I have VB.NET application in which one of the form has IE control in it, the application starts initially with memory size consumed around 9 MBs, but when IE form is launched, the memory consumed rises to 27 MB, and when that form is closed, the memory reduces merely by 3-4 MBs, so why memory allocated to IEFrame is not de-allocated automatically?

View 2 RepliesI'm trying to automate a product that provides no such automation capability.I've take a cursory look at loading the app in a separate AppDomain, and also, through reflection, executing the Program.Main() to get the app running. I also tried getting the windowhandle from a separately created Process object (which I've learned will not work).If I have a reference to their assembly added to my project so I can reference an instance of "TheirProduct.FormMain", what, if it's possible, is the best way to go about capturing events from that form? What I need to do is to be able to capture a couple events, and perform a few Button.PerformClick() against the form.

I looked into the standardinput and standardoutput but it looks like that is only intended for console apps. Any suggestions on methods to do that? I need something that is bullet proof and instant. I dont want to write logs out to a file and use filesystemwatcher to monitor for changes.

I put p into the watch window and it shows a a system.diagnostics.process in the watch after line2, but after line 4 it return to NOTHING. The process launches, but I can not monitor it any longer with lines 6 & 7. Is this a 'limitation' of Visual Studio 2010 or am I making an operator error? The MS Help does not show process available in the 2010 version (it is in Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio 2008).

View 2 RepliesI am building an internal web page which retrieves binary data from a SQL database, converts the binary to an image file, then opens the file on the clients PC.In debug mode, this works fine, because the program downloads the file successfully into a temporary directory, converts it to the image then uses System.Diagnostics.Process.Start() to launch the image file in the associated image viewing program.However, as soon as I upload it to the server, two undesired things happen:
a. The file gets saved on the servers temporary directory, instead of the client temporary directory (I kind of expected this to happen, so this wasnt much of a suprise)
b. System.Diagnostics.Process.Start() does not launch the file successfully. Nothing actually happens when it gets to this part of code, however I suspect that it is trying to launch the process on the server end, instead of the client end.
how I can get System.Diagnostics.Process.Start() to launch on the client end OR how I could get the image to just appear in the clients web browser instead?

I build a class library (dll) with a form in it. Now i start the dll : Dim myDLL As New ClassLibrary1.MyFirstDLL(). The problem is that this dll starts but not as a separate proces i also dont see it in the taskmanager. what i see is that when i start the dll from my program, my program start using more cpu/memory. The whole idea behind a dll is that it dont consume memory of the process that calls it. So how can i start the dll as a new separate proces but still be able to send variables to this dll. (i also created a whole new proces but then i can not send variables to it)

I'm currently having a form that has a button starting a long process, with feedback into another windows textbox (call frmProcessLog).
I'm using a Background worker to laucnh the process, upgrade the status of the process and display feedback on the frmProcessLog textbox, and to know when the thread process ended up, (from the cancel button, from an error or normal termination).
the main thread process has some msgbox in it, asking questions to the operator (yes/no/cancel).
I've added the msgboxstyle.systemmodal to the msgbox call which works "ok" excpet if the operator decide to ignore the showing message box and click the cancel button on the frmProcessLog form, which is still clickable even though I supplied "systemModal" to the msgbox. this makes the msgbox hidden behind the frmProcesslog form and the process can still continue.
If I close my frmProcessLog form, I will see the previously msgbox behind it and If I end up click one of the button it will end up at an application error because the thread that called it is not existing anymore.
So I would like that the msgbox to be launched from the thread making it as if it was launched from my frmProcessLog window in a modal way.
I'm using Process.Start method to launch another application from my application. Until today, there was no problem. But I have tested my application in a different OS, Windows XP (SP3), and my application didn't work right on that. I'm also using arguments to run that application. I guess for some reason my application couldn't send arguments to other application correctly under Windows XP. Maybe it is related to my code. But you should know, it works great on Windows 7.

I want my vb.net dll to get the data sent from c++ project(exe).Can any body help on in what form this void pointer can be sent via pipe. The void pointer corresponds to enums or structures. I have to get this structures/enums on the vb.net dll end. I have mentioned about using pipe. I've tried putting MyBase.ShowDialog() and .Show() and .9000+ other things The only benefit I've got out of using a seperate thread to load from the databse is i can see the screen right away (as oppose to it being a transparent box until it loads) but i cannot move it around or minimize it?is there any way to make it Movable while it loads?

View 2 RepliesThis is what I'm trying to accomplish: I have a Point of Sale application that integrates with a credit card processesor. I wan't to remove any user interfacing logic in regards to the credit card processor in the point of sale and add it to a application that sits in the background or system tray. I want to be able to send a command to the background app to popup a form for user input.
For example: User in the Point of Sale clicks a button "Credit Card" at this point it will send a command to the background app say "ProcessCC" which will pass a transactionid and an amount , this will open a form for the user to enter in the credit card information and submit the payment to the credit card proccessor.
Reason: I need to get a padss certification and don't want to submit the point of sale to do it. Rather send the simple background app that will control any credit card processing functionality such as encryption , storing etc. I know it can be done using sockets but was hopping for an alternative solution.

I created a telephone number form where the user enters the telephone number in a text box as (nnn) nnn-nnnn. The first 3 digits in parenthesis are the ISD code, the next three are the area code and the last four are the local number. I need to separate out these three fields of the phone number and display in three separate text boxes labeled appropriately. Now, suppose the user enters the phone number in a text box as a continuous string of 10 digits, where the first three represent the ISD code, the next three represent the area code and the last four represent the local number. I have a TabControl object on my form with many tabs created in code (TabPages) and my problem is that the same objects that are in the initial TabPage needs to be in the other TabPages created in code, I have this done in code when the user clicks the 'New Tab' menu option, however the same code is used for any new tabs created. The problem created here is that I have an event against one of the objects that appear in the other TabPages, but because the same code is used to create any new tab pages, the event will only work on the newest tab page, if that makes sense? By the way these objects that appear on the other TabPages are properties at the top so events can be handled against them in the respective subroutine.
