DropdownList At Properties Level Of ComboBox - Search Field Types
Oct 28, 2009
I have a combo box on my application (working with VB.net) called CmbAttendantstatus. I have sent the dropdownstyle = dropdownlist at the Properties level of the combobox.
There are 200 field types e.g;
Current Attendant
Ever Attendant
Never Attendant etc
The issue is I can only select one from the list, fine, but I want to be able to type the first letter on the combobox and it takes me to the nearest field type rather than looking through the entire drop list. For example I want Never Attendant, I just need to type N and the drop list takes me to anything starting from N and if I add E for example any field starting with NE shows up for selection. Presently, when the dropdownlist is selected you are not allowed to type anything...

I'm trying to get the model dropdown be affected by + selCurrentManuf.Text. I get this error:
'selCurrentManuf' is not declared. It may be inaccessible due to its protection level.
I can access the drop down in another part of the page like this..
Dim sc1_currentmanuf As String = CType(e.Item.FindControl("selCurrentManuf"), DropDownList).Text
However in the function I am trying to use selCurrentManuf does not have access to e.

I'm having trouble getting a numeric format out of a textbox.I can do this in the textbox validating event, but I need commas to be entered into the textbox as the user actually types the data, not after they leave the textbox.. the reason is that they are typing really large numbers and can easily lose track of 0's or the total number if there are no comma seperators.I tried to do this through the keydown event in the textbox, but that doesnt work the comma gets inserted but the cursor goes into the begining of the string so anything new i type goes ahead of the old stuff.is there really no formatting on the properties level of a textbox??? how can there be no datamask?

I have a search function in my app which is a groupbox with a textbox that contains the search keyword and a couple of radiobuttons. Do I have to create a keydown event for every single radiobutton and textbox? Or is there a better way? I tried making a keydown event for the groupbox but that didn't work.
If your interested, this is my
Private Sub Search()
Dim textBoxContents As String = txtBoxKeyword.Text
Dim keyword As String = Nothing

Let's say I have 2 interfaces defined like so:
public interface ISkuItem
{
public string SKU { get; set; }
}
[Code]....
VB.NET explicitly requires you to add Implements IInterfaceName.PropertyName after each property that gets implemented whereas C# simply uses regions to indicate which properties and methods belong to the interface.
Interestingly in VB.NET, on the SKU property, I can specify either Implements ISkuItem.SKU or Implements ICartItem.SKU. Although the template built by VS defaults to ISkuItem, I can also specify ICartItem if I want. Oddly, because C# only uses regions to block out inherited properties, it seems that I can't explicitly specify the implementing interface of SKU in C# like I can in VB.NET.
My question is: Is there any importance behind being able to specify one interface or another to implement properites in VB.NET, and if so, is there a way to mimic this functionality in C#? Furthermore, what is the effect of specifying one interface over another when implementing properites?

I can create a Custom UserControl with simple properties (Integer, String, etc) and have those properties show up in the Property Panel. I can also create a Custom UserControl with properties like Size, Rectangle, etc and the properties will show up as an expandable item in the Property Panel (click on the '+' and the Size expands to Width & Height).
Is it possible to create properties with my own custom structure? e.g. Property 'Message' expands to Text, ForeColor, BackColor, Blink etc. I have tried creating a property that references a simple class or structure with containing the properties representing my custom structure but in the Property Panel the property is greyed out and cannot be expanded or modified.

I have a question about event handling. Is it possible to detect field level data change in vb.net? i don't want my codes to be dependent on the the bound control's event to detect the change on the field value. I'm thinking there must be a better way (coming from a Delphi background). For example: a change on the Qty field will automatically trigger the event to compute the invoice detail Amount - (pseudo-case sample: Amount = Qty * UnitPrice).
In Delphi, every field is treated as an object with its own properties and events. So it's very easy to associate an event with it.
Example:
procedure TfrmInvoice.qryInvDetQtyChange(Sender: TField);
begin
inherited;
qryInvDetAmount.value := qryInvDetQty.AsInteger * qryInvDetUnitPrice.AsCurrency;
end;
How can I achieve the same using vb.net?

Table1: Id (Numeric) | Name (Character) | Salary (Numeric)
Table2: Id (Numeric) | Name (Character) | Salary (Float)
With these two tables program should display message like (types do not match in field SALARY [F <> N]) where F is float and N is numeric.

I have written a function before to delete and update records, but never anything to return values back to my call of the function. Here is my code, and I will try to explain what I'm trying to acheive.
If Not Att1 = "" Then
Attribute1.Text = Att1
Attribute1.Visible = True
ComboBox1.Visible = True
[code]....
That codes goes on up to att20. It works just fine, but it is forever long, and I would like to clean it up.I want to do something like:
Or, should I pass the combobox number also, so that the code can fill the appropriate combobox? Like.comboboxfill(Att1,Combobox1) how to write the function and how to pass back the information or just how to make it work in general?

i have an app that has many suggest append comboboxes in the style of just straight dropdown.
I also clear the text in all of these draopdowns via resettext() in a loop when my user clicks a 'New' button
is there any way to either A:
make the combobox read only (without selecting dropdownlist)
or B:
allow suggest append to fire on all keystrokes instead of only when it sees a match in the combobox....
example: combobox1 contains the following items:
- apples
- oranges
- bananas
as of right now, if my user types in "pears" it won't see any 'P' and won't suggest anything else or even drop down the combobox and allow "Pears" to be entered and because my app does processing only on the items in the list, "pears" then throws an exception....I'm trying to force them to choose only the items in the list and not be allowed to enter anything else while still enjoying the clean look of a resettext() on a combobox

I'm currently attempting to use a .NET WebBrowser to display help information (stored locally in html files) for an application I'm writing, however I'm experiencing two problems, both related to hyperlinks.
Firstly, I have a search function which returns the correct URL in the format file:\C:... I can copy and paste it into a browser, and it will navigate there. Yet clicking on the link within the control itself does nothing at all.
Secondly, the HTML files all contain relative paths to other HTML files. These of course do not work as I just end up with file:\C:help.html which gives me a 'webpage is unavailable.' But I can't think of a way to get it to work without parsing the HTML file and concatenating the path to the directory on to the front of the link.
Just to clarify, in the first problem I am dynamically building a search result page as the user types. The HTML contains several results similar to this (yes, it's unfinished, I'm just showing you the link part): [code] Now, when I click on that link in the control nothing happens, it doesn't give me a 'webpage is unavailable' or take me to the actual page. Saving the HTML, however, and opening it with Chrome, IE and Firefox works fine.In the second problem, I have a different help file for different sections, each containing relative links to several others. VB picks these up as direct paths, and attempts to go there from root, i.e file:\C:file.html. The only solution I can think of is to parse the file and use WebBrowser.Navigate(Path.Combine(pathToDirectory, nameOfHelpFile.html), which seems a lot more inefficient than it should be.

I have a checkbox in my application,when the checkbox is checked then i want to fetch the data from the database and add it to the dropdownlist of the combobox.Again when the checkbox is unchecked then i want to ramove all the data from the dropdownlist of the combobox.
I did this
Private Sub CheckBox1_CheckedChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles CheckBox1.CheckedChanged
If CheckBox1.Checked = True Then
con = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.Oledb.4.0;Data Source=Etech.mdb")
[CODE]...
When the checkbox is checked then the data is added from the database to the dropdownlist of the combobox but when i uncheck it then the data is not removed from the dropdownlist of the combobox. In the above code i think i need to add an else condition to remove the data from the dropdownlist of the combobox and make it empty when the checkbox is unchecked.......but i cant give the proper else condition in the above code.

have build some code which goes through the datasource finding records on what a user types, basically if the user types 'P' in the combobox it finds all records from FieldName with 'P' and if you type 'Portugal' it finds all records from the FieldName with 'Portugal, it all narrows down the search list say if there are to entries which match 'Portugal' the combox would only have to items in. The problem i am have is that when i bound the datasource back to the combobox every letter you type stays at Postion 0 of the combobox and doesn't move to the end of the letter as normally the combo works, does any one now how to get arround this problem.
At the moment i call my combobox search code from the keypress event of the combobox.This code works fine with recordsets in msaccess combobox but i cannot get it to work with the datasource of the combobox in vb.net Heres the code from the combobox keypress event:
Private Sub ComboBox1_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles ComboSearch.KeyPress
Dim keyascii As Integer = AscW(e.KeyChar)
PhoneBookComboSearch(keyascii)
End Sub
Below is the code at the end of my keypress event send the datasource back to the combobox.
Dim adapter As New SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter(strSQL, conn)
Dim dt As New DataTable("MyTable")
Dim ds As New DataSet
[code]....
