Best Method Of Remotely Controlling/debugging A .NET Application?
Apr 25, 2011I'm running a VB.NET application 24 hours a day on a dedicated machine. I'd like to be able to receive status updates and also control/debug the application remotely (i.e. from another computer via the internet).It would be an advantage if the communication was lightweight (in terms of bytes sent and received) so I can control the thing without needing a fast internet connection. Also, I'm running the application from within the IDE at the moment because there are some unhandled exceptions and it's easier to debug this way. It would be nice if I didn't have to compile it and catch all the errors.What is the easiest way to set something like this up, and what do I need to be aware of in terms of security?
Update:To clarify what input I need to give the application - in theory, none. If all went to plan I'd just set the application off and reading some sort of log would be fine. The problem is that it is unstable (mainly because it calls a web service which is very unstable and returns all sorts of weird things) and therefore seems to need constant input on my part.
It was my thinking that the only way I could do this sort of debugging remotely is by catching every error I could, reading the log, and somehow instructing the application to behave properly in future.

Then it goes on to say "WRN: Assembly binding logging is turned OFF. To enable assembly bind failure logging, set the registry value[HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftFusion!EnableLog] (DWORD) to 1.
Note: There is some performance penalty associated with assembly bind failure logging. To turn this feature off, remove the registry value [HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftFusion!EnableLog]. I am running Vista.

My.Blogs Error - ProjectType Value Did Not Exist
Feb 8, 2006I am trying to install the My.Blogs sample. I am running VS2005 Pro on WindowsXP Pro SP2. The template installation fails with the error message:
Installation stopped because the directory for the ProjectType value did not exist. The project type is invalid for your installation of Visual Studio.
Is My.Blogs a beta2 only thing? I am running release VS2005. Are there manual instructions for installing this via file copy?
Also: the error message suffers from poor design. Of more use would be something along the lines of "The project type 'inserttype' is invalid for your installation of Visual Studio, which I detect is: 'insert detected VS version'.

Nov 23, 2010We have a program called MasterPack (old school dos style) which we generate quotes from and this picks up a quote.doc in a folder called Quotes in the C drive which is a mail merge document and populates all the fields. There are 3 files in this Quotes folder,quote.doc, QUOTE.txt, and quote.hedRecently one of my employees had his PC upgraded to a new unit and it came with Office 2007 (previously used 2003) and now we have this run time errorSo what happens now is we go through the steps and then it gets to the "Opening this document will run the following SQL command" and click Yes to continue, the SQL msg comes up again (that never happened before) so we click yes again. It thinks then opens the word doc and populates the fields but then the run time error window pops up and if we choose "End" the merge fields are not populated and return to the merge field names EG. <<CustName>> etc etc.

Error Debugging WCF Service Library With CRM 4
Jul 3, 2012i am building a WCF Service Library that has to check our CRM database. Unfortunately when i try to debug the service with the WCF Test Client i receive a "Failed to invoke the service" error. I have stripped down the service slowly adding things back in to help figure out what is causing the error. I found out that it is cause when i call a new instance of my CRM service object. Is there something that i need to do in order to fix this error and be able to step through the service to debug it??

Jan 19, 2006I am running on the VB8 and expirienced an error during debugging after some changes in "My project" area. I have noticed (on two different machine) that after change for example Startup Form or Security Area, I am not able to debug program any longer. An error appears, telling me that:
The Operation Could not be completed.
After clicking OK (nothing else is available) and next try of debugging, another error message appear:
Visual Studio could not copy a support file to this location: "path". Please verify the path exists and is writeable. After that, I have to close Visual Basic and restart it. Than everything works fine...till next change of "My project"

Nov 18, 2008I am working with visual studio 2008, developing a simple windows form app. in VB. but a very weird situation has presented itself (at least I think its weird).When I try F5 or any other way to start the debugger I get this message:"Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debugging.The debugger cannot connect to the remote computer. This may bebecause the remote computer does not exist or a firewall may be preventing communication to the remote computer. Please see Helpfor assistance."Needless to say, Help is Helpless.The weird thing about it is that this only appears if my computer is not connected to the home network and only in VB. When I try to debug on any other language it works fine, or if I connect to the network then VB debugs fine. I do not think I am using a remote debugger.

I have a textbox called "Search" and a Go button.
