Select Multiple Values In DropdownList In Asp.net With VB?

Jan 20, 2012

I am creating a page in which I need to show a drop down List. From this drop down List a user can select multiple values. I know I could use a check box list like:

<asp:CheckBoxList ID="CheckBoxList1" runat="server" style="margin-right: 158px">
<asp:ListItem>Value 1</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem>Value 2</asp:ListItem>

[code]....

but if there are more than 50 or so values then that will consume a lot of space on the page and will look odd. So kindly tell me how can I select multiple values from drop down list or if there any alternatives so that I can select multiple values and show many records on a minimum space but not a grid?

Asp.net - HTML.DropDownList Values From Multiple Sources?

Jul 27, 2010

In ASP.NET MVC, is it possible to fill the list of values of a Html.DropDownList from multiple data sources along with multiple manually entered values?Basically, I envision it being formated like the below using something along the lines of OPTGROUP:

**Group 1**
Manual Item 1
Manual Item 2
**Group 2**

[code]....

I've thought about using a view on the DB and getting the data from that, however, I've not really the faintest how to lay it out like above using helpers and to pass the data to it from multiple sources.

Inserting New Field Into Database - Getting Error?

Private Sub btnSubmit_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSubmit.Click
Dim recordsadded As Integer
Dim strSQLString1, strSQLString2, strSQLString As String

Compare Values In Datagridview With Values In Database Before Inserting Into Database

Dec 15, 2010

I am building VB.NET application that takes data from text files that are exported from a legacy DOS program. These are written to a datatable and displayed in a datagridview. Right now my code simply loops through the datagridview and inserts the data into the database (SQL Server). There is a requirement now that the client number must be checked before the insert to see if it exists in the database. If it does, then the value of one field (tax rate) is checked against the value of the field in the datagridview. If there is a difference, then the rate is to be updated in the database and the data that was in the database is to be written to a history table for audit purposes. If the client number is not there, then we are to do the insert (which is already written). I want to know what is the most elegant and efficient solution for this problem.

I need to compare what is in the database table with what is in the datagridview, update the history table for records that exist, and then insert new records.

Inserting Word 2007 Document Into A Database Field

May 8, 2009

VS2005 (VB) SQLServer 2005

I want to insert (store) a Word 2007 document into an SQL database field. I've previously done this with PDF files into an 'image' datatype field without problems. I can add the original document and retrieve it for viewing using Filestream as follows:

To add the file (where 'strPdfFile' is the file and 'myImageBuffer' is added to the field)
Dim myStream As FileStream = New FileStream(strPdfFile, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read)

[Code].....

This also works with a Word .doc file (substituting the file extension). With a .docx file however, when taking the ByteArray back out of the database and re-creating the document, there is a problem opening it with Word 2007. An error message says the file is corrupt but offers to recover the file, which it does successfully.

I know docx is OpenXML but in this case I'm not interested in the data structure (as such), I just want to store it. I guess I should be using a different method (Serialization?) but not sure which. I would also like to keep the field DataType (image) if I can.

Asp.net - Inserting Records From Multiple Computers In The Same Database At The Same Time In SQL Server 2005?

Nov 12, 2010

I have a web portal designed in ASP.NET in which we ask customers to enter the data. On the click of submit button all i have done is, just read the data and called a stored procedure which inserts that into a table. There seems to be a problem in SQL Server 2005 while inserting the data from multiple computers at the same time. We have tested in our lab with three computers, result is that we get the data inserted successfully in only one machine and on the other two machines we get error on page. I have used transactions in the stored procedure and also tried setting the isolation levels to READ_UNCOMMITTED, SERIALIZABLE and SNAPSHOT. Nothing seems to work properly.

Merging Fields From Multiple Tables In Database Into One Field In A New Table?

May 11, 2011

I'm looking for a way to combine a field from multiple tables into a single field in a new table. Because the data populating the tables is coming from an outside source, I would prefer not to change the data in the original files. I have a separate table for each year because this is the way the data is provided. The field layout is not consistent from year to year, but each year there is a field that we'll call "score." I'd like to pull the field "score" from each year's table and have it populate a "score" column in a new table along with the year of the data so that all the years' scores are in the same place. Is there a way to do this using Visual Basic + Access?

[2008] Multiple Results - Data Entries In My Database That Have A Common Field

Jan 31, 2009

I have data entries in my database that have a common field. For example:

account_id type user_id

1 new 1
2 old 3
3 new 1
4 old 1

I am using a query like this(mysql): SELECT account_id, type, user_id FROM table WHERE user_id = 1

This is just all theoretical. The problem that I am having with this is it is only returning the first result in this case account_id 1. How can I get it to find all the results with the user_id 1 because in the way I am thinking that it is failing is that it is finding only the first result and then ending?

DropdownList At Properties Level Of ComboBox - Search Field Types

Oct 28, 2009

I have a combo box on my application (working with VB.net) called CmbAttendantstatus. I have sent the dropdownstyle = dropdownlist at the Properties level of the combobox.

There are 200 field types e.g;
Current Attendant
Ever Attendant
Never Attendant etc

The issue is I can only select one from the list, fine, but I want to be able to type the first letter on the combobox and it takes me to the nearest field type rather than looking through the entire drop list. For example I want Never Attendant, I just need to type N and the drop list takes me to anything starting from N and if I add E for example any field starting with NE shows up for selection. Presently, when the dropdownlist is selected you are not allowed to type anything...

VB: Getting Checkboxes On Windows Form To Check If Their Values In A Database Field Is Check (True)

This is my problem.I have a field set up in MS Access to Boolean YES/NO, this field is populated when the user check a checkbox on a windows form. If the user check a checkbox, the value is written as checked in the data field (MS Access). The problem is when I search for the user information, I need the information from the Data base to populate(return) to the windows form. Inserting Empty String Field As Null In Access?

Jan 4, 2012

I have a couple of textfields in a Windows form. One of these textfields is allowed to be NULL. When I enter a value for every field, it is all inserted, no problem. When I leave the field (txtGewicht) blank, I can't seem to be able to insert NULL in Access Database.

If Double.TryParse(txtGewicht.Text, 0) Then
klant.Gewicht = Double.Parse(txtGewicht.Text)
Else

[Code]....

This is what I get:

"Cannot set column 'Gewicht' to NULL, please use DBNull instead"

So I changed 'Nothing' to DBNull.value, but it then tells me that System.DBNull cannot be converted to type Double.
