Datagridview Not Reporting Rowcount After Refresh

Jan 11, 2010

I have a problem with a datagridview control, when first loaded with existing data it shows the correct rowcount figure. However, I have a function that when invoked triggers an oledbcommand to clear those records from the database (access) and load new ones from a file (excel/text).The oledbcomands work fine, and the gridview refreshes with the new data fine. However, the rowcount after this refresh is always 0, even with records. What I am doing is creating a module for my app that allows the user to specify the column title and types for a file import - and the procedure will read the header row from a txt/csv or excel file automatically.[code]If I just make edits in the datagridview (as in not invoke the above) the rowcount returns properly. If I close and re-open the form the new data appears, and the rowcount property returns fine also, but I don't really want to have to tell the user to close and re-open it before making any changes.I must be missing something on the refresh or with the datatable or adapter side of things.

SQLServer To DataAdapter To DataGridView Causing Memory Loss?

Aug 26, 2010

I have an application putting new data into a database so I want to use a DataGridView to display the data. I have a timer triggering every 5 seconds and running this UpdateGridFromDatabase() routine every cycle.
It works, but I can see my application memory usage going up by 10kB every 5 seconds until my computer with 6GB of RAm & 64 bit Windows 7 grinds to a halt! Can anyone see at a glance what I am doing wrong? I am trying to open & close everything as necessary. I have also dimmed two variables outside - I had then inside previously and it didn't make any difference.

Why Does Dgv.RowCount Returns &H7

I want to get the row count of my datagridview. I currently use this code below. But the RowCount value is &H7. I have 7 rows displayed in the datagridview. The code below seems to work, but I don't understand what &H7 means. Does it have something to do with Hexadecimals?

' tell user if no results are available to update

Too Many Controls Causing Flicker?

May 20, 2009

I'm using VS2005. On my old Win XP AMD computer, I developed a stock price chart in VB.net which I could scroll left/right with Hscrollbar. However my old PC failed due to faulty AMD motherboard. Now I'm using an Intel PC with Win XP and same VS2005. My VB.net solution has compiled and runs as it did before - with this difference. Sometimes my scrollbar flashes and sometimes it doesn't. Another thread mentioned "too many controls causing flicker" - but my Form does not have many controls on it. I can't find a property that mentions "flashing" when I search the scrollbar class members.

Inheritance Is Causing Ambiguous Error?

Oct 11, 2011

I am currently programming a complicated inheritance structure for an Insurance Application. One DLL has classes that can be used and inherited from. DLL Two has Classes specific for our Auto Line of business, however when i attempt to use Object 2 from a Web Application it errors out because one of the classes is ambiguous because it appears that DLL Two inherits a class from DLL One which appears to pull in the entire inherited class. Since the Web app has a reference to both DLL One and Two, One has the class, Two seems to also have it and so compilation errors out with an ambiguous class in the same namespace.

To attempt to get more specific ill try a quick run down.DLL One - PGPolicy.dll contains standard classes with properties and methods needed for every line of business such as:

Policy, Name, NamedInsured, Unit
DLL Two - PGPolicyAuto.dll contains the following Auto specific classes:
Vehicle Inherits from Unit
Driver Inherits from Name

Since PGPolicy.dll contains classes needed by all lines of business and PGPolicyAuto.dll has more specific classes for the Auto line of business, the web application references both of them. The problem is that since Driver inherits the Name class, it appears to create a Name class in the same name space that the PGPolicy.dll has the namespace in, which gives me an Ambiguous class "Name" in the PG.Policy Namespace.

Missing Components Causing Crash

May 31, 2009

I am running into problems with my compiled .exe on other machines. On some computers it works, on others it doesn't (all using Windows XP with the .NET framework installed). When I run the .exe on some computers it crashes right away and hits the 'Send error report' dialog. On others it runs just fine. I'm pretty sure this has to do with missing components, but how can I fix it so it works for all computers? How do I find out which components are missing?

Add Controls Dynamically At Runtime Causing Error

May 4, 2010

What I'm trying to do is build 16 forms dynamically at runtime (all will be identical). These 16 forms each will display a camera, which is using an ActiveX control made by a 3rd party. I am able to create the forms correctly and provide all necessary parameters for each control, but since I have to declare my own AddHandler event which checks if the camera connected, I need to somehow reference the ActiveX control at runtime, but I can't tell it which form it's on because it says it's not declared.[code]...

Application.doevents() Causing Some Sort Of Overlap?

Audio Causing Imagery Movement To Stagger?

May 28, 2009

i'm working on something like a slot machine reel spinning with images on it.I've constructed a long image, dynamically, and have that image now stored in memory.I'm able to simulate that image "spinning" nicely by moving it vertically within a panel, and having it repeat. This is taking place in a separate "timer" function.

This seems to move quite smoothly until (on some machines) I output a bit of audio. I'm using the format:

My.Computer.Audio.Play(SoundFile3, AudioPlayMode.Background)

The SoundFile3 is simply a physical path to an audio file. When I call this function for the audio, and when it's not a powerhorse pc, it disrupts the spinning, and the spinning acts a little crazy/random.

Is there a more efficient approach for audio, like storing it in memory ahead of time?I'm tempted to go the multi-thrad approach to try to get the option of multiple sounds at the same time, but I don't know ifthat will help or hurt the situation. And I don't know how that's done.

Event Causing Error - Cannot Catch Exception

Apr 22, 2010

A developer has created a custom control in ASP.NET using VB.NET. The custom control uses a repeater. In certain scenarios, the rpt_ItemDataBound event is encountering a data error. My goal is rather than having the user see the yellow screen of death, give the user a friendlier error explaining exactly what the data error is. I figured I would be able to use a Try/Catch block as shown below throw the exception, however, it appears that the event has nowhere to be thrown to and stops executing at the "End Try" line.

Protected Sub rpt_ItemDataBound(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.RepeaterItemEventArgs) Handles rpt1.ItemDataBound, rpt2.ItemDataBound
Try
ProcessBadData...
Catch ex As Exception
Throw ex
End Try
End Sub

In VB.NET, I can find where the repeater's DataSource is being set, however, I can not find a DataBind event. How I can capture the exception in this ASCX control so I can report it to the user. The stack trace looks like this. There is another repeater within the repeater that is actually causing the error (rptOther) and I'm able to catch the error, but I can only throw it to the rpt_ItemDataBound. How rpt_ItemDataBound is getting called without a DataBind event.

Users are required to print this form but for some reason, they forget to do so.In the event that they forget to print this form, they are taking back to the input screen with boxes still retaining the data they initially entered. Is there a way to redirec them to results.aspx page, whether they print the form or not?

Process.BeginOutputReadLine() Causing VSHOST.EXE To Fail?

May 31, 2010

This code seems to be accurate when comparing to the many examples that are similar on different forums and I would think it should work:

Dim pC As New Process
pC.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = True
pC.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = True[code]....

When I remove the pC.BeginOutputReadLine() command, the application continues to function, but nothing is added to lbOutput.

With the pC.BeginOutputReadLine() command, it gives the error "vshost.exe has stopped working"

Either way, my batch file does what its supposed to do. Any one have any ideas what I am doing wrong with the process?

Rookie With Events Causing Action After Hitting F5

Aug 4, 2010

I can do the basics when I put controls on a form but this one is a little more complex. I have an application that reads in a .TSV and populates a form with controls based on the number of objects it "reads." So for instance: I have a file that contains 10 people objects and my code populates a form with controls for each person. Easy stuff..Now lets say I have a ComboBox with the items: "Alive", "Deceased", "Unborn". Right next to this I have a textbox for age. Now originally, this textbox is not enabled because the default value for the ComboBox is "Unborn". But lets say when the user selects "Alive", I want that textbox to become enabled so an age can be entered.Obviously from me asking this and the title of this question, I don't know how to go about doing this. I don't really understand events and I learn by example but the MSDN examples don't quite cut it.

Since I had to have access to the clipboard to get the data and parse it, I had to be in STA. Unfortunately, just putting the STA before the Main() (or any other sub) did not keep the service in single thread mode. So I had to create a new thread and join it like so:

Public Class CMS
