I have a DataViewGrid that is populated with emp records sorted by a 'header' record listing the managers name. Currently, the user is a ble to select any row, even the manager row. I want to modify the program to prevent users from being able to select the manager record or 'header' record
View 9 RepliesI have some very long datasets how can i setup so they wrap in the Datview grid rows??
View 2 RepliesI can get the collection of selected rows but I cannot find a way to determine which is the first selected row. E.g. the table has 20 rows, the user selects rows 3,4,5,6 using the mouse on the rowheaders. How can I determine that the selection starts at row 3?
View 1 RepliesI am using VS2008 using VB. I have a datagridview sourced to a dataset. There are 5 fields mapped to the datagridview, three are read only. I am using the 'RowLeave' event to do some processing.
I am using the 'CellEnter' event to 'SendKeys" a tab in the read only cells. The question is simple: how do I allow the user to enter data into one of the 'editable' cells and change the 'Enter' key into a 'Tab' key, so that the data they entered is in the cell and I tab over to the next 'editable' cell, even if it is in the next row?
I'm trying to figure out how to get a query for multiple columns in my dataviewgrid.. So far i havn't even been able to make a single column query work, when i search something in First_Name for example, it returns nothing. ive used query builer, ive written the code myself, nothing seems to work.
View 3 RepliesI added a DVG to the form. Then I clicked on the small box and selected a data source through the design screen. I chose the connection and then the sproc to get the data. This all works fine. That was added in the Load sub automatically. I will make changes to the cells by code rather than allowing the user to change the cells themselves. Then I want to click a button and save the changes to the table. Everything I have tried does not work.
View 7 RepliesI am trying to search a Access Db via a TextBox1 a Button1 and a dataviewgrid. My sql statement loks like this:
Select LastName FROM Clients WHERE (LastName LIKE 'TextBox1.text')
This doesn't work I have tried '" & "' around the textbox words I've tried '& TexBox1 &'. This I tried to learn from Data over forms video-- LIKE @LastName +'%' that really didn't work. If I use = "Bla bla" it will work but the LIKE word does not. Even a point in the right direction. I've spent many many many hours on this. And what makes me mad is I've done it somhow before even with a combobox as a variable in the SELECT "var" but anywayI'm wondering now if the LIKE statement isn't used in Access? and if the % wildcard is used in Access?
I wanted my search result to display in the DataViewGrid but it shows nothing when i click the search button or anything i did wrong?

I am trying to use a DataViewGrid to show certain transactions.I also have a TextBox for the user to enter the transaction ID to fill the DataViewGrid. In the Query Builder it works if I give the NABTransID in the Query but I want it to read the TextBox1.text to find the transactions.

on my Form I have a DataViewGrid and some textboxes with a save button (they are filled with additional data of the selected row).Save is disabled first, when I change something in the textboxes the save button is enabled. When the user changes a gow in the grid, I want to ask before changing the grid row, if he wants to save (if the button is enabled).I am using RowEnter but this is too late, then the selected row already changed (and my textboxes already got new data)...What event can I use to ask if I should save stuff before the user changes a row?Something like BeforeRowChanging with a chance to cancel changing the row?
View 2 Repliesi want to take a comma delimited text file and then select all unique records based on one of the fields in the text file. should i read the text file into a data table or just use a data reader?
View 7 RepliesHi, i'm trying to use the treeview to display the text of a rtf (rich text file) file when an specific node if clicked.HomeOMGWOOTFor example, if i pick OMG, i want the text of lol.rtf to be displayed on a richtextbox. But somehow i just can't manage to get it... I know to import the text of a .txt file to a textbox, but using the treeview makes it more complicated. This is the code im using right now:
Private Sub TreeView1_NodeMouseClick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.TreeNodeMouseClickEventArgs) Handles TreeView1.NodeMouseClick
Select Case e.Node.Index
Case 0
[code]....
Another thing is, that i can't import the *.rtf text into a richtextbox and i don't know why.
So I'm in the final stages of finishing a program I've been working on for nearly a year now, and this is basically my final hurdle. The Save dialogue is working beautifully, with 'flags' in order to switch it over from the regular input into text boxes to the Listbox input protocol.
However, I'm having a *** of a time getting it to take lines from the text file and put them in the proper text box. Here is an example file:
Quote:
SHOWNAME
CALLNAME
BREED
[Code]....
So with the sample file I provided above, in the textbox named callNameText would appear "SHOWNAME", and so on and so forth. With this build, I get a NullReferenceException on the "Me.Controls(strboxNames(i)).Text() = strAllText(ati)" line.

I want to create a text file or see if a text file exists when application starts. The problem I was having was after creating the text file, I tried to write to text file and got an error saying that another process was using it.
Dim test As String = My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.MyDocuments & " est1.txt"
If System.IO.File.Exists(test) Then
MsgBox("File Loaded")

I looked up topics on filestream, but am unsure if this is how to use it. Is my code ok? Is there another way to create a text file?
I save data from datagridview to text file. I also load the same data from text file into datagridview for edit and update the same thing to text file. Let say this text file i called as Drill.txt. I have another text file called header.txt which need to match its value with the value of Drill.txt file then overwrite value from Drill.txt to header.txt. Now i want to make my Drill.txt in encrypted format to prevent anyone to open that file and modify out of program. They only can modify it through the program

i have 5 textboxes in a form. I have a streamwriter that writes all of their text to on text file like this:
Code:
Dim xfile As String = Application.StartupPath & "/Set.txt"
If File.Exists(xfile) = True Then
Dim writex As StreamWriter = New StreamWriter(xfile)

I was wondering how to get the text under the each number and place it in the corresponding textbox.
I am using a thread to call a process which is spliting a text file into various text file and folder using the system.io , now when calling the Textsplit() with thread on click of a button i am getting the error below , how to use thread and why this error occurs.
Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'txtbox_destn' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.
I am trying to ping a text file("C:/Domains.txt") which is a list of domains, then have the resulting IP address written to a different text file ("C:/IP_Addresses.txt"). And this action will be done with a Button_Click.
View 8 RepliesAll I would like to do is remove one character from the line of the text file that I am reading, which is the first character and also prevent the program from crashing if no text file is present. Here is the code. Can anyone notice where I am going wrong? I thought the "if" statement would cover the crash but it didn't. Clueless, but sort of have an idea on the character removal.

what would be the optimum code in VB2010 that check a file to determine:
1) is it a text file, and
2) if it is a text file, does it contain any non-ASCII characters
Note that LF, CR, and EOF would be expected, and should not be flagged. I can think of 3 - 4 ways to do it, but there may be a 'best' way in terms of simplicity and speed.
i need to search through the host file on pc to check whether entries contained within another text file are in the file.

View 4 RepliesI have a very large text file about 4 million lines that I would like to separate into several small text files based on the strings contained in the first column of the text file. I want to open the large text file, choose the lines that apply, create a new text file with a name that has a number at the end of which will match up with the value in the first column of the text file. I want to then copy the applicable lines to the new small text file, save and close it. I'm not sure how to go about doing this after opening the large text file and using the readline method. What if the folder does not exist? Do we have to create it? I want this procedure to be general, as there could be up to 25 million lines in the text file.
