

I have a For Each block loops through a list of objects, the objects are all instances of a single custom class I have made which has multiple properties. The logic used in this block uses a property of the custom class to do a set action, is it possible to dynamically supply which property it uses in the logic? This will be more efficient and prevent me from having to create this logic over for each property of the custom class. My best guess was that maybe it is possible with reflection, however my searches into reflection have left me more confused.

VS 02/03 Dynamic Textbox MaxLength Property?

Mar 11, 2011

i am struggling with something quite elementary and simple. I am creating 200 dynamic textboxes with the following code :

[Code]...

Now, I need to restrict the user to type a maximum of 5 characters inside. The MaxLength property is supposed to help me with that, but the user is still allowed to type more than five characters!Later on, after I have crossed this bridge, I'll need to allow a minimum of five as well - so that the user will always be able to enter only five characters inside each textbox. Another problem in the future will be to allow only numeric digits. These are product codes, whic are always numeric, and always 5 characters in length

Forms :: Panel Offset Index Property?

Oct 19, 2009

I use drag'n'drop from a datagridview to a panel. The panel holds an array of objects (think rows) so that the items from the datagridview can be dragged to the different objects. I use the y-index from the top of the panel to define what object the item is dragged onto. This works great as long as the object is visible from the start. However, if I scroll down to an object and then drag the item from the dgv, it gets released on the wrong object, as the y-index doesn't take into account the number of pixels I scrolled down. So, what I need is (if it exists) the scroll offset property for the panel, i.e., the number of pixels that I scrolled down. (Then I can add this offset integer to the y coordinate on which the user drops his/her object.)
