Overlay DirectX Full Screen Games .Net

Feb 21, 2010

I have a wonderful program which needs to be overlay-ed over my full screen directX game, the only problem is I can't seem to find any way of doing this with .net coding

things that don't work are, these are not overlays and will not work over a full screen directX game. I posted this so hopefully no one gives me that answer by mistake.

HTML

timer1.interval = 1
if timer1.enabled = true then
me.topmost = true
end if

the only thing I can seem to find is this example and source C# overlay maker however it's pretty old and it's for C# but maybe someone could convert it somehow to .net or something, I really need to find a way to do the overlaying tho been trying for months now...

Windows - Drawing Digits/graphics Directly To The Screen?

Oct 17, 2011

I'm putting together a small program in Visual Basic Express 2010, and part of it is to take a delayed screen shot.

I've got the main code working, I've got Visual Basic delaying taking the screen shot with System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.Sleep(5000), but what I'm looking for is a way to draw directly to the screen the number of seconds remaining.

You know how in Windows, in the Display Properties under Settings, when you click on Identify you get a huge number displayed on each monitor?

I'm trying to recreate that, with the number counting down until the screen shot is taken, giving the user plenty of notification to get their required applications in focus for the screen shot.

Is it possible to do this? Or is it something that will take a heck of a lot of coding?

Draw To 800*800 Pixel Box On Screen Efficiently?

Jul 25, 2009

I need to draw 100 lines between 100 semi-random points in a 800x800 pixel square on the screen.

I've been using the built-in drawlines & drawrecangles functions inside of .NET, but my drawing gets erased everytime the form paints.

So, I've been thinking about perhaps drawing to an in-memory bitmap, but I'm not sure if that's a good solution.

Common Code To Draw On Screen And Print WYS I WYG

Apr 12, 2010

I've inherited a project in VB6.NET 2008. There is a Panel control where graphs are drawn along with titles, axes, legends etc. What is drawn on the panel is also printed WYSIWYG (on a print command, of course) The problem I have is that the code for printing is entirely separate to the code for drawing. I want to merge the two so that common code is used. I'd like to work in the same units for both, which means setting either the pixels per inch for the Graphics object for the printing (so I can work in pixels) or doing the equivalent of the opposite so I can work in inches (printed inches, not screen inches).

VS 2010 Waiting For A Screen Re-draw To Finish Before Continuing?

Oct 16, 2011

I'm writing a simple program that takes a screenshot of tab1 of the GUI, then takes a screenshot of tab2, then tab3, etc. I've got the screenshot code down pat, but the problem with my current code is that it's taking the screenshot of each tab before the screen has a chance to fully redraw, so the resulting images are screwed up.Is there a way to get the program to wait for each tab (and all the controls in it) to be fully visible before each screenshot is taken?I'd like to avoid using a timer for this, as the screen redraw speed will vary depending on the user's computer, and the contents of each tab, etc.[code]

Screen Blanks After 1 Min Of Processing (of Excel File) / Refresh Or Freeze Screen To Avoid Blank Screen?

Jun 29, 2011

BTW this issue occurs in any MS office program when the VB.Net (or even VBA) is processing information.Example: In Excel, a worksheet is displayed on the screen. I start either, a VB.Net or VBA procedure and within 30 seconds the Excel worksheet (previously displayed) blanks out. In both VB.Net and VBA,ScreenUpdating = False. My expectation is that the previously displayed screen would stay static as if I left my desk to get a cup of coffee; came back and the same ole Excel worksheet was still there?Of course, setting VBA Screen Updating = False accomplishes two goals: 1) speeds up processing and 2) saves the user from seeing unnecessary "garbage-processing" steps. Why does VBA or VB.Net ScreenUpdating = False not freeze the screen at the time of its invoking?

Dll For Card Games?

Feb 13, 2012

I have been looking for like 3 hours trying to find a dll or anything to make a simple cards game, but everything I find is oriented to C.

In this page A FreeCell game using Cards.dll - CodeProject they talk about just what I want, but I cannot make it work in Visual Studio 2008 using Visual Basic.net, I dont know if that has anything to do with the Vista OS I am using.

In the page I mention the author says "There are many good articles on the net on how to use the Cards dynamic link library" and I am sure the good articles are there, but my good luck has make me looping around the same nonsense results so I end up with nothing after 3 hours search.

The game I want to make is just something for a project we must do in class, how to start making a cards game fast and simple. If someone knows about a cards dll that works fine with vbnet, that someone would be my new hero.

.net Launcher App To Launch Games?

Jan 10, 2010

the thing is that i am creating a little launcher shell that will start on a lan-party computer full with games.all the things i am doing with it is for my own use only and will not be used for harmfull stuff. in the other topic i got the intention that they thought i was a cracker of hacker or something.im am just creating a launcher app that launches my games without the use of explorer.exe to be loaded with windows.i have done several things to try to load a game when i press a button but they always crash. when i start the games normally there is no problem.first i thought it needed the use of explorer.exe but when i tested my app with explorer.exe running i got the same result. so i think its my app that is causing the problem.

i have used this:

Process.Start("C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe")

and this:

Dim startInfo As System.Diagnostics.ProcessStartInfo
Dim pStart As New System.Diagnostics.Process
startInfo = New System.Diagnostics.ProcessStartInfo("C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Related Designs\ANNO 1404\Anno4.exe")

[code].....

as for the people who replied in the other topic. the register files you have seen in my code was for activating the GameShell.exe to run as shell instead of the explorer.exe for the current user and for all users and to restore it to explorer.exe.

Keys For Multiplayer Games

Jul 13, 2009

Can the keyboard not handle too many keys at once?

Create Video Games In Program?

Jan 17, 2012

How to Create Video Games in VB.Net

I realize that this is a very popular subject, especially amongst budding developers. The drive to create games may be the reason you started working with Visual Basic in the first place. After stepping through a few samples and getting the hang of working with user controls on a form, it may be very tempting to start to throw some PictureBoxes and a Timer on a Form and start to implement some game logic. Seems easy enough, right?

To some extent, this is a true statement. You could start to do this and it would be easy enough at first. But when you begin to try to calculate collision and animate or rotate your sprites, you may start to run into some difficulty. And attempts to circumvent the problems often lead to even worse issues. This can cause an endless spiral of misery which could leave you thinking VB just isnt meant to make games!

The initial problem that most people face is the desire to use a PictureBox (or any other control) as the logical Sprite container for the elements in the game. It makes sense since the control appears to provide a lot of the required functionality already and its easy to extend it with more properties as needed.

The issue though is that Windows Forms Controls are designed to be drawn statically that is, they arent meant to move around in real-time. You can of course move them at run-time, but this is normally an on-demand operation (something which occurs because the user just took an action like clicking a button or menu item). Attempting to move controls in real-time puts a heavy strain on your application and can cause poor performance quickly.[code]....

How To Detect Installed Games On A System

Nov 26, 2009

I am writing a application where i need to know which games are installed on a system.I have 3 ways by which i think i can detect the games

1: Scan specific parts of registry and look for key names that match with a List of Publishers. The list is manually maintained.

2: Scan the hard disk for and do same as in step 1

3: run the program in background and check for programs in memory that use a large portion of memory(which games always do) and if they use Direct X ( Which all games do except for some) then its a game.

Now i have been thinking about it and first and second method seems to be in need of a updated database ie list of publishers to make out if a particular program is game.

Read A Games Log File As It Is Running?

Sep 9, 2011

I'm trying to read a log file for a game so I can extract certant info from it and track my stats as the game is running, but I keep getting access denied error for the log file. I would also like to have the log read only after it has been changed but the event handler never fires. I'm assuming it has to do with the access error. Can someone give me an example of how to watch a text file that's in use by another program and read it after it changes. The code I have works if I open the file in notpad, change it then save it but not when the game is running. I did it once before for the same game but lost my code and there are other programs that parse the log file so I know it can be done.

Simulating Multiple Games In Background

Sep 6, 2011

I'm trying my hand at a little football simulator, along the same lines as Football Manager (except for Australian football but that's not really the point). Right now I have a code that will simulate a match in a background worker thread and then output all of the statistics and such to a text file. It's all good for simulating one game at a time but I want to do multiple games simultaneously!

This is because, like in Football Manager, I want to have multiple leagues setup so there will be lots of games that need simulating and to do them one at a time would be pretty slow. To sim the games I have a "Match Engine" module which has a metric load of variables and different procedures in it for kicking and marking the ball etc. I'm not sure how I could somehow duplicate all of these variables and procedures at runtime and run them simultaneously in different threads.
