Drawing In Foreground Of A Container Control?

Aug 13, 2009

Is there a way to draw in the foreground of a container control. Such as a Panel, or PictureBox.

I need to be able to draw across multiple controls all within the same container.

Lets say, that you have a Panel containing Five Buttons. Is there a way to draw say a line across all five buttons, that will show as a continuous line, using only the Graphics object of the container?

I can only get the line drawn in the background such that the controls are drawn over the line and it appears broken. In the actual usage there are 25 controls and I would rather not have to loop through each contorl and drawn the line if needed, every time the control is invalidated.

MDI Container & Toolstrip - Giving Child Forms Foreground

Sep 3, 2010

So currently i have been working on a application that is a MDI parent, with child forms. I use a un docked toolstrip as a toolbox since i like the small icons and mouse hover, but one issue that bugs me is that when a child form is open in the parent form it's "under" the toolstrip. For example moving childform1 pass the toolstrip menu makes the form go under rather ontop. Is there anyway to give the child forms foreground when moving?

Programmatically Change Foreground Color And Make Bold Text In Individual Cell Location On DataGridView Control?

May 5, 2010

How to programmatically change foreground color and make bold text in individual cell location on DataGridView control (Visual Basic)?

I use "dgMatrix.Rows(r).Cells(c).Value = x" to assign individual numeric values to individual cells in a DataGridView control. My question; is there a similar way to change foreground color and make bold the text in this cell, by specifying the individual row/column cell location?

For example; for cell (row 3, col 5) in the DataGridView make text in cell say red and bold or blue and bold so as to highlight and distinguish individual cell contents. As needed, I will also need to reset these properties (foreground back to automatic/black and font from bold back to regular); the reset could be done globally to the whole DataGridView as opposed to indiviaually by cell.

Asp.net - Unable To Add Text Along With <%# Container.DataItem %> In Repeater In User Control

Nov 26, 2011

I have a User Control which is dynamically placed by CodeBehind as follows:

Dim myControl As Control = CType(Page.LoadControl("~/Controls/mainMenu.ascx"), Control)
If InStr(Request.ServerVariables("url"), "/Login.aspx") <= 0 Then
mainMenu.Controls.Add(myControl)
End If

As per an example from my previous question on here.

Within this Control is a repeater which calls a database to generate values.

My Repeater mark-up is as follows

<asp:Repeater runat="server" ID="locationRepeater" OnItemDataBound="getQuestionCount">
<ItemTemplate>

[Code]....

The example above works fine, but I want to be able to prepend text to <%# Container.DataItem %> in the title attribute of that <p> to print to the browser like this is some text DATA_ITEM_OUTPUT

When I try to do that though, it prints this is some text <%# Container.DataItem %> exactly like that, ie, turning <%# Container.DataItem %> into text, NOT the value from the repeater code.

It was working fine before I made it into a dynamically inserted control, so I am thinking I might have something being generated in the wrong order, but given that it works without any prepended text

Creating A Container Control Out Of A UserControl Can't Access Controls At Runtime?

Oct 16, 2009

I have created a usercontrol that contains two rectangle shapes to create a unique button effect and a rounded-corner rectangle shape serving as a border to provide a look similar to a group box. It also contains two labels, one for use with a Text property of the control and the other to indicate the status of expansion of the control. The control is designed to collapse itself when the "button" is clicked leaving only the "button" visible. Clicking it again toggles this affect. I've dubbed it an ExpansionBar. It is also designed to be a container control so that I can add controls to it and allow these to disappear when the bottom portion collapses. The problem is that the controls contained in this usercontrol cannot be accessed during runtime. In other words, I can add a checkbox to it and it will disappear correctly when the control collapses, but I can't select the checkbox to check it... same thing with any other controls, you can see, but can't touch. I'm a novice developer, so I'm sure I'm missing something obvious.

Label Size - Drag The Label Object From The Toolbox And Drop In The Tab Control Container

Feb 4, 2007

I have been using vb6 for a while, I am following a tutorial by MS to develop a basic application and a simple task cannot be completed for whatever reasons! The tutorial asks to drag the label object from the toolbox and drop in the tab control container. Then, go to the label size property and adjust the size to some different dimansion. Basic stuff, right? It won't let me do it! After I enter the new dimensions (which by the way are not large or very small), the label size (both width and height) resets back to its original dimensions! I have the vb.net sp1 installed.

VS 2010 User Control "Test Container"?

Dec 4, 2010

I remember in VS 2005 that when I was working on making user controls, if I removed the default Form1 and ran debug, that some sort of test container popped up. The window had a drop down menu to the right with some other properties so that I could choose from it the control I wanted to test. Choosing it would show the control to the left (in the main area) so I could test it, all without placing the control(s) on a form.

However, I cant find how to use this in VS 2010. I tried deleting Form1 and leaving nothing but by custom controls, but it just causes errors.What is the name of this window, and how can I get to it in VS 2010?

I am trying to use appactivate to bring a window to the foreground however this is not working. When the program is already open on the desktop and there are other windows on top of it and I use AppActivate then it brings that window into the foreground. However if that window is minimized to the windows bar below, then the only thing appactivate does is have that program selected but it does not bring it into the foreground. I need to have any window forced to the foreground while retaining its original size.

Auto-Termination Of Foreground Threads?

Apr 25, 2010

I just wanted to know that When our Vb.net application terminates are all our foreground threads automatically terminated.I read that all our background threads (worker threads) are all automatically terminated once the application shutsdown (when we dispose it)H/owever i wanted to know about Foreground threads , I know that wehn we use

dim t as thread
t = new thread (address of blahblah)
t.isbackground = true ; //This makes it a worker thread ... which will terminate when the form is disposed
t.start()

my question is now suppose i dont set the background property and make it run as a foreground parallel thread. Will it close when the application disposes...

C# - Can The Number Of Foreground Threads Be Determined In .NET

Mar 8, 2011

I've searched a good deal on the topic and have found little results. It seems adding foreground into the criteria on any engine I've used causes tons of entry level documents on threading in .Net.

In my current project I have a foreground thread within a static class that lies dormant until it is told otherwise. It contains a queue of items that must be processed and the items application cannot close without all items being processed. Right now I have a method that tells the thread that it should stop accepting new items and close when it is finished processing everything, but not everyone on the team remembers to call the method. Having the GUI close while the process still runs in the background is quite a bug in my opinion. If I can add a periodic check to see if the queued thread is the last foreground thread, then I can call the method and not have to worry about others that use the class.
