My plan is to create a form containing a directory tree showing the 8 Diskdrives in a visual way including the subdirectories. Maybe this is old fashioned and modern suggestions are Welcome. I use Access to store and view movies and pictures.

posted a discussion about a modified rendition of a function that John Wein came up with. I've been working with it some, trying to refine it. One thing I wanted to do is to avoid having any directories which are either system or hidden. Following is what I've come up with:
For Each D As String In Directory.GetDirectories(Dir)
' Do not include any that are either system or hidden
Dim dirInfo As New DirectoryInfo(D)

I can't figure out how to use the (because im noob)ystem.io.directory.getfilesIf I try to put it in a textbox for example textbox1.text = system.io.directory.getfiles("my directory") then I just get the error message "Value type of '1-dimensional string of array' cannot be converted to 'string'. First of all I have no idea what the '1-dimensional string of array'thing is.And if I try to put in a msgbox for example sgbox(system.io.directory.getfiles("my directory")) then I can run the program but when I click my button then it says "it can not convert argument prompt to string(google translated)". And second, I don't know what the prompt thing is either

This is the path: C:Users%USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalMozillaFirefoxProfiles*.defaultCache"
The ".default" folder will always have that extension, but the asterisk part is different on each PC.[code]...

We have an Oracle 11g R2(UNIX) server. A directory was created on this UNIX box for the purpose of uploading/downloading CSV files.I need to access this directory, programmatically from VB.Net in order to search for a specific file (a log file more precisely) and then open it it programmatically in Notepad from my Vb.Net application. I should also be able to delete or copy it to my local drive.I am trying to find a VB.Net code sample that would allow me to implement this: Read/Write/Open files on an UNIX directory.

I'm writing code to parse through a list of file directories and identify which AD groups have access. That info is available in the operating system under the file properties security tab, but I can't find any code examples that retrieve that info in vb.net (or c#). Anyone have code that will do that?

I wanted to create some CLR functions that will access Active Directory, but I discovered I can't add a reference to "System.DirectoryServices" to my CLR project.
I googled it, and found that I have to add the AD dll as an Assembly to the SQL Server. Like so:
CREATE ASSEMBLY [System.DirectoryServices]
FROM 'C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727System.DirectoryServices.dll'
WITH PERMISSION_SET = UNSAFE
GO
The problem here is that I have to set the "PERMISSION_SET = UNSAFE" to the dll... this means that I have to set the database as "TRUSTWORTHY ON", and this opens a can a worms!

I'm fiddling around with a small program that can delete a directory, including its sub-folders and files.This is the code I'm using: (Note-I found it on the net, I didn't code it myself)
Private Sub filedelete(ByVal filename As String)
Dim filesystemobject As Object
filesystemobject = CreateObject("Scripting.filesystemobject")[code]..........
So on click of button '2' the folders are cleaned out, and on click of button '3' they are deleted - it works great.Now the problem is, if any of the folders in the directory 'test' are not accessible to the current user, the program throws the exception 'Access to the path is denied.Is it possible to skip folders that are not accessible, and just ignore them, and delete the ones that are accessible?What code needs to be added to enable this ability?

I'm running in to a problem and all the google searching for the past 3 hours haven't solved it.I'm using Visual Studio 2008 on a Windows 7 Enterprise x64 OS.Programs Intended Use: This will be a pre-deployment assessment program, to be run by the end-user to calculate difficulty of the deployment(setting up of new computer) to see if we can send a student or send a full time staff.It will grab the username, computername, os, etc which are all already working. I want it to grab the size of the user profile (C:Users%Username of currently logged in person). This is where I'm having difficulty.The function works fine on the desktop folder, but on mydocs it comes up with access denied errors, as well as "LocalApplication Data" being access denied.[code]

I have a VB project that I created a simple setup project to deploy. It installs fine except for one problem. It crashes because it can't read its own application directory. Included with the program are an xml and schema file that it needs to read when starting.dditionally it may create a log file, also in its application directory. Either of these will return errors under the default install. This was not an issue when running the program in VS and if modify the program to work with another directly like C:Temp. I have a workaround in which I change the permissions of Users group to Full Control for the application directory

I am very experianced in setting up AD and networks and have recently decided to teach myself programing. I am getting there learning new things every day.One project I am near to compleating is to scan Active directory and then deposite the results in an access database.
I am useing system.directory.services I can use LDAP to search fo the information I need and I can even get the info to populate a list box I just can't seem to get at the data and then submit it to an access database. I have worked with databases and can use them for more simple tasks (using a form to add records to a database)

I am currently using the below code to upload a file and display progress. It works fine except there are a few things I would like to do differently.
I am using the main FTP account for my website which has access to all of my files. I set up a different FTP login to use that only has access to a specific folder, but when I try to use it I get: Error 550 No such file or directory or access denied.
This FTP account allows access to: mywebsite.com/upload/users/ only If strFTPAddress = mywebsite.com/upload/users/ I get error 550, I've tried a few other things too and it's told me that it's an invalid URI
Basically what I want to know is if and how I might be able to connect using my second FTP account so that I only have access to the upload/users/ directory.

I have a webForm app that registers a user in the database based on the information provided with a web service, auto-generates a random password and username, and e-mails the user a link to take an application based on the marketing company selected. How do I get only the currently logged in user's groups to show up under the MarketingCo_DropDownList. Each user allowed access to the system will have membership in at least one of the marketing groups as defined by the web.config. For example, a user that is currently logged in and belongs to the BIG group under location "algACOMP_user_BIG", will only be able to see BIG in the Marketing Company drop down list. A user that is currently logged in and belongs to the NIS group located under "algACOMP_user_NIS" will only be able to see NIS in the Marketing Company drop down list.
Here's my best guess (located under Private Sub GetMarketingCompanies() method in default.aspx.vb):
If InStr(WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Groups = "AMG", item.MarketingCompanyShort = "AMG", CompareMethod.Text) Then
marketingCo.Items.Add(String.Format("{0} | {1}", item.MarketingCompanyShort, item.MarketingCompanyName))
For Each item In ac1

My application creates a file by writing to System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory() & "data/" & filename...Now this works fine usually, but I just added a setup utility to the app, so now it installs to the program files directory. It installs correctly and creates the data folder, however when it tries to write the file it gets an exception "unauthorized access".
