I am having some trouble with some data I want to display on a form. The data is in a 2-D array, call it myarray(x,y). My attempts to display it have so far not worked. Similarly, I also need to read this data from the form back into an array for further calculations.

Even a primer on just reading/writing to a text file would be golden. The array confuses me further, but understanding the data is primary.
Basically, we're writing a program to manage inventory for a bar. Fields and a few lines are below. The delimiter is "||"
So... How do we read the data into the arrays? NAME would be strName(), etc for all of them.

I'd like it to use basic inheritance and a variety of data structures including queues, lists, arrays, or stacks in a windows forms application. I was thinking of a pizza-ordering application. This would allow them to utilize some basic inheritance and practice using .NET UI elements.

I am working on a program that will display the number of storms in a specified year. This program uses a text file with years 1990-2010 and the number of storms for each year.
txt file:

A user selects a year from a ComboBox (cboYear) and the program displays the number of storms using a label object (lblNumberOfStroms) for that year. The user then can click a button (btnDisplayStatistics) and the program will display using a label object, the number of storms for that year. This seems like a simple application but I am having trouble grasping the use of arrays concept.
It seems as if the propertygrid control cannot display property arrays. Is this the case?

I am trying to make this program that reads prices from a file and calculates the total for a certain amount of days and the total for all twelve days. It is for the 12 days o christmmas. The user selects which day(1-12) and the program calculates the total cost for that day and then the total cost for all 12 days. I need to make two separate arrays, one array to hold the twelve items and a second array to hold the twelve corresponding costs. The data needs to be read into the program one time. The arrays should be used to generate all output and calculate the costs. I have gotten the program working perfect, but I cant get it so the program only reads the txt file once.

I'm trying to read data from a text file with multiple records and fields separated by tabs to store into arrays, which I later want to output into a textbox on the form. The problem is that with the code I've written, when I debug it it exits the sub procedure when it enters the first loop where the parser is reading the text file. I'm trying to read multiple values from a registry subkey in the CurrentUser key. I need to display these values in a listbox with multiple lines. I so far can only get one of the values from the subkey. I know (or at least I think I know) that I need to list the values in a string (with a possible loop), and then just display the string to the listbox. The subkey is the TypedURLs under CurrentUserSoftwareMicrosoftInternet Explorer Typed URLs. Here is my code I have so far (I did a year of basic VB as part of my Uni course).[code]
View 4 RepliesI have created an application that uses two forms one is displayed on a touchscreen and is a basic input form, the other is displayed on a large display monitor and is basically an information form, both displays are connected to the same pc. The program works great I have just one annoyance is if the program is restarted it displays both forms on the touchscreen and I have to drag the information form onto the big display. Is there a way to specify on load that each form gets displayed maximized on a certain screen so I don't have to drag one form onto the correct screen?

View 4 RepliesI'm currently making a program that will be used to practice German. It reads from textfiles that have English words (noted by # prefix) and German words (noted by $ prefix). An example of this:

The way it currently works is it loads a text file, finds all # and splits to an array called "English" and finds all $ and splits it to an array called "German" What I want it to now do is feed the "English" entries into textboxes on the left, and "German" onto textboxes on the right so I can then match them out and make a sort of memory game out of it. Unfortunately, I don't know how I would loop an array through multiple textboxes. Conveniently, the textboxes on the left have even numbers, and the ones on the right have odd. Is there a way to possibly find all evenly numbered textboxes and loop "English" array entries into them, and the same for "German"? I've realised this has now gotten a little convoluted, but hopefully somebody understands. I can screenshot the form for better explanation, and copy my existing source code if anybody wants it.

I have 6 pictureboxes on my form and the idea is to add a value to the picbox.top property that moves the boxes down at a certain time and speed that i have set in my timer control. The problem i have is i am trying to set properties for all the pictureboxes at the same time by using arrays.

I have a very simple 2D array, it holds a list of song titles, their genre, and their runtime. frmMain loads the array from a text file and allows me to manipulate it and boil it down to a desired (implicitly sized) playlist. i want to THEN pass that playlist array to a second form, frmPlaylist The problem i'm running into....When frmPLaylist calls the Property from frmMain I receive an error that VB cannot convert the string value to a two dimensional array. Simplified...frmPlaylist is all locked and ready to receive a 2D array, but frmMain seems to only be sending a single string variable. on frmMain

This date may be nothing, but the datepicker always displays a date, understandable I suppose.There a plenty of occasions when I want a date to be null, and to display that status, how is this commonly handled in the user interface? I don't want to give up the nice functionality of the datapicker, but I need to somehow indicate that no date has yet been set.
View 3 RepliesI have a .net 4 form application. On a button click event, I want to open a form that has a GIF image in a webbrowser control, that says please wait. Then it opens a second form that has a datagridview that is being populated from a SQL query. Then I just hide the wait form. The reason I have resorted to this method is that sometimes it takes a while to display the results from with datagridview depending on what the user selected previously. The issue that I am having is the wait form displays but the GIF does not show up. If I make the application wait by using the following code the GIF show up like it supposed to until the timer runs out. At that point the image stops moving but is still present.

My original intent was to use the show method to display the results form and then hide the previous form, but sometimes the previous form would close before I could display the results form.
I am having a problem with objects that have other objects as properties on a property grid. Now when I display the object clsPropsFrame on the property grid, everything shows up as expected, except when I try to edit the x, y, or z of location which is of type clsPropsVec3, it ignores the change. What's strange is that when I type the vector in as a string (like "0, 16, 0"), it changes.

I noticed that when I changed a component of clsPropsVec3, the property change in clsPropsFrame does not get executed. I tried making it fire of an event when a component is changed in clsPropsVec3, with the following additional

But for some reason it ever fires off the ValueChanged event. So how can I make the sub properties of clsPropsVec3 work?
I want it so every time I click an ITEM in the Listbox it displays ALL the data into the textbox. I know there's an easy way using table adapters and binding the listbox, but I'd prefer to do it this way for my project.
