Is there a way to only load this if it is present? Only Vista/7 has this DLL generally, and if a program references it in XP there is an error.
I am a former IT student and have not used VB in a little while but feel it can come in handy to help me complete some tasks at work.I am trying to write a small program which will open a url + a number for each number entered into the textbox. As an example lets say the website is "www.google.com/id=" and I enter into a textbox 3 values such as "134,325,2112", www.google.com/id=134, www.google.com/id=325 and www.google.com/id=2112 would all open at once.
The purpose of this is at work, we have an employee database and would like to load multiple employees at once (upto 6 at a time) to compare profiles. The issue with doing this manually is we have to fill out the search criteria for each, instead, I would like to load a link with parameters in it already filled out + the employee number we are searching for each number entered into a textbox on a VB form.
how should I DLLImport thing in VB.NET?Example would be:

View 5 RepliesI have an unmanaged C++ dll that I am using in my program. I have successfully used several functions using DllImport. I have run into a problem with one function that takes a structure as input. I originally tried building a structure to pass to the function, but this was unsucessful. So i created a class to define the needed structure. When I pass this, I get no error message, but also no data is passed back to this variable. I have a C++ example of how to use this function, but I don't know how this translates to VB 2005. Here is how they call it in C++ .

Also, I use both VS2005 and 2008 at my job, mainly VB, although I haven't got any problem using C# either.
I notice in the MSDN documentation that there are multiple ways to declare a reference to a function in an external DLL from within a VB.NET program. The confusing thing is that MSDN claims that you can only use the DllImportAttribute class with Shared Function prototypes "in rare cases", but I couldn't find the explanation for this statement, while you can simply use the Declare keyword instead.

I'm making a method that, when passed a component, will recolor it and all components contained within it. Below is the code I have so far, but it is not recoloring all components, instead only a mere few. My main problem is buttons staying in their "3D" styles and not becoming "flat".

The component passed is comp, and the getColor method looks into a database and returns a color corresponding to the part parameter passed to the method. This works for all low-level components and all simple components like labels.As you can see, this is not my preferred outcome. Does anyone know how to recolor spinners, buttons, and menu bars? Again, I need the button to end up being flat.

I have a window application develpoed in vs 2008, framework 3.5, in which i have put a button.. Now where i click that button the other text boxes are filled up with the data from database thru web service.. what i want is while all text boxes are being filled i want to show an animated loading gif image till data loading is completed in all the text boxes.. i have tried to use image picture box but while data is loading gif image is displyes but in static mode.. cant see animation... i think this is because data loading and animation both are done thru one UI thread..

I am creating a project in VB.NET in which one of the reports require that the name of employees should be displayed as column names and whatever work they have done for a stated period should appear in rows below that particular column.Now as it is clear, the columns will have to be added at runtime. Am using an ODBC Data source to populate the grid. Also since a loop will have to be done to find out the work done by employees individually, so the number of rows under one column might be less or more than the rows in the next column.Is there a way to create an empty data table and then update its contents based on columns and not add data based on addition of new rows.

View 4 RepliesI'm trying to use a loading overlay on top of a Windows form that adds a 50% opaque layer on top of a windows form with a loading GIF, while it does what it needs to do in a background thread. The overlay is a windows form that I'm drawing in the onPaint event.
The loading overlay works fine on multiple different form loads, but fails to work properly when summoned to ensure patience during a 30 second upload process (That Prints a Word Document to PDF, then uploads that PDF to a SQL Server). This upload collects some data from the form, puts it into an Object, then operates entirely on a background thread. The loading overlay will appear, show the first frame loading GIF, then just freeze. The onPaint is getting fired and the image frame is being updated, but it isn't visible

My plan is to have the plugin consist of two files:a dll file, and a xml file describing the dll so the program knows what to do with the dll. However, I have NO idea where to start.I've referenced dlls and used them in my program before, but that was BEFORE compileing the program. Could someone please point me in the right direction? On Form Load Combobox 1 loads all the data from table 1 with no output in DGV (Works well) (5 records Perfect)
When I select a record from Combobox 1 it loads relation data from table 2 into Combobox 2 and also displays same in DGV (Works well) eg if I select record 3 in combobox 1 it loads records 5 and 6 into combobox 2 and DGV (2 Records. Perfect)Now comes the Problem When I select a record from Combobox 2 it is supposed to load the relation data from table 3 into ComboBox 3 and display same in DGV eg Combobox 2 has records 5 and 6. I have a CSV file which I append using the LoadActivityLog sub and then I pass this CSV to a datatable and populate a DataGridView in my form using the WriteAcitivityLog sub. Everythign works fine. However the datatable passes the information into the datagridview in such a way that it populates the column header rows with data as well. I want to put custom column header fields into the datagridview. However i cannot figure out how to do this.
