Currently what I have been doing is retrieving all the records then one-by-one cylcing through each record until I have the last 10. To me this seems to have a lot of over-head reading each record. I just wondered if there was a quicker way of doing it.

I need to convert a large VB6 app to vb.net which does a lot of database work and produces a Crystal Report. The initial form is simple a login form which validates the user. I am trying to use a datareader to retrieve the user's login info but it won't compile on the statement where I'm trying to get the Connection String from the app.config file. It complains that the ConfigurationManager is not declared on the dim statement. Where and how do I declare the ConfigurationManager? But Since most use Excel for data-entry, i've created two tables in access linked to excel source file. Any change in excel will reflect in Access database and subsequently in my Application . Until now my application only reads the database and displays records in DataGridView. These records, i then export to excel along with other formatting for direct printing as a report as I have no idea how to make report. Now i want to add data-entry capability to my app using password-protection user-access. So i can directly add new record to source file. Also need to know if There's any way of eliminating Access from the picture entirely....

i'm currently making a program that converts every letter into some other letter creating a secret message that only this program can convert back into english. Could some help me with the convert code? I understand i would need 2 textbox's and 1 button at the least.The button would place textbox1.text into textbox2.text then it will convert lets say (if textbox2.contains "a" then) i dont know after that. i would want it to change the "a" to "g" instead. without doing any other change.
