Mar 28, 2011I have VB.NET application in which one of the form has IE control in it, the application starts initially with memory size consumed around 9 MBs, but when IE form is launched, the memory consumed rises to 27 MB, and when that form is closed, the memory reduces merely by 3-4 MBs, so why memory allocated to IEFrame is not de-allocated automatically?

I also tried getting the windowhandle from a separately created Process object (which I've learned will not work).If I have a reference to their assembly added to my project so I can reference an instance of "TheirProduct.FormMain", what, if it's possible, is the best way to go about capturing events from that form? What I need to do is to be able to capture a couple events, and perform a few Button.PerformClick() against the form.

Oct 13, 2009I build a class library (dll) with a form in it. Now i start the dll : Dim myDLL As New ClassLibrary1.MyFirstDLL(). The problem is that this dll starts but not as a separate proces i also dont see it in the taskmanager. what i see is that when i start the dll from my program, my program start using more cpu/memory. The whole idea behind a dll is that it dont consume memory of the process that calls it. So how can i start the dll as a new separate proces but still be able to send variables to this dll. (i also created a whole new proces but then i can not send variables to it)

May 16, 2011This is a big idea and I'm unsure of how easy or difficult this really is. I do not know how I would get this even started. What I am trying to accomplish is "docking" so to speak, a sub form into the original. Basically, there are 2 forms open, but one is like a helper so to speak. This concept is not new as many programs use it. An example is a program widely used call Teamviewer. If you use Teamviewer, open the "Partner List" Pane at the bottom to see exactly what I am talking about. Basically, it opens a new form that is next to it.

Display A Modal Msgbox When Called From A Separate Thread Process?
May 14, 2010I'm using VB.net 2005, .net framework 2.0
I'm currently having a form that has a button starting a long process, with feedback into another windows textbox (call frmProcessLog).
I'm using a Background worker to laucnh the process, upgrade the status of the process and display feedback on the frmProcessLog textbox, and to know when the thread process ended up, (from the cancel button, from an error or normal termination).
the main thread process has some msgbox in it, asking questions to the operator (yes/no/cancel).
I've added the msgboxstyle.systemmodal to the msgbox call which works "ok" excpet if the operator decide to ignore the showing message box and click the cancel button on the frmProcessLog form, which is still clickable even though I supplied "systemModal" to the msgbox. this makes the msgbox hidden behind the frmProcesslog form and the process can still continue.
If I close my frmProcessLog form, I will see the previously msgbox behind it and If I end up click one of the button it will end up at an application error because the thread that called it is not existing anymore.
So I would like that the msgbox to be launched from the thread making it as if it was launched from my frmProcessLog window in a modal way.
VS 2008 Form And Controls Resize Using Anchor/Dock
Mar 7, 2010From this forum I saw some discussions about form/controls resizing issue with different resolution screen setting. Most suggestions are using Anchor/Dock. My application's form has 10 group boxes and some buttons. In each group box there are 5 Text boxes and other more controls. I tried anchor and dock but couldn't make it work. My questions are -
1, How to re-size form and all individual controls as well?
2, If anchor/Dock are suggested, do i have to use both of them or just one? it seems to me there is no big difference between them.

Feb 12, 2011we all know how to dock or anchor controls so that they resize themselves accordingly when a form is resized. It works fine till we have rows of controls on left and right size of the form. But what if have three columns (Columns as in visual sense. I'm not talking about any column control containing other controls) of controls? For example a form having a bunch of controls in the left side, a bunch in the middle and a bunch in the right. There may be a few more bunches in the middle. Now while resizing the form, I want the controls to resize accordingly as well as change their positions to make space for the previous bunch of controls that are resizing.I mean, while the user increases the form size horizontally, the controls of the second bunch should resize and at the same time they should move right because the controls of the first bunch are increasing horizontally too. When the user decreases the form size horizontally the same thing should occur in the reverse order.I can manage it somehow using nested splitcontainers but that's too cumbersome. I would like to know if there's some better way to achieve it, like setting some property etc.?

Feb 23, 2012I created a telephone number form where the user enters the telephone number in a text box as (nnn) nnn-nnnn. The first 3 digits in parenthesis are the ISD code, the next three are the area code and the last four are the local number. I need to separate out these three fields of the phone number and display in three separate text boxes labeled appropriately. Now, suppose the user enters the phone number in a text box as a continuous string of 10 digits, where the first three represent the ISD code, the next three represent the area code and the last four represent the local number. Sep 17, 2010I have a TabControl object on my form with many tabs created in code (TabPages) and my problem is that the same objects that are in the initial TabPage needs to be in the other TabPages created in code, I have this done in code when the user clicks the 'New Tab' menu option, however the same code is used for any new tabs created. The problem created here is that I have an event against one of the objects that appear in the other TabPages, but because the same code is used to create any new tab pages, the event will only work on the newest tab page, if that makes sense? By the way these objects that appear on the other TabPages are properties at the top so events can be handled against them in the respective subroutine.

Apr 30, 2010I'll get straight to my problem - I'm currently coding in Visual Studio.I have a table (countries) with the columns ID | Name. The table is filled with around 28 records.I also have a form with 4 combo boxes (set up as 1,2,3 & 4) that I want the user to select. These combo boxes will display the names from the table countries. I then want to use the selected names in the combo boxes to Insert into their corresponding ID into another table. For example England would have the ID 1, USA the ID 2 etc.So, is it possible to have separate combo boxes that will give separate ID values but using the same table? At the moment I can't seem to find a solution.Eventually the form will have more than 4 combo boxes so I don't want to use separate bindingsources for each combo box.

Feb 24, 2009In a project I'm working on, I have 3 separate mazes, a Splash Screen, and a Module for my global variable(gWin, to detect wins on the mazes). When you finish a maze, I'd like to get it so that it does not allow you to go back and redo a maze, to prevent cheating as I want a final screen to appear when they complete all 3 of the mazes. May 9, 2010I've looked at the on line doc over and over, and I can't seem to figure out why this won't work. This code runs the thread, and the thread seems to execute the code in the 'threadsafe' sub, however neither the progress bar is updated or the button click performed.
