I use the following code to insert some data into a DB:
strSQL = "INSERT INTO tblItems(itmTitle, itmCode, itmImage)"
strSQL += " VALUES('" + txtItemTitle.Value.Trim + "','" + txtItemCode.Value.Trim + "','" + c + "');"
[Code]...
With the DB table having an additional field called: itmID which is an Autonumber field so I dont need to add any data to this field.
But after the above SQL code has been executed I want to get the itmID number assigned to the new record - but I am not sure how to do this.
Im thinkin maybe using SELECT function but with WHERE filtering by the details I have just added but dont know if there is a simpler way.

I am trying to insert some data in my database. The destination table has a column named 'External' and one other called 'Internal'. these columns are identical except for the name. They are both yes/no type with the database created in Access. When ever I enter a new row I change the value of one of these columns depending on which I want to alter. When I try to alter the 'Internal' column I get no problem but when I try to alter the 'External' column I get a syntax error. I have tried the same query excluding the External column and everything works just fine. [Code]

Does anyone know of any reason why my FilmID field (which is an autonumber) is going backwards? When I add a new record, it is going -1, -2, -3, -4, instead of carrying on from the last number. If you need the code, just ask, but I was thinking it might be something in properties or something?

This my code in VB.NET. My try catch says there is a syntax error in the instruction INSERT INTO. I don't know what happened to my INSERT. I searched for the error for over an hour... I'm not an expert in VB.NET, I'm better in C#, but I need to do this anyway in VB..

writing user info such as user, computer name, date, and time to an acces database using a button click event. Then use a query to check if the user has accepted the aggreement. If the user has accepted the aggreement then call a vb.exe that display the aggrement. I have a login script that runs the vb.exe and uses a button click that records the user info to a csv file, but if the user has already agreed to the policies I do not want it run again.

I'm new to VB and am trying to create something that will change specific words within a DB entry to a random word from a table. My goal is to change swear words to a random word in a separate table (like darn, dang, waterstopper, etc.) So far I have an "Input" table with the text I need to change and a "SwearRep" table with a list of words I need to replace in col "WBad" and their replacements in "WGood".

As you can see below in the code the " & tblName & " will work fine but instead of using the BankName (which the user cannot change because it is in the code) I would like to do the same as I did with the Table name and use a variable that gets its name from an excel spreadsheet rather that an actual name hard coded in a VBA module. I would like the variable field name entered in the Excel Spreadsheet by the user just like the table name is filled in by the user. The problem is getting the ADO SQL string ( cmd.CommandText = "ALTER TABLE " & tblName & " Add Column BankName Char(25)" ) to recognize that the value in the Variable " & fldName & " is the field name to be used.
Sub AddFieldToAccess()
Dim cnn As ADODB.Connection
Dim cmd As ADODB.Command
[code]....
'If I do this I end up with a field named BankName what I need is the name in the variable " & fldName & "
cmd.CommandText = "ALTER TABLE " & tblName & " Add Column BankName Char(25)"
cmd.Execute , , adCmdText
Set cmd = Nothing
[code]....

Dim cnn As SqlConnection
connetionString = "Data Source='" & txtHost.Text & "';Initial Catalog='" & txtDatabase.Text & "';User ID='" & txtUser.Text & "';Password='" & txtSenha.Text & "'"
cnn = New SqlConnection(connetionString)
cnn.Open()
cnn.Close()
How I read to SQL using "SELECT * FROM table ORDER BY rand()", select a random column and send the value "User" and "Password" of this column to Label1 and Label2.

I need to do a lookup in a DatagridView column. I would like something with the blazing speed of what recordset.seek used to provide. I am assuming that a similar function/method is available for use with the DVG. What else is there to use that is better than my present implementation.

I have a DataGridView binded to a DataSet that I created using the Visual Studio Data Source Configuration Wizard. Everything works good except for one problem.I have two columns, Modified_By and Date_Modified that should be inserted or updated as the user and the current date, respectively. So every row in the DataGridView should have the same value for these two columns.So far, I have thought of two ways to get this working, but neither one seems very clean. The first idea is to make a custom Fill method that takes as parameters the user and the current date and then add them as extra columns in the select method. For example

I'm using vb2005. I'm writing a little application which allows a person to type in a new value in a combobox (which I've bound to a field in a table) which can be updated to the database. I then refresh the dataAdapter by clearing it and re-filling it again when the user saves a new item. That part works fine. My problem occurs when the user selects a stationary item from the combobox. The first select works fine until they try to select another item. Then I get the following error: ConstraintException was unhandled: Column 'TYPE' is constrained to be unique. Value 'False' is already present.

I have a datagrid that I am populating from an Access 2000 query in Visual Basic 2008.
This code works fine:
With dgvCollections
.Columns(0).Visible = False
.Columns(1).Width = 235
.Columns(2).Width = 230
.Columns(3).Width = 220
.Columns(4).Width = 70
.Columns(4).HeaderText = "Loan"
End With
The query works fine, except that I want to change the alignment for one of the columns. I tried to add this line before the "End With":
.Columns(4).DefaultCellStyle.Alignment.MiddleCenter()
Which causes the error:
"Access of shared member, constant member, enum member or nested type through an instance; qualifying expression will not be evaluated."
And this error:
"Expression is not a method."

I had a DataGridView that was bound to a Table in my typed DataSet. I recentyl added a new column to the table in the database and updated the table in the DataSet accordingly.Now, when I go to the DataGridView to update it, the new column does not appear under the "Databound column" list. I tried setting the data source to "None", then reselecting it. Still, it does not show the new column. I then deleted the DataGridView and re-added it to the form. Again, same result. However, when I select the data source, then click "Preview Data", it show the added column.
