DB/Reporting :: Setting Up A Second Combo Box From First Cbox Using Dataset

I am writing a school project in VB2005 and am trying to hook up a second combo box that gets its information of what to display from the first combo box. My application is where a student takes a "test" but they can choose what instructor they want in the first combo box. From there, they choose from a test of what each instructor offers in the second combo box. As of right now, my first combo box works great and my second combo box has nothing in it. Just a note, when I debug, it shows my iUserID value as 0.
so i started a program yesterday and after a whole day of tinkering with codes i have realised that something was wrong with my old program and i have started again.
I have a DataGridView on a form in VB.NET, that is being populated from a SQL table dataset by giving criteria from a previous form. I have 6 columns in the dataset, of which the last column should be combo box column containing items "Done" and "Pending". How do I make this bound column to a combo box column and display the value as well as the alternate item too in the combo box?
I'm trying to bind data to a combo box but it does not appear to be working. I've setup the DataSet and the DataSetBindingSource and all this appears to be working, within the form design I can expand the little arrow in the ComboBox control and preview the data. This appears to be working but when the application is run, nothing appears in the drop down box.
I'm fairly new to visual basic and have a problem that is probably quite easy to solve yet I have been unable to do it so far and am about at wits end.I have an access database with a table that contains a list of cities and states. what i would like to do is to populate a combo box on a vb form with a list of the states in the states column. the query that i have is as follows:
SELECT DISTINCT State from Cities I have previewed the data in the dataset designer and it works, i just can't figure out how to make it fill the combo box. i initially created a table with just all of the states and then used a binding source and table adapter to bind it to the combo box, but if I'm able to figure this out this would help with my application going forward
i am new with visual studio 2008 and basic I have a combobox1 and combobox2 that are representing cities Combobox1 represents departure city and combobox2 destination city.Now i have a combobox3 that i want to load when i click it and run this sql query:
SELECT time_departure FROM routes WHERE (departure = Combobox1.value) AND (destination = Combobox2.value)

Trying to set a Combo Box RowSource to a field in a table that contains the choices separated by semi colons. Have tried both a query and a DLookup but it results in displaying the full contents of the table field, e.g. "10;12;14;16" rather than giving me the usual selection list
I have an open database (dataset) with two tables. It is binded to toolboxes, but I have one field, what I have to calculate about other parameters. I have binding navigator, and I can set field values from controls (eg. toolbox). I can step my rows, with binding navigator. I can update my database. But how can I set field value from code?
I want a code line: database.fields("fieldname") = something - or something like this
I am a developing an application based on VB 2008 express and a MYSQL database.I have created a database called octupus_db and inside it there is a table called customers.I now have a combo box on my form and i want it to populate its contents from field called town inside the customers table. How do do this? [code]but now connection a table and a field with my application is the next night mare, tried .
adding to the binding source then setting the combobox to selectedIndex of newly added row is not working.the new row is in there but it does not set the selectedIndex to the specified index. but if I run the code a second time it selects it.what can i do to make sure the combo uses the specified index?

I am trying to fill a combo box using a dataset and data adapt. I am struggling too work out how to do it. I thought it would have been easy but I was wrong. i can set the text to read the first line of the colomn but nothing else. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with what I have to do. I think I have to increment inc and add a line underneath but I don't know how to do that
I'm trying to populate a combo box with a dataset, this sort of works, but everything is just appearing on the same line. I think this answer might be to put the dataset into an array, then put the array into the combo box.

I am trying to get my head around datasets, etc. The following code pulls data from an sql server and stores it in a data set. I then set the grid's datasoure to this data set. Now I want to populate a combo box on 'form load' with information from a field (surname) within the authors table.How do I approach this? I can do it in design mode but I want to do it in code as I feel you get a better understanding of what is happening under the hood.
I am working on my media program which utilizes the amazon ecs web service. So far it does a search and pulls a list of image url's for the dvd covers.
Is what I want to do is take those image urls and somehow feed them into a datagridview, so that the user can scroll through the images and choose the right one.

I'm using Visual Basic 2010. I have my dataset in my program. I'm have several combo boxes on the form that I was able to bind the particular table with the information from each table to most of the combo boxes by dragging and dropping them onto the combo boxes. However, one combo box in particular must be populated by code. When a user selects, let's say "a" from one combo box, I need the next combo box to display information in certain tables only, based upon their choices in the previous combo box.
I have a form that allows use the use to change the Email address to be sent to and that is save in a my.setting. my issues is that the Email is in a variable to be used and Dim sendTo As New MailAddress("Email Address")well I cant figure out how would i variablize the "Email address" I tried to place a Variable just says its not a address because it a variable. but it work if i put in a email as a hardcode.
I have been reading books and the forums for a rew days now trying to work out how to use any control to carry out the following:Basically, I want to display a selection e.g "Club Name" in a combobox (or similar control) and have the ID of that selection in a separate hidden column e.g. "ClubID". This will allow me to easily reference and store the actual "ClubID" in the required record when I save it back to the database.I can not use the "SelectedIndex" property of the control as the combobox is populated from a 'sorted' stored procedure so the "SelectedIndex" does not match the actual index of the selection.

I am trying to create a combo box that would display data from a dataset, and also a 'Please Select' as the first item. I have written the following code which derives from a combo box and it works fine in visual studio 2003 but in 2008 would not display the comboboxtext (which is 'Please select').

I have a form that i am using for my ticket software where i am wanting to take the section combo box an have it only display the sections out of my dataset. here is something like i am wanting to do. this is my data table
Section Row No. Seat No. A A 2 A A 4 A A 6
Then it go to
A B 2 A B 4
I want to have a combo box for each one Section, Row#, Seat# and when I drop down the box for section it will just give me the section and then when I go to the Row# box and drop it down it will give me just the rows in that section and then in the seat box it just gives me the seats in that row.
I am trying to develop a report that displays the result of a query that returns two tables. The first table is always a single row of values, the second should be a grid. I can get a report to display either independently, however it will not allow me put them both on the same report.
I have a dataset that I'm trying to loop through to be able to save any changes made to that dataset and update my database doing so. Is that possible? I've seen that it's possible to do it with datatables but not datasets. If so, can someone offer a starting point for me to learn with?
What is the best place (event/procedure) to use the newest record when navigating from record to record on a form.
For example, I want to do a calculation on 2 text boxes that are bound to a dataset. This calculation will be done each time a new record is navigated to.
Today i have been checking out the concept of datasets and i like the way they work except for a minor issue i have with it.The following code should get a databasetable and put it in a dataset and return that set to the user.[code]I submit the table name and it will select it, read it and fill the dataset with it, then return it. And it does exactly that once.If i try to re-read the same datatable it just returns the exact same dataset as the first time yet i am 100000% sure that i changed it .
