I am trying to create a new library (.dll) for use in my SSIS project. I dont have any prior experience of creating these kind of projects. So please bear with me.

I'm testing my Visual Basic .net application by running it in Visual Studio express.Sometimes it runs OK, but other times I get an exception (details below, if useful). I'm not sure why I get the exception as the particular part of the application that I am testing re-uses code that works OK for other features.
What should I check, what would give me a hint as to the root cause. Things I tried so far are: Rewriting some of the code to be more robust. The outcome of this was that this approach was getting out of control - I was correcting everything. I made changes such asing alternative libraries (e.g. replacing CInt with convertTo etc). Some lazy declarations, but it occurred to me that there was no problem with these with the code before my changes. And every change I seemed to solve uncovered yet another problem, another different exception So I thought something must be fundamentally wrong with my installation, and a search found discussion group posts from people experiencing something similar. The suggested remedy would be to re-install the .net framework. So I did that and the problems still occured.
Any thoughts on approach to get to the root of the problem? I'm not asking for a solution but some fresh ideas would be very welcome.

I have an desktop application that references several dlls. All are targeted for .Net 3.5, x86. The applicaiton has been deployed for several years and was upgraded from visual studion 2008 to 2010 last year. I have made several changes to the app since then (as recently as last Thursday) with out any issues. Now, everything builds, but when I run the application, I get a type initialiazer error when one of the projects is loaded by the main application.
The error messsage is {"Could not load file or assembly 'System.Drawing, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.":"System.Drawing, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"}.
There were no changes to this project since the last successfuly deployment last week, but today I am getting this error.

I'm having to write a reporting application that gets information from some Interbase servers and it also has to work on Vista as well as XP, I'm using to connect Borlands Data Provider.[code]My Issue is that debugging on my xp Machine the dataset gets filled, debugging on my vista box it fails ("Interbase provider initialization failed"), my initial thought was that this could be UAC related but I've compiled the application and 'ran as admin' and still same issue. (by the way it failes on the line Dim da as BdpDataAdapter...)
View 1 RepliesI am trying to use sample FedEx Web Service code written in VB.NET to retrieve shipping rates.
The call returned rate information, but it returned rates that are way too high and do not match those shown on their web site for the same shipping parameters.
Their support team is willing to investigate the discrepancy if I can provide them the XML data, SOAP transaction I presume, but I do not know how to get at this.
From the attached image, I guess you can tell what is my trouble.I press F5 then I get this pop-up.
View 8 RepliesI have a vb.net project which sometimes, when running in the IDE, suddenly hangs. Normally this wouldn't be a problem. Just hit 'pause', look at the currently running threads, and find the deadlock (or whatever else). But now I'm running into a situation where not only does the program hang, but trying to pause it causes visual studio itself to hang. In order to get control back, I have to kill the program-being-debugged's process, at which point visual studio comes back to life and says it was unable to pause execution. This is frustrating, because killing the process means the program state is lost (of course), so I don't know where the hang is.

View 2 RepliesI have a WPF application running in debug mode, and I would like to change the XAML while the application is still running. I'm not asking for Edit-and-Continue. I don't mind that I will have to restart the application for the changes to become effective. I just want to be able to make changes to the XAML file while the application is still running, rather than having to (1) remember what I want to change in the UI, (2) close the application, (3) recall what I want to change and make the change.

This is supposed to be an ASP.Net 2.0 project and at some point this has been rebuilt using 3.5.VS has kindly added in project level imports to System.Linq and System.Xml.Linq, but when I have re-targeted the project at 2.0 these project level imports have remained.Because the Web Service Application Project does not have the detailed window for editing project references I cannot find how to remove these project level imports.There is no .proj file which is where I would assume these were included.I cannot now build the project as it fails, even though I only get warnings (no errors reported) such as this:Namespace or type specified in the project-level Imports 'System.Linq' doesn't contain any public member or cannot be found. Make sure the namespace or the type is defined and contains at least one public member. Make sure the imported element name doesn't use any aliases.
View 3 RepliesSo in Visual Studio, you can't have two projects X and Y such that X references Y and Y references X.In general, I can totally understand how having a circular dependency can be problematic, for a variety of reasons.But is it really not possible to compile two projects that are interdependent in this way? It seems to me that it must be possible, since (in my mind -- maybe I'm completely off-base about this) having two mutually dependent assemblies is really not so different from having two mutually dependent classes -- a case which is legal and can be compiled.
It would make sense to me if you said, "two assemblies cannot depend on each other because the compiler could not compile one before the other"; except that it seems you could make the same argument for two classes within the same assembly, and clearly the compiler can deal with this scenario just fine.
Basically the reason I'm asking is not that I have some desperate desire to do this thing that I know is generally ill-advised anyway. Specifically I'm wondering because it would be nice if I could have two projects -- say, MyProjectCS and MyProjectVB -- that existed basically as two mutually dependent parts of a single unit, and were only separate because certain parts were written in C# and other parts were written in VB.NET.
Is it possible to enable this behavior (in Visual Studio, or elsewhere, for that matter)? If it's not possible within any IDE, it it at least theoretically possible, or could mutually dependent assemblies not possibly exist? If it's not even theoretically possible, why not? In other words, how are mutually dependent assemblies different from mutually dependent code within a single assembly?

View 2 RepliesI am unable to call public routines in a public class in AppCode.To debug, I built a new blank website project with a public class Class1 in AppCode and a public function Foo returning a string "Hello World".A sub CallFoo calls Foo without error if CallFoo is in Class1. If CallFoo is moved to a new class Class2 I get the above error.I have rebuilt this test site from scratch targeting Framework 3.5 and 4 with the same error. Oddly, I have found I am able to reference public constants without error.

I've got a form with a listbox on it.In a second form I inherit the complete first form. But when I try to use that listbox in the second form with e.g.Index = LstWoodshop.FindString (Order(0))(where LstWoodshop is that inherited Listbox) I get the error message:'LstWood shop' is not declared. Today I decided to come up with a program that would be useful for me in VB.net (I have never coded in VB.net before). Dont have any intellisense when creating a sample MVC3 app.Config files are fine, project compiles and works as it should when ran...Have MVC3 & MVC4 installed, same thing with each.Have VS2010 & VS11 installed (running fine side by side), same thing here... no intellisense.
