I'm looking to create a simple program with 1 text field, 1 button, and an area to display what is happening and if there were any errors.My goal is to be able to delete user profiles stored on a network drive by simply putting in the users ID and hitting the button.I'll use my own id as an example:If I put mdesieno in the txt box and hit the button, I'll need the button to map to the network drive and delete mdesieno.corp and mdesieno.v2 I would like the bottom half of the window to display text like:

To me this seems pretty simple, but as I said, I do not know VB yet. Is there code out there that is already written to do something like this?

2012-06-14 = date
T = time identifier
10:49:32.397 = hour min second milliseconds
-07:00 = I have no idea

t converts it to this in MySQL

View 1 RepliesI have two datetimepickers on my form to set a start date and end date for a SQL server database query. I am passing these dates with parameters to my query from the .Value of the datetimepickers. When I run the program, the code returns an error of "Conversion failed when converting datetime from character string" I am not converting anything in my code. It is my understanding that the StartDatePicker.Value is already a datetime and does not require conversion.

"The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value" In the development server the problem never happened. Both production and development servers have the same OS (Windows Server 2003), updates and settings including the regional settings options. The regional options is set to Arabic (Saudi Arabia) and the date is customized to use (English) gorgerin calendar. The non-Unicode is set to Arabic (Saudi Arabia).

Im having an issue with a Stored Procedure I have written,I can call it in management studio and it works fine, yet calling it from my codebehind gives this error The conversion of a varchar data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range value. when i call da.Fill(dt)What is really puzzling me here is that I dont actually convert anything from varchar to datetime, the most I do with the date variables is format them into a different datetime format.

I'm using VB Express 2008 and MS SQL Express 2008. I have a couple of tables in my SQL database and among them are some log tables that track changes in the data entries of the substantive tables and fields I have. I have one log table fore each of the datatypes that appear in my substantive tables.
For example any change to any field in a substantive table where the field is of a bit type will be logged to the BitTypeLogTable. All of my log files are structured essentially the same. For example the structure for my BitTypeLogTable looks like this:
The other logs are identical except that the OrigValue and NewValue fields have different datatypes according to the datatype they are intended to track. For example the datatypes for those fields in the DatetimeTypeLog is datetime and in the MoneyTypeLog is money.
Each of the substantive tables in my database has three triggers which cause entries to be made to the log tables when the substantive fields are changed. For example, one of the UpdateTriggers looks like the following:

I have a really interesting task I need to code and I'm stuck. The application I'm creating Takes the mute button on my laptop and triggers an even when the mute button is pressed.
The issue is I found when the mute button is pressed, the computer sends the v_key code for volume down in a rapid rate. What I want to do is display the v_key code and a time stamp in a text box:
When I press the mute key, the v_key code and time stamp are displayed for every instance that code is thrown. The same goes for un-mute.I'm having issues with my application not triggering the event when the mute is pressed because the computer is shooting out the v_key code so many times, so fast.
My plan is to create a kind of de-bounce logic- IF the v_key code is detected x amount of times in y timespan then.To do this I need to know how fast and how many times this code is occuring.
Any direction or ideas on how to go about this?

I am creating a user control that contains a panel as well as 4 string and integer properties. I would like to display the text of the properties in the user control during design time.
View 3 RepliesI'm creating a program in VB.net that does the following:At a high level I receive a file in email, put the attachment in a monitored folder, import the text file to excel, format the excel, and then email the excel file to a list of recipients.
Here is my plan:
Completed: Outlook VBA to monitor all incoming email for specific message. Once message is received drop attached .txt file in a specific network folder.
Completed: (VB.net) Monitor folder, when text file is added begin processing
Not Complete: (VB.net) Import text file to Excel
Not Complete: (VB.net) Format Excel Text file.(add in a row of data,format column headers with color/size, add some blank columns, add data validation to some of the blank columns that allow drop down selections)
Completed: (VB.net) Save file.
Completed: (VB.net) Send file to list of recipients.
Obviously the items above that are not complete are the bulk of the work, but I wanted to get some advice on what some of you think would be the best way to approach something like this. The import and formatting of the file are causing me some problems because I just can't decide what would be the most efficient way to do this.

Import to excel -> format Having a template excel that contains all of the formatting already done for me and attempting to transition the data to this document (no clue if/how I can do this). Is it even feasible? Have the template already created and then import the text file to a new excel file, then transition that data to the excel template?
Something I thought about, in terms of formatting the document, was to record a macro of me doing all of the formatting that I'm going to need and then attempt to convert that macro into my vb.net code, but I'm not sure if that will work. I will need to verify that the text file comes in the EXACT format every time correct?
I want to filter my results with respect to date and time....I have date stored in a separate field which is of datetime data type...Another field stores Time value but as it is a datetime data type so it stores current system date along with the entered time. Now when I filter results using date then it runs well and shows the results between specific period like between dates from 12/10/2011 and 12/15/2011...But when I want to show results with respect to time it doesn't show any results...

Actually I have datetime value stored in the database. What I am taking from the textbox is a time value. I need to obtain time values from a SQL DB. However, I was able to set the datatype for the respective column in the SQL table only to "datetime" as there is no "time" option in the dropdown list in the Visual Web Developer. Namely, I want to bind a Listbox control only to the time data (i.e. not to "dd-mm-yyyy hh:mm:ss"). I tried to convert the datetime values to string and then extract the last 9 chars that refer to time.Unfortunately, my attempts to do that with SubString have failed:
